I am a professional motorcycle mechanic. I a very impressed with the way Shane show the tricks of the trade in his videos. I learned a thing or two from this video and I have rebuilt hundreds of carbs. When I worked in the Dental field, the doctors used to call these techniques of pointing out the fine details as "picking up pearls" Best how to videos I have seen.

Shane, my friend and I just removed my carb on my Harley fxr4 with 1340 evo with only 17k miles...my pride and joy! I've owned this bike for 4 yrs and not had any issues. Just of late I've had gas leaking out overflow from carb, she has new needle and we adjusted float level today via your great video. New gasket on top of bowl, new enricher cable installed also. Put her back together , turned on gas and ran bike for few minutes..no leaks. 2 hrs later I had rather steady drip out overflow as before. Shut gas off at petcock and gas leak stopped. Bike has aftermarket petcock with no voes hookup, voes hose has screw in end of it that would normally fit to stock petcock. I do have spare stock petcock that I can install after I run out more of my gas if you feel that would fix my problem. in 4 yrs of owning I've not had to shut off gas at petcock..all of a sudden this leak developed and rather frustrating. Harley mechanic at local shop recommended I buy another carb...but I don't think that is necessary. any advice you may have would be appreciated sir. the float level is set properly as per your video at 20 degree and tab bent as per your directions. Needle is not seating or I may need to install stock petcock. air screw we have set at 2.5 turns out. thanks for any help you can provide sir. Dave

Every single thing I've learned about motorcycles has been from KZbin and forums. Searching for info can be hit or miss, so it's always such a relief to come across a video of yours. You never blow steam, always focused on sharing information as efficiently as possible (a correlation there?). Thank you so much for everything you've taught me about motorcycles and beyond.

THANK YOU!!! Your video solved a problem I have been having. I'm 70 years old and doing my first carb rebuild. It is off a 06 Suzuki GZ250 and is a very similar cv carb (Mikuni). When I pulled the diaphragm apart to check the needle, I discovered an extra part laying on the table. Turned out it was the Jet Needle, which had evidently been placed in the hole inside the throat. Even the Tech. manual did not cover where it was to be installed but did say which way to install it. Looked at a parts diagram, made guess on installing it and your video confirmed that it was correct. Thanks again for covering a carb area that no other video covered.

Long story short it fixed my moped that I've been fighting for months to figure out when the float needle goes down it goes into a brass piece I was missing that brass piece that connects it to the main jet the whole time so thank you for the bottom of my heart for being a good teacher and step by step master of showing people what you need and how to do it right.

WOW SHANE, I HAVE WATCHED THIS VIDEO BEFORE THE REMOVAL AND CLEANING OF MY CARBURETOR AND I DID NOT PAY ATTENTION TO THE MAIN JET PART. THE SILVER PIECE THAT PROTRUDES INTO THE INSIDE OF THE CARB THAT YOU SWITCHED AND YOU STILL WERE ABLE TO SCREW THE MAIN JET INTO THE TUBE. YUP I MADE THAT VERY MISTAKE AND DID NOT NOTICE. AFTER COMPLETE ASSEMBLY THE CARB RAN TERRIBLE. I REWATCHED THIS VIDEO AND FINALLY REALIZED I HAD MADE THE BONE HEAD ERROR YOU WARNED ABOUT. THANKFULLY THERE WAS NOT PERMANENT DAMAGE AND I WAS ABLE TO CORRECT MY MISTAKE AND REASSEMBLE THE CARB CORRECTLY. IF I HAD NOT WATCHED THIS VIDEO I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN A WORLD OF PROBLEMS. Shane, from The Netherlands, thank you! Because my HD Dyna Super Glide 2003 only rode on the choke, I decided to completely overhaul the carburetor myself. Read a lot about it (Haynes S&R manual) and studied the construction drawing. However, without this super explanation from Shane, I would have gotten into trouble. With all Shane's tips, it all worked out fine and now the Twin Cam runs like a charm again. Thank you, greetings from Helmond - Holland (Europe).

