I feel like the Australian government needs to see this - the amount of sharks they kill every year is heartbreaking.

Thank you Glenn! The majority of people do not realise how finite our eco system is and how beautiful creatures like the shark are such a big part of the fragile balance of our oceans. I really do hope more and more people stand up for this fight! We have such little time left!

People need to care about fish, marine mammals and every ecosystem, land or sea

at an intersection today a large truck pulled up, filled with caged chickens, one had its little beak out gasping for air, we must have respect not just for ecosystems, but for lives too.

Everyone should see this

It was posted in our group today, so many great talks are never seen. I was thinking about sharks because I story from Australia where one attacked a surfer very close to shore, then another story about divers swimming with a huge Great White. The dichotomy of these creatures is so wide.

Ann, Thanks for the comment. I don't recommend unprotected diving with large sharks. In my eyes it is needless risk-taking and when a tragedy occurs, sharks take the blame. To see how interacting with large predators can go terribly wrong, look up the documentary about Timothy Treadwell. Probably do not want to watch it with small children. Have a great day! Glenn

@@glennparsons3696 Glenn I saw the article Ann was talking, and these were experienced people, I don't think they went out with a plan to do it, it just happened.

@@suebakernottly Hi Sue, Thanks for the comment. I was speaking in generalities not in reference to any particular article. If someone chooses to swim with a large great white that is their decision to make. However, it worries me that when it gets posted on youtube, people may think that they can go out and do this will-nilly. I guess I just don't share the fatal fascination that snake handlers, grizzly bear whisperers and shark swimmers share. All beautiful animals in their own rights, need to be protected and conserved, and if there are experienced folks willing to help protect them by engaging in risky behavior, then more power to them. All the best! Glenn

I love this video , it made me cry. I think that more people need to help sharks.

Everything in this video is amazing but no fisherman is going to agree with the different material line because then that defeats the purpose of the line being strong so it won't break when a giant tuna or swordfish gets on. When a fish is on the fishermen are running to that rod to get the fish in as quick as possible so a shark "sitting" for 6+ hours is unrealistic, the faster they bring the fish in the faster they can go to shore and get paid.

Michael, The leader is not meant for rod-and-reel fishers. The idea is that a leader change in the COMMERCIAL tuna fishing industry would allow more sharks to be released and not be held on the line for 6 hours. Commerical tuna fishers do not use rod and reel. They use long lines that have thousands of hooks that may be "soaked" for several hours leaving sharks hooked for long periods of time. Tuna and swordfish do not have cutting teeth like sharks so they are not likely to break off the line.
