Did you really just multiply his PER to 36 minutes thinking that it is a correct depiction of what production someone puts out on the court if he stays out there longer, when he has the pressure of carrying the team, when more fatigue kicks in, when consistency is demanded. I attended the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut a year after Manute Bol (Bol Bol father) played there. Manute only played one year there and was coming off his rookie year with the Washington Bullets. I was a basketball player and my freshman and sophomore years would play a lot of pickup basketball with him in our school gym. Manute was a character. He cursed like a sailor. He could drink a case of 24 beers at one time and not get drunk. Manute was a very funny person and great guy if he was your friend. If he didn't know you he was stand offish. My girlfriend my sophomore year was a cheerleader on the team his freshman year, and Manute had a big crush on her. She was a Stacy Dash lookalike and the finest girl on campus. Manute had his own seat by the bar at the popular off campus restaurant Famous Pizza (best pizza in the world to this day). Me and my girl would often run into Manute at the restaurant and he would just stare at her. He fashioned himself as a lady's man. On the court, you could be directly behind the college 3 point line and take a jumpshot, he could be under the basket, take one giant step towards you, and still block your shot. I would tell people that if you didn't believe in the Most High God, you WOULD after seeing him in person. He was one of one. He was a different type of tall. He was extremely LONG and LANKY, with an extremely high waist line. His weaknesses were that he was slow and lacked lateral quickness, so if you drove to the basket you had to get him to change directions or react before you shot a layup or he would block your shot every time. Manute Bol had a true warrior spirit, and had a lot of self pride, in a good way. He was proud of his Sundanese heritage and walked with his head held high. He was very, very, very sensitive about jokes concerning his height. My freshman year, me and a fellow freshman named Connie, was shooting baskets on a side basket. The basketball got lodged between a wire at the top of the backboard. As Manute is walking off the main court after a pickup game, Connie, who didn't know Manute at the time, said Manute, can you jump up there and get the ball. Connie was joking because even Manute couldn't jump that high. Manute was so enraged by the comment that he ran off the court towards Connie, grabbed him by the shirt, and threw him against the wall, and said, you don't know me, you don't know me, I will hurt you. Everyone in the gym was so afraid for Connie. Manute then walked away, cursing to himself. Connie became the basketball team manager, and he and Manute later became the best of friends, because they both were very funny guys. Bol Bol if you read this, know that your father was a real warrior, who carried himself like he was a king. Fun fact: hall of famer Chris Mullin, had a younger brother who played on the team, so Chris Mullin would also hang out on campus, and he and Manute were inseparable. This is before they were teammates on the Golden State Warriors. I believe Bol Bol is his godson. After college, during the early 90s, I worked at the New York Times Newspaper. One of my good friends, and mentors, was a man named William Rhoden. A great man and human being. He was an award winning sports writer who covered the NBA for the newspaper. He was a former football All American at Grambling University. So he didn't just write about sports, he played sports himself. He would later become an analyst on ESPN, and on the show The Insiders, he would also later author, two NY Times Bestsellers, "Forty Million Dollar Slave The History of The Black Athlete", and "Third and a Mile the Trials and Triumphs of The Black Quarterback" (which coincidentally was published right before the NFL started bringing in a lot of Black quarterbacks). The day before I resigned from the NY Times in early 1994, he took me out to lunch. I remember him telling me 2 things. One, Micheal Jordan was forced to retire from the Chicago Bulls by the NBA, because there was big scandal brewing about his gambling, that would potentially ruin his career and the NBA. He went and played baseball to stay in shape, and save the MLB, who was striking at the time. Second, he told me that the NBA has a plan to make the league like it was in the 1970s, where most of the star players were Black, but many of the reserves and players off the bench were White. With a few White stars peppered in. And because the USA wasn't generating many White star NBA players by the early to mid 90s, the NBA would target European players. At the time I didn't think it could be done, because I had played against European pros and they weren't on our level. But sure enough, Mr. Rhoden was right. This is my theory on how the NBA accomplished this. One they sent their best coaches over to Europe to host basketball camps and clinics, and helped the Europeans develop a system for developing fundamentally sound players (similar to what the US did with sending Edward Demming to help Japan after WWll) . The major sneaker companies, Nike, Adidas, and Reebok, set up basketball academics throughout Europe. My younger cousin who is now in his mid 30s was a top ranked point guard in Europe as a teenager, growing up as a biracial kid in Vienna, Austria. When he would come to NYC to visit me, I would take him to the park, and at 12 years old, his basketball fundamentals were light years ahead of the older teenage players I would match him up against. The NBA also ramped up their Basketball Without Borders Program not only in Europe but also in Africa and Asia. While the NBA was putting all their resources abroad, here in the United States, all the top camps where American players learned fundamentals, such as Five-Star, the Nike Camp, Reebok Camp, and Adidas ABCD Camp, were eventually removed. Our predominantly Black kids were now being predominately raised by AAU basketball, which is nothing but glorified pickup basketball. And the AND 1 streetball Tour was being fed to an entire generation of players for almost 10 years. Basketball genocide. There is more to it, but you get the point. As a former NBA caliber talent myself who was caught up with basketball politics and forced to attend and play at a division 2 college, and had many friends who either played in the NBA or had NBA tryouts, I know personally there is more to the game than just the game. And talent recognizes talent, Bol Bol passes the eye test with me. If you watch his highlights, some of the stuff he does, I haven't seen another guy that tall do, especially with his ball handling and creative finishing at the basket. Is he as good as Wemby? Probably not, but who is? But, you cannot tell me that if a coach supported him and gave him more of a green light he couldn't be a star, he would be. His efficiency would be better if he played more minutes because he would be able to get into a better rhythm, and if he didn't have to always look over his shoulders at the coach wondering when he is getting pulled from the game for making a mistake on the court, he would play with more confidence (which his father Manute never lacked). That makes a big difference. Something is definitely going on. Someone somewhere in high places doesn't want to see him succeed, that's obvious to me. I now live in Orlando Florida and I watched Bol Bol do some incredible things last year when he played for the Orlando Magic. One last note: a former high school teammate of mine at powerhouse St. Nicholas of Tolentine HS in the Bronx, was Malik Sealy (RIP), who was teammates and best friends with Kevin Garnett (KG wore 21 because he looked up to Malik) on the Minnesota Timberwolves. Malik's father was Malcolm X's main bodyguard, who later had a nervous breakdown for not being with Malcolm the night he was assassinated. Malik was named after him. Malik Sealy was a beautiful humble Brother that was very business minded, more importantly, he was very conscious minded with knowledge of self. He also was killed driving home from Kevin Garnett's 21st birthday party. He was hit by a drunk driver. KG had just signed the biggest contract in NBA history, over 120 million dollars. Imagine if Malik Sealy would have lived and been in KGs ear giving him and other NBA players even more wisdom knowledge and understanding.