I'm watching this excellent tutorial in Rio, Brazil. I have a 1995 ZX7 that I've brought back to life, it was almost a basket case bike when purchased. It appears that it's all down to me now to get the Keihen CV carbs fully sorted, and I'm almost there but it's a pig to start when the engine is hot (it runs great in every other aspect and starts again after a 30 mins wait when stopped on a hot engine). The information on the Keihen CV carb is JUST what I needed to help me solve this problem in this last little Carburation issue. THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS AND SHARING YOUR KNOWLEDGE.

Very informative and helpful video. Thanks. I bought a 2004 Vulcan that sat half covered up here in Texas and had not been started since 2011, so obviously needed carb and other work. Your video talked me through the carb and today the for the first time since 2011 it started and ran fine. It only has 7,000 miles on it, so was worth the effort once I cleaned the hornets nests and spiders from it.

Hi Shane very informative video I have an 02 HD sportster XLH 1200 I bought the bike used ran good for 2 mths. I had an issue with hesitation, cleaned carb. reverse of flow etc. and cleaned the pilot and main jet. Person who owned bike before me put on aftermarket full exhaust Vance&Hines they took the baffles out, I put them back in. Also they had the engine reworked at around 5,000 miles. There's about 29,000 miles on the bike now total now. The pilot get is a 42 the main jet is170. Before cleaning the carb the spark plugs got fouled out bike hard starting cleaned up the carbon deposits and checked the plugs for resistance checked out ok. Now it'll start easy cold with the choke out like it should but when I drive it for a while and get it hot it's hard starting and the plugs are clean looks like it's burning to lean. Tried adjusting A-F mixture screw. I'm positive it's out about 4 turns, spark plugs are still showing a lean burn condition. Think jets are 2 small plz help.

very informative video with excellent presentation! I am a first time Harley owner and I'm rebuilding my carb. I bought a used bike and there is just a tiny bit of fuel drips from my carb, and I mean so little that it prob could wait. However the constant cleaning that this needs is a hassle and I like my shit to be right ya know. So I bought a Keihin rebuild kit. I am a electrician and plumber by trade. I was nervous about tackling this task, but I prefer to work on my own stuff so I know what I got and of course it saves money. Money I don't have I might mention. By now you know I'm gonna do this win or lose. After watching (AND SAVING) this video I feel much much much more confident I can do this and have something to reference other than my Clymer manual. So I wanna say dude you are awesome and I for one very much appreciate what you have done right here. I'll reply to this comment later to let you know how it goes, but together I know we got this shit handled!!

Thanks Shane. New subscriber! Haven't checked them all out yet, LOL!! right now you're saving my bacon on my CV carb rebuild! Dissassyed the butterfly, thought I payed enough attention to how I took it apart, but doing it on a 16 hr day without pics (big mistake) was a mistake. I think I got it right. I've built quite a few carbs, and it's ALWAYS good to have a Sherpa to guide the way when blazing a new trail like I am on this CV. Your videos are a godsend!!! Saved me from making some mistakes I would have made even with the SM. Thanks for the link, I'll check it out ASAP, but first I need to get this bike up before the snow flies!
@crforfreedom74076 жыл бұрын
If you know where I can get a schematic of the buttfly assy, I'd appreciate it. Didn't see it in the SM. Doesn't show it disassyed. You can be sure I'll be checking in again from time to time as I finish this up and need the help. This winter, you and I will get VERY well antiquated!! ;-)

Thanks for saving me there!! I thought I knew carbs enough to rebuild this bad boy... Until that silver piece the needle mates with at idle fell out in the wash bin... you certainly called that one!...... After viewing the video I am confident I am fully armed for re-assembly. Thanks again!
@JL-ld1do4 жыл бұрын
@Rick Simpson In my experience with an in line 4 system(which was a few years ago) I had two carbs that would fluctuate vacuum at idle and it made the idle change slighlty, but it did have that same hole you are describing on acceleration. Upon disassembly and very close inspection I found a small plug inside the float bowls that was supposed to plug off a port was in fact damaged on those two carbs. I would guess you are also sucking air somewhere that you shouldn't be inside the closed system
