Matt and his team were my guide through Rajasthan. Such an amazing experience. If you can ride a motorcycle, I highly recommend his group tours. He has ruined regular tourist travel for me, because once you ride off the beaten track you’ll never want to travel any other way.

I did a round trip from Pune to Ladakh in 2016. It was about 6000 kms trip. My cost for fuel, food, stay was around 18000 Indian rupees, it is roughly 350 Australian dollars. Its no adventure if someone else does all the planning for you.

I am just making a point that if you are going on an "adventure", then you should do your own planning. Or you can take help of locals. There are local players that offer a variety of services. It can be as basic as renting out bikes; to being tour guide + Mechanic and follow you with a 4x4. Its perfectly fine if someone chooses the guy from shark tank over a local business. Even Royal Enfield has its own tours every year for around 38k INR. They have a doctor, mechanics, spares and if one does not want to ride a bike he has a spare human to ride it for him too.

I worked for a company that did off road tours, very successful when it started, then the “business guys” came in and started making changes and profits went up but in a matter of a couple of years the businesses started to go downhill. This is the perfect example of the classic repair shop scheme. Matt went in asking for 15% (an oil change) with fair numbers (a perfect car), but because he made it clear, especially vocally, that he was ignorant to the subject he got lowballed and convinced it was still a good deal (upsold by being convinced to purchase an unnecessary service). Edit: In the US, at least. I'm not sure if that's a common trend in AU.