First of all, I am a "Bol Bol" fan however, "Bol Bol" is "Lazy" especially, on "Defense" he doesn't block out effectively, he doesn't crash the boards as often as he should and as he would rather shoot 3 point shots than to play down in the paint where he belongs so, what's the sense of having all that size if it's not being utilized properly? This is the main reason why so many teams have passed on him because, he wants to play basketball the way he played growing up and not the way he's being coached to play the game, that's why he's getting very limited minutes in the games he does played in and until he buys into the strengths of his abilities he will continue to get very limited playing opportunities until the NBA labels him as a "Bust" and kicks him out of the league so, it's getting to a point with "Bol Bol" it's either "Do" or "Die"! Bol Bol hasn't adjusted his game to fit the NBA yet and he doesn't understand that no team wants a 7' 3" shooting guard that plays no defense and doesn't play down in the paint.

There you go, that is why Wemby is way more valuable tha Bolbol, Bol Bol is kind of finish product (same age as Doncic). Wemby ceiling not yet seen for sure crasy to imagine in 3 year…

I remember his pops donating his salary to his community. The media spoke so ill about him doing that. Imagine if the athletes all over had that mind set. It would change the crime rate in the hood. It would bring our people up.

Yes, imagine, but none of these Bballers have this mentality. And I don't believe that Bol Bol has it. Bol is from his father, not of his father.

It's always been a marketing thing. We all know he's not cute, but the talent is there. Bol Bol realized what was happening during the draft. The disappointment on his face was hard to take. Watch him drop from a top pick.

Why not use his last season stats when he was getting minutes? 9ppg 6rpg playing 25 minutes games. He was a defensive liability with the 8 ft wingspan. He's a decent player. He shows glimpses of starter ability, but he's not consistent.... Also, Dikembe Mutombo has donated millions to his village as well. Hakeem did the same thing. But that doesn't fit into the narrative of the KZbinrs video...

