We kick off the video by walking through what’s in the box when you buy a Shark APEX UpLight (model LZ601), highlighting the included tools and attachments, the filters, the manual, etc.
We like that the UpLight has a low profile. This allows it to get under low furniture. Many of the larger full size Shark uprights cannot easily get under low furniture. We show the APEX AZ1002 upright struggling to get under our low coffee table.
We find that the UpLight is every bit as good on carpet and bare floors as most of our full size uprights. We place a debris field (ground cheerios, flax seeds, chili flakes, split green peas, fruit loops) on our low pile carpet and run the UpLight over it. We also place a similar debris field on our tile flooring and vacuum it up with the UpLight. The UpLight has DuoClean technology (a second soft brushroll at the front of the cleaner head) and this helps do a good job on bare floors.
The vacuum comes with Zero-M Technology or what Shark sometimes refers to as a self-cleaning brushroll. We put this technology to the test and run the Uplight over both pet hair and human hair. We then inspect the brushroll to see how well the Zero-M Technology worked. We compare the results to another machine, the Shark HV382 stick vacuum. The HV382 also has DuoClean Technology but no Zero-M Technology. The contrasting results are significant.
We always like to see a long power cord on a corded vacuum. We compare the power cord length of the UpLight to that of a few other Shark uprights (one with a long power cord and one with a power cord we consider short). We are pleased that the UpLight has a 30 foot power cord which we consider to be a reasonable length.
We like that the Uplight has headlights. Some vacuums do and some do not. Headlights help when you are vacuuming under some furniture where it may be hard to see, or frankly when vacuuming in any dimly lit area.
The UpLight is a bagless vacuum and as such you have a dust canister to empty. We find the dust canister on this machine to be very easy to detach, very easy to empty, and very easy to reattach.
Some stick-like vacuums cannot stand on their own. We show the Shark IONFlex and the Shark HV382. Neither of these can stand and must be laid down or leaned against a wall when not in use. Lots of people have complained about this issue. With the UpLight Shark has built in wheels that will extend when you place the vacuum in upright mode. These wheels allow the machine to stand on its own. They will also retract when you start to vacuum. This system works and we show the wheels extending and retracting.
Many Shark vacuums have the popular lift away feature and the UpLight is no exception. This feature allows you to carry the motor/dust-canister assembly in one hand while using the hose/wand/tools with the other hand. It “kind of” provides handheld flexibility. We were happy to see that they included this feature on the APEX Uplight.
A HEPA filter and a sealed system are provided with the vacuum. A HEPA filter is important if you or someone in your household suffers from asthma or allergies, and a sealed system ensures that all the air entering the vacuum gets filtered - it doesn’t leak out through poor seals or cracks in the vacuum body.
We ran some noise tests using a digital noise level meter which measures decibels. We placed the meter 3 feet in front of the cleaner head and turned the brushroll on. Peak decibels over a 10 second period were determined. We did this for the UpLight and several full size uprights including the Dyson Ball Animal 2. We determined that the UpLight is not a particularly noisy machine.

We have 3 dogs that all shed and this vacuum is amazing! I no longer have to clean out the roller and deal with a clogged vacuum. I also love that it has a light on the front of the vacuum and on the wand. I can easily see the smallest dog hairs and dirt. I actually enjoy vacuuming now!

After watching a few in-depth videos on this model of Shark, I picked one up with high hopes it would work well for me at a much lower price point than the Dyson . . . 7? that I now use. I'm 5' 4", in my 40s, and live with chronic illness, vision impairment, and auto immune disease. I found the Apex Uplight to be too tall/long for me, which made the weight of the whole device to be too much. I have to move a little bit of furniture around when I vacuum, like the dining room chairs, the office chair, or the rolling carts I have in my art studio, and between that effort plus having to haul and push around the Apex Uplight, I didn't have enough strength or stamina to complete a pretty straightforward task. Managed to find a deal on my Dyson where I got a charging stand with extra tools and storage for the same price as just the vacuum normally is. Between the exgtras, and the ability to vacuum when I want to without having to recover for a day afterwards, it's more than worth it for me.

You probably one day review the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser model 1650a. And also whenever you reviewed a Shark powered lift away vacuum you never test the powered lift-away mode in which you detach the moter/filter/dust-canister assembly off and if you do with cleaner head and extension wand connected the brush roll is still powered so you can do that to clean under low furniture.

Does carpet cleaning do well along edge of the wall with the brushless roller at the front? I worry that it still relies on the powerfin to truly pull up deep dirt in the carpet, which is not possible along the edge of the wall as the brushless roller is at the front. Thanks.

One major downside on shark vacuums is hose breaks on uprights and most likely stick vac on floor attachment L-bends/pivot and can't buy parts And attachments are poorly designed and poor quality.

Makes no sense to have motor so near one's face; noise, exhaust too close; also too much weight on wrist. Sharks worst design.
