Shark Tank Australia

4 жыл бұрын

Peter is a dairy farmer who epitomizes Australian innovation. He saw a gap in his farming equipment so he went to work and created the Rat Barrow - the first ride-on articulated tipping barrow to assist in material handling. He is in the Tank asking for a $200,000 investment for 25% equity in his business and is looking to use the money to secure a large manufacturer and eventually scale into the U.S. He’s done the hard yakka, will a Shark jump on the Rat Barrow for a ride?
An international sensation, Shark Tank AUS features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Tank from our Sharks, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

Farmers are well respected because they uphold some of the toughest and most grueling jobs and support a lot of what we take for granted. I think they all saw a piece of themselves in him when he mentioned losing that money and the ability to continue working on it because of market fluctuation. Was pretty heartwarming to see it.

If they don't go through with it they risk ruining their reputation which is something a lot more important. Their clever people so I'm almost certain they go through with it. They wouldn't want to risk having any comments or leaks they didn't do what they said they would so instead going through with it and also good media attention that they are doing something nice for someone who is having a difficult time.

With so many farmers doing it tough in Australia because of our years of drought, it's good to see one expanding his options and not just asking for a handout because of poor business choices and putting all his eggs in to one basket. It's also good to see that the sharks didn't bite his hand off and take ludicrous amounts of equity, and that you could see in their hearts they wanted to see the business succeed, but didn't feel comfortable taking profit from his company/farm. I wish more people in this country acted like this: we don't need cash handouts, we need access to opportunity and a helping hand in diversifying our skills so that we don't have to sell the farm to feed the kids, that's all.

It looks weird compared to the others but you have to understand the Australian market is also different. Because we are so large with a small population it makes it hard to crack a market here, and even then the potential customers is way smaller. Yes there's the possibility of exporting it but that adds a whole new dimension. It's sort of like how in the US version they say "it's just too niche" the bar for that is much higher here.
@r6854
@r6854 4 жыл бұрын
@@eamon876 That is true, I actually did not think of it from that perspective. I guess what threw me of is when they were talking about making a phone call to someone like John Deere or some other manufacturer to license it. Also the comment about not needing the money. Every entrepreneur needs the money, at least in the short time, that is why they are offering a part of their business. If they were looking for a company with global appeal, I would have thought that this would be a contender. I actually thought they were going to offer him a deal contingent on that they could get a manufacturer to build it. That way they may do more than just make some introductions and have a vested interest in the success.

@@r6854 Even if they don't pay for the equity there's still lawyer and accounting costs, non money based equity agreements are insanely complex and difficult to write up too. It's funny but I guess it's a bit of an Australian thing, there's this idea of mateship and informal favors. They probably look at him, think I can help him be successful, and then rather than getting direct money from his business they instead now have a friend who owns a million dollar company.

200k÷25%=Evaluation The offer price ( P) is equal to the equity percent (E) times the value (V) of the company: P = E x V. Using this formula, the implied value is: V = P / E. So if they are asking for $100,000 for 10%, they are valuing the company at $100,000 / 10% = $1 million
