The Tape Tool can only join ends. A line is a single line. If you join from the middle of another line, like a capital letter T, then that's 2 lines. Don't forget that the brush tool had a snapping feature that allows you to join onto another line in the middle.

I was wondering how to select and move several points at once. After quitting OT because of the fill tool problems, I’ve come back because it’s improved and have been binge-watching tutorials. Yours are helpful and to the point. Everyone interested in this software should subscribe to Darren T.

Thanks Toon. I really appreciate that. I do take some time before recording to try to pick out the main points I want to get across, to not waste anyone's time and to fit in as much information as I can. OpenToonz is improving all the time. And recently there have been new developers joining, improving the program. FYI, on the point you raise about selecting control points, only today, this feature has been extended to allow using a freehand selection of points (available in the nightly builds soon): kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKDOdqyrgpKlpJo

I always steered clear of vectors in Opentoonz for the fill gap reason and just how resource heavy vector lines are over raster level counterparts! I might have to try this again now that I have seen that you can have both a clean fill and few control points in an image. Thanks for the tutorial! :)
@DarrenTAnims6 жыл бұрын
As I said in the video, it's feels an unnatural way to draw, but if you use a raster level to sketch and use this for cleanup, it could be useful. Good luck.

an eyeopener for me when you used ctrl+ muisklik for an extra control point. i used magnet function for extra control points. you made my life so much easy with this. and i feel so stupid

I'm glad that tip helped. OpenToonz hides so many features behind control keys, shortcuts and magic hand waving, that most week's I learn something new. That's why I'm pleased to get these videos out there. To share the knowledge.

@@DarrenTAnims thank you for replying, I didn't know you were so attetnive! May I ask a question? Or if you already have a video, I'll watch and like it. If not, you can ignore me😅 Can I manipulate a hand as you did and then add shading or highlight colors using the same shape manipulation method? So, I would have multiple, separate vector shapes that are filled stacked on each other. Also, the polyline tool works with the same method for anyone wondering 🤗🐉
@DarrenTAnims4 жыл бұрын
You just happened to have caught me while I'm online :-) You can't manipulate multiple levels using the control point editor, but you can edit multiple levels using the Selection tool. There's a mode drop down on the options toolbar where you can choose to select across multiple columns or multiple frames.

The tape tool is great. The join vector box is available on endpoint to endpoint and endpoint to Line. But it's not available line to line, hopefully there will a update for it.
@DarrenTAnims Жыл бұрын
Yes, that's right. You can't join in the middle of a line. This'll create 2 lines. If you want that, just use the snap option on the toolbar and use the brush.

i cant use it, it says "The current tool cannot be used in Toonz level" can you help?
@DarrenTAnims4 жыл бұрын
Yes. You can't use that tool in that level type. If it's the Control Point Editor, you can only use that on the vector levels. If you're unsure, the levels that the tools can be used on, check out the help guide (linked from the help menu)

Good tutorial. Great tutorial for some alternate reality, but where I am, Alt doesn't do anything. How do I break or re-establish smoothness? I found a work-around. Select the control point. R-click, choose "Set linear control point". Then R-click again, choose "Set nonlinear control point". Then, if you're lucky, you have to control point handles that go out at whatever crazy angles depending on the previous and next control points along the path. Another thing I discovered is that, with smoothness broken, if I move one handle to be close to aligned with the other, parallel but opposite, they automatically snap together, giving a smooth aka "nonlinear" control point.

i am not able to use the control points on my animations and i need help plz ,it always says 'the current tool cannot be used on a toonz level'
@DarrenTAnims4 жыл бұрын
That's because that tool can only be used on a vector level, not on a Toonz Raster level. If you draw on a vector level you can use that tool.

Sir How To multiple hand swap Png Image
@DarrenTAnims Жыл бұрын
You'd need to give me some more information for me to give you an accurate answer. You can swap your drawings on the timeline, if they're in the same level using the Q & W keys.
Hello Darren, Thanks so much for sharing, always appreciated the many platforms you have to support opentoonz user. I can't help but wonder if there's any distant plan for improving the vector brush, perhaps having it paint fill vectors or fill shapes as in flash or toonboom? I know it is not something easy to implement but just curious about the future. Cheers and thanks for everything

Thanks for watching Mauricio. I'm not a developer, so can't help directly in that area, but on the semi-official disord, server and on the feature request pages, there have been many chats about improving some of those vector issues. I hope that a keen developer might look on those discussions and take them on one day. That and a request to improve the speed of the main viewer would improve the program immensely.

Hey, love the tutorial. I have some 15 hand shapes made in Illustrator. Is it possible to import them all and switch them with slider base on what the character is doing?
@DarrenTAnims4 жыл бұрын
Yes you can import them. OpenToonz is fairly good at importing svg images, but if they fail, you might want to export them out of Illustrator as pngs and import those. If so, you should name them in the OpenToonz format of [text].[4 digits].png. e.g. character.0001.png, character.0002.png, etc. Then when you drag one into OpenToonz, it'll recognise that they're an image sequence. Once imported, just extend any image through the length of your animation and you can move between frames and either press the Q or W keys, to cycle through them, or if you like, you can click the skeleton tool and then you can click and drag on the image text that is over the image on the drawing area. It'll make sense when you use it, I promise. Good luck buddy

Hey Darren ! If im drawing w a brush tool and want to use the control points afterwards, it gives me a bit too many control points to adjust which makes it a bit more demanding, So my question is; Is there a way to set a value for this, making it "less precise" by default. Thx man
@DarrenTAnims Жыл бұрын
Sure. Just turn down the Accuracy slider on the options toolbar. That's what controls the number of control points. Increasing smoothing can also help.

@@DarrenTAnims How can i move a red ball behind a blue ball when they are drawn on the same vector level, it kinda goes behind it but shows the outline :/ Right clicking the object and selecting The "move to back / front" doesn't seem to be doing anything :'(
@DarrenTAnims Жыл бұрын
@@RedMegaMan. First, check a render to see if the outline really is rendered in front of the blue ball. Sometimes what you see on screen isn't quite what you get with the render.

There's only the one vector "brush", but you enable pressure sensitivity and the min/max size for it.
