Absolutely excellent! It is 21 July 2024. I just ran across your channel. I shared it with many others. I am up in the Rocky Mountains State Forest idaho. I own several classic cars and a truck (American, British and German) from the 1960s to late 1970s) and a truck plus more contemporary daily drivers. How does the coolant flow when the termostat is closed on motorcycles ? On cars there is a small loop for the coolant to circulate, but on my XL600V Transalp there is no "loopback" after the hot coolant reach the thermostat. What is going on until the thermostat open, what is the water pump doing since there is no loopback ? Does the coolant just sit there waiting to reach temperature, or it does circulate in some ways ?

There are two routes out of the engine where the thermostat goes. When the thermostat is closed, coolants takes one shorter route back to the engine. When the thermostat opens it closes the shorter one and opens the longer one to the radiator for cooling , heat exchange.
