this video was very informative as I'm rebuilding a Honda mt 50 ad at least I know how to put this system into use now because when I bought it there were no lines connected and the seller did not tell me I needed to pre mix so probably why my top end wore out

Bruh, I set out to try and find troubleshooting tips for an oil pump not working on my old outboard and I know nothing at all about boats or their motors. Nabil had a good question below and I wanted to re-post here. KEEP IN MIND, NO VIDEO HAS ALL THE INFORMATION. THESE VIDEOS ARE MOSTLY MEANT FOR REVIEW FOR MY STUDENTS AND A GLIMPSE INTO WHAT IT WOULD BE LIKE TO TRAIN HERE. ENJOY THE FREE MATERIAL, KEEP SHARING AND COMMENTS ARE WELCOMED! Let me clarify. If you had been in our class or a student here you would have learned to use assembly lube on the motor rebuild and you also "prime" the oil pump lines when servicing or rebuilding the system. Some mechanics also like to use a premix of oil and gas for the first tank as well. I do not. If the proper assembly lube, and prime procedures are followed, there is no need. I have an entire series of videos on this channel with this information in my WITCC 2-stroke playlist.

The oil check valves (the brass banjos) are a very important component in the old school injection system in that they prevent oil flooding the engine statically past the pump to cause hydraulic lock. That can bend a rod pooching the engine instantly.

Your point agreed totally. I have bought two seazed DT125E engines because the brass outlet check valves in the oil pump were so gummed up with crud that the spring and ball could not move ,thus starving 2T oil to the engines......resulting in engine failure !! Make sure the brass fitting is removed and thoroughly cleaned when over hauling /servicing the oil pump as it can easily be overlooked.

Thanks for the REALLY great explanation, I now know what to look for on my 1975 Suzuki GT380, after start up and when warm it seems to partial seize, (triple cylinder,) I think on the centre cylinder which also causes it to stall out, then unable to kick it over I have to rock the bike in gear which releases the seize...so now I will look first at the cable situation...thanks again.

I am currently working on a Polaris Snowmobile and when adjusting the oil pump, the manual states the following, Oil Pump Adjustment - All Models “With engine shut off and throttle in its idle position, the pump lever index mark (A) must align with the pump housing boss index mark (B).” Just wanted to give you this information based on your comment that all pumps should be adjusted at full throttle. The oil inlet is at the end of the pump, you can see the cut off hose and clamp is still present.. Small tubes are outlets. Once the bleed has been loosened to purge air from the inlet side, you can manually move the oil lever to the full throttle position and with the engine idling you will see the oil pulse through the outlet tubes into the manifold. Once you see no air bubbles you are done...

Great video man. I have a different scenario. I have a Mercury 50 elpto with oil injection. I have a manual and emailed Mercury marine. I don't have a cable from oil pump. I have a linkage that honestly is kinda halfass. And on my oil pump there is only 1 line to match up to check oil volume spec. Problem is that it is to check a idle. I wish it had a wot line to check alignment. And with all the slop in the linkage i can't feel comfortable it will be right. There is a test to pull the line and run premix and to place oil line in a measuring cup. That would be terrific if i only used oil at idle ! Merc told me to just replace oil pump linkage. But i asked whats with all this play in the linkage? I wish there was a cable instead of this free moving linkage on the outboard. Keep up the great work! People like you are a dying breed in this world today! Glad you are one of the people teaching the next group!!!

Take the cable off and twist half a turn, the kink will disappear. Bend the stop on the oil pump lever to line the idle mark up.

Okay so I noticed that you held that throttle wide open and your tick marks didn't line up and then you adjusted that back so that those tick marks would line up. What would that hurt to leave it the way it is? I have a 98 MXZ 670 and I took the two Flathead screws out of the top and the bottom to pull the oil pump. It feels like it's getting caught on something when I pull it part way out. Any idea. And what would be wrong with my oil pump that oil would just be flowing into the crankcase I shouldn't say flowing but seeping into the crankcase or leaking into the crankcase? Trying to figure out what's going on with my sled for that but I'm thinking the problem May lie in the oil pump seal I'm not sure? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Shane, following your practice in this video and based on that type of system. I have a question regarding this specific type of oil injection system demonstarted; how do I know the engine keep getting oil from the pump at various rpm's when the throttle is fully closed (let's say im riding downhill at different speeds/rpm)? I own a 2-stroke 49cc scooter (Kymco DJ refined 50 2011) and I've always wondered how the oil injection system knows to pump the right amount of oil based on engine speed (when throttle is fully closed). @@How2Wrench Thanks for replying, TBH I forgot I made this comment yesterday. The manuals don't really say what the lines do, all it says it how they are routed. I searched the forums and found that the 2 larger lines that run from the oil tank to the lower portion of the crankcase are to lubricate the rotary valve shaft and gear on the older Seadoo with the rotax engine.

What is the other line and dot for on the oil pump lever?....and is it good to burp the lines to the manifold while the engine is running...cause then there wouldn't be oil getting there for a small period of time.

No. You actually dont even need to bleed that portion once the feed is purged as the engine will suck it through. As someone else mentioned merely hold the lever open while idling until it smokes excessively.

I have a 2 stoke moped that is leaking oil into the carb even while the engine is off and I am not sure what to start with. Would you know if it is a matter of adjusting the cable at the oil pump to stop the flow of oil from being gravity feed into the carb? or do i need a new pump or something? what keeps oil from flowing into the carb by gravity because the carb sits below the oil tank?

Shane Conley Thanks for getting back to me, ok I’ll have a look on there and head over to your site, that would make sense as I had the top end seize up on me at full throttle and after a tear down I couldn’t find and issues, I verified the oiler and it’s pumping, what I didn’t see is if it’s working fully open past there. I have a Yamaha outboard motor that shakes violently when i accelerate. could this oil injection be the problem? I don't actually see any oil coming out when the engine is running (I took the hose where it gets squerted into the engine OFF) But nothing comes out so i assumed it could be this however when i cleanned out the carbies and checked the reed valves I don't see any sensors that would let the engine know theres no oil so i am a little confused. (changed the oil stator, coil packs, spark plugs, fuel pump, cdi unit, new fuel but still engine shakes as soon as i accelerate.. can anyone help.???

Hi Michael. They can also go to the manifold or crankcase. Just follow from the pump out to each cylinder (case). One should come from a tank and the others out to each number of cylinders. Make sure to bleed the air out if ever messed with or the tank was allowed to run dry.

I can't speak for the perfect ratio and it depends on to many factors. Many oil compamies "recommend" a ratio and I still monitor plug readings on a known good motor with no leaks or problems! You can see oil coming out of the pump, but is that enough to trust your life to that little pump? I had my engine locked up in my motorcycle and my friend told me that I shouldn't use the pump, and use premix instead.

Good question Nabil. Let me clarify. If you had been in our class or a student here you would have learned to use assembly lube on the motor rebuild and you also "prime" the oil pump lines when servicing or rebuilding the system. Some mechanics also like to use a premix of oil and gas for the first tank as well. I do not. If the proper assembly lube, and prime procedures are followed, there is no need. I have an entire series of videos on this channel with this information in my WITCC 2-stroke playlist.

Bummer man...just a quick note....if truly detonated, that would be a fuel quality, timing, ignition related. Not bleeding the pump or lines would cause seizure. The reason I mention this is if your have detonation then you also have other problems and a rebuild without addressing them would happen again even with the lines bled. Pretty sure though, your intake line is not actually the intake - looks like a cat pump and the intake line is inline with the main body - the lines are all outlets
