I lost a friend of 25 years because she didn't understand why I was getting rid of a lot of my possessions. She thought I was giving up on life and asked me if I was suicidal. I tried to explain that I was just letting go of things that I didn't need, but she couldn't see it that way. I guess she was just afraid for me, and I chose to stop trying to convince her otherwise. I just wanted to be free from stuff. Which I am still working on... :-)

NoProGoPronto wow isn't that crazy the strangle hold consumerism has on people and how much the relate their identity to their stuff. sorry she couldn't understand. that feeling is so frustrating to me. you don't necessarily need them to agree or do the same but to just be open minded enough to understand and support you really makes all the difference.

I love your positive stance on this tricky issue! So many people come at "difference" from a point of argument, but you chose to focus on what we share in common. Your use of the word ENJOY speaks volumes about you and your point-of-view. Thanks so much for this message!

Erica Goehring Thank you so much for your appreciation! It's great to connect with you here. Yes, I really agree that if we focus on our commonalities we can really enjoy learning and growing together! Thank you for watching and sharing here!

Tell you what I did. Rather than feel compelled to put a traditional lamp or piece of furniture in front of a wall outlet....I put these louvered LED lights in most of my outlets. Movie theater style.Have about 10 of them spread around about 12 inches off the floor. Its not overwhelming light but the floor sort of glows at night. Keep up the good work Brittany.

globalproductvendors Oh my gosh, this sounds AWESOME! Such an inspired idea. I would love to try something like this- overhead lighting can be so harsh. I've been using Christmas lights recently :). Thanks so much for sharing here!

I really enjoyed this vlog Brittany and your view that minimalism is going to look different for everyone. I don't have as many personal things as my husband but he has parred down considerably over the last few years. I organise the common areas as that is just the way our marriage has evolved over the last 30 odd years. The linen cupboard, kitchen, bathrooms etc have very few items and hubby is happy with that. You've inspired me to have a another look at what we aren't using or really love and simplify some more.

Michele McGill I am so glad you enjoyed this video. It's beautiful to hear about how you and your husband have made it work for you and that that has evolved over the last 30 years. I'm honored that I have been able to offer some inspiration here. Thank you so much for reaching out and all the best to you and your husband!

Although I am no where near where I want to end up in my journey, my partner is finally on board since we will be moving soon...and that makes me very happy. I never pushed the issue. Great information.

I have down sized to have all my clothing, for all seasons, fitting into 2 storage tubs. This is coming from two walk in closets full of designer clothing, shoes and bags. I was going through all these things I realized how different of a person I was. lol who spends more $5 on a shirt? Not this chick anymore. I had such expensive clothing in an excessive amount. I sold most of it on ebay to go towards bills and the rest dropped at a rummage sell. I hate useless objects now. Nick nacks? No!!