Suns fan here! I had never watched Bol Bol before he came to thw team and had only seen highlights. When he first played, he was terrible and completely lost defensively but had the occasional flash. KD has been mentoring him and you can see it on the bench. He is now playing great defense and has steadily seen his minutes increased to the point where hes essentially KD's backup. They also run a lineup with Book/Beal/KD/Bol/Nurk which I believe will be a staple lineup in the playoffs. I think we will be seeing much more of Bol Bol on a consistent basis here soon!

I don’t think Bol is lazy. I think he’s unmotivated because he’s constantly overlooked. Watch his games and see just how many times he’s wide open and his teammates refuse to pass to him. Even when he’s under the rim which is guaranteed points. With more exposure like Wemby he would undoubtedly be one of the most phenomenal rooks and his career would be on a different level.

Your take on Bol Bol is spot on. Your take on the "politics" is in my view a bit off. Let's take a look at all of the Black American players in the league now, only Kyrie has spoken the way he's spoken. The fact that the Top 5-6 players in the NBA are foreign born players is not an indictment on them, it's an indictment on USA basketball.

@DarkTime, you're right, Minute Bol have been proven that he was a threat on the basketball court. So, the relation that you've made about him being from lineage of a black man from Africa who is for his people is very intimidating to them, but there is also more Minute Bol story than people know which is concerning to them as well It's so good to hear another conscious brother speak on these things. Keep it up. 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿

Dark Time first time watching your channel I'm a lifelong Nuggets fan I can tell you first hand Mike Malone broke the spirit of this young man he showed many flashes of greatness with the Nuggets.Malone tried to put this wonderful athletic guy in the Post where he would have a severe injury he didn't have the quickness to play for the defensive coach so he shot from the wing and is a pure shooter if Malone didn't have Jokic he already would be fired he's terrible at making adjustments and also doesn't like playing young players

I like Bol Bol. I'm a Nuggets fan. I watched all of his minutes in Denver. He was spectacular at times. He also didn't care at times. There weren't enough minutes in Denver, and he didn't handle that well. His attitude got worse over time. He is also a kid, and you're right he has all the skills that Wemby has. I hope the Suns continue to invest in BB. I like him, he seems like a great kid. He's just shy, and a little passive. His upside is mindboggling.

Wemby has shown that their style of play can be effective with fans receptive to it. With a league full of players signed because of potential to develop into a valuable player, it is a bit baffling why most of the NBA has shown little interest in a player of his height and style of play similar to Wemby.

No conspiracy Bol Bol was given a chances by teams with starter minutes. he can put up good numbers but also make bad mistakes while looking lost on the floor. He needs a lot of coaching and to be consistent with the little things, moving his feet on defense, being in the right spots, his off the ball work and handles need work. But because of his size he still has a chance to prove himself but he needs to work harder. its all on him.

Absolutely spot on brother...it's the bloodline they are afraid of. Imagine Bol Bol playing his way to 100m contract which he could easily do with enough minutes. Millions in USD spread large in Africa. The league certainly watches how players spend their money. Otherwise athletes salaries alone could solve plenty of issues if resourced in the proper way
@nathanielwalls21623 ай бұрын
Does anyone remember when Nate Robinson blocked the 7+ft tall Yao Ming? These overseas players are really being pampered today, NBA was always feared by overseas players due to the physicality & the skill they have to go with it on the court. Now they NBA is so water down players flopping & not playing complete seasons or not showing up to play the best/top teams.

*One blocked shot....* , but he absolutely LOVED his 25 pts and 14 rbs. Look, you made an excellent video. I worked in the NBA for 5 years. Bol Bol only wants to score. That's his problem. He can't even "fake" interest in anything else. If he blocked 6 or 7 shots every three games or so? The NBA wouldn't have a (choice) but to prop him up over Jokic and Wemby. But as long as he is "me first" instead of "team first".... he stays where he decides to stay.
@gabrielcarrasco90785 ай бұрын
Bol Bol has never played any sort of defense. Bol is athletic, but he's not similar to Wemby in any way.
@athirdwhy97345 ай бұрын
Could be but I just think there's been too many "me first" stars and superstars in the league for that to be the only reason he's not getting playing time...Kobe, Iverson, Carmelo Anthony, early MJ, Stackhouse, Luka, among others were/are all "me first" players getting playing time no matter what. Ryan Shaw recently explained to PG13 how Phil Jackson nurtured kobe's "me first" mindset. There was also another ball player (can't remember who, might've been Shaq) who, in an interview, explained how Laker Coach Del Harris would get word from the front office - during games - about letting Kobe play after Harris would bench Kobe for ball hogging and going rogue on plays.
