For the last few years of his life, Matt Busby lived about three doors from my mother, she being in a small flat. Six months before his death, when I was visiting her from overseas, I stopped my car to let a little old silver haired gentleman shuffle across the junction of her exit. He gave me a cheery wave. I was stunned that it was Sir Matt. Having respect for the privacy of fellows like him, I just waved back. When I heard he had died, I wished I had got out of the car to shake his hand.

These men managed their teams during era when there was no television pundits throwing their tuppence in after every game, no ex players telling them what to do Football was football then and available to everyone not £50 a game to get in

McIlvanney was such a great writer. I watched this when first aired on TV and two times more here on KZbin and it is brilliant. Remarkable men during remarkable times - true working class heroes - absolutely incredible stories that dramatised films of, would never do justice, but this documentary does do the story justice. Documentaries today are nowhere nearly as well done.

Mourinho won the UEFA cup and champions league with FC Porto. They were no paupers but didn't have the typically star studded squad associated with winning habits. His achievements with them warrant as high a tribute as anything done by the likes of ferguson at aberdeen and clough at nottingham forest.
