When they were speaking in the other dialect it sounded like a COMPLETELY different language. It's so crazy how even in different languages dialect can completely just alter the entire thing to...basically a different language! CRAZY!
@SantomPh8 жыл бұрын
She did recognize the similarities, people who speak 2 dialects of a language (esp if one is the standard) will pick up faster most of the time. It's even harder in places like the Philippines or Indonesia where there are dialects and multiple entire languages yet everyone looks the same lol
@kasseopeia158 жыл бұрын
I agree; I speak three Philippine dialects and the words are completely different amongst each. Anyway, that conversation sounded so cute. I wonder what t hey were saying to each other. Back home, we have a dialect that sounds so sweet and loving when spoken - even when the speaker is already cussing you and your family out! XD
@Philoglossos7 жыл бұрын
What you're touching upon is the fact that often the word "dialect" is used to refer to separate but related languages. For instance, linguistically speaking Mandarin and Cantonese are separate languages, but politically they're referred to as "dialects" of chinese. In reality a dialect is a variety of a language that is understood by speakers of other dialects. For instance, American English and British English are two groups of English dialects, with many sub dialects contained within.
@ibrahimjama55057 жыл бұрын
Heh American English and British English are different spelling/Grammar styles, the actual dialects of "English" are the supposed sub-dialects. For example whether you're speaking RP, Boston or NI dialect a glaswegian accent/dialect is gonna be hella hard to understand. Prefer an outback Alabama accent 100^ of the time. This coming from a Lutonion Hackney speaker, Jersey english sounds closer than Glaswegian.

I'm Japanese. Even the same Japanese people may not understand the meaning of the dialect. Although it is rare that you do not know the meaning completely, the dialect of Akita introduced this time is particularly complicated, so there are many points that can not be understood from Japanese people as well. Not only in Akita but also in Okinawa and Kyushu area there are difficult dialects so foreigners may have trouble. Sorry for Google translation.

Akai Shuichi I'm half Japanese half British and even tho Scottish people are saying the exact same thing people from London (aka me) find it quite difficult to understand Scottish accents. So I'm guessing in Japan it would be the same thing Also different prefectures have different customs and traditions so the whole countries quite varied :)

Lots of fun! Some of the words are guessable like elbow, knee, and heel, but when they demonstrated conversation... yup, this is definitely a different dialect. I have a friend from Tohoku who sometimes throws a little dialect in for fun, saying stuff like どうすべ where in standard Japanese you say どうしよう and so on. Some of what they said in conversation sounded familiar but for the most part it was like listening to a completely new language. I wonder how much variation there is between different parts of Tohoku and how my friend would react if I tried some of this stuff out on her. Haha! 楽しみに!

I'm from Tottori in western part of Japan's Honshu (Main Island) and I only partly understood the conversation between mom and dad, especially I could only catch 10% or so of what dad said. Of course I have my own language which is so different from standard Japanese and most of those from other parts of Japan would not completely understand when I speak it. But it is a pity, like mom said in this video, that younger generations are choosing to speak standard Japanese and our own languages are dying. I live abroad and I have realized that the mother tongue is an essential element of who you are. Your attempt to learn the language of different part of Japan is great in that respect. Thank you.

That 'ghost' voice chilled me more than I expected. I used to live in a house that some of my family members thought was haunted. I was a skeptic, but one day, when I was home alone, doing homework, I heard a sound just like that right up against my ear, as if someone was angrily wheezing an incomprehensible word right next to me. Seconds later, a toy on my bookshelf fell off, seemingly of its own volition. That sound takes me to a dark place I try not to revisit.
