This is the best shear sharpening video out there. Take them apart, Use a nail buff, Use wet tissue, Use red sharpie. All things other sharpening videos do not do. Thank You.

Wait, wait, wait. Hold on a minute! This is only for shears that are a little bit dull. This will not work from nicked shears. It just will help you go a little longer before you call the professional shear sharpener.

The woman CLEARLY understands sharpening. She could teach some of these knife sharpeners on KZbin a thing or two.

Nail buffer. Cool technique. I would think you need to do 3/4 more work l/ strokes on the convex. The concave only needs the one light flat stroke.

A leather strop and compound would be a useful addition to a stylists kit, just like any other craft that depends on blades having a way to get the edge up to the best condition is a useful thing to have.
@BonikaShears3 жыл бұрын
I've seen barbers use this, I think for many hairstylist this would be cumbersome. However, we do sell the strops. bonika.com/collections/abrasives/products/bonika-razor-strop

Most nail buffers don't mention grit, how can we tell what grit are they, or where did you bought yours from?

literally seconds before I found this vid I was thinking 'would a nail buffer work?' xD can I do this with a nail scissors?
@BonikaShears2 жыл бұрын
I don't think this aggressive enough for nail scissors. You may want a fine diamond paddle.
@LBright4444 Жыл бұрын
I tried this. Made my shears worse. They were sharper before attempting this.

You used too much pressure or you were not using a 3000 grit buffer.

@bonicashears , What to do if you are a man and don't have nail buffers? I have many scissors which are bud/dull after 2 to 3 times of usage. I am using weekly or monthly once for hair, paper cutting or box cuttings! * Please Reply Me*
@BonikaShears Жыл бұрын
You should have shears for hair, paper and boxes. All different shears. The nail buffer idea is for hair shears. Use it for removing burs and nicks.

I got some scissors and thinning shears from Amazon as a gift so im assuming they're pretty cheap. I cut my kids hair but do mostly fading with clippers. I do cut their hair periodically. Can i do this technique or both thinners and scissors? If they're still not sharp, who can i take them to so i can have them professionally sharpened? Would these cheap ones be even worth it or get better ones. TIA. GREAT VIDEO.
@BonikaShears9 ай бұрын
I doubt this will do anything for these shears. Sorry to tell you that. It's like sending a kindergarten kid to a college lecture. It won't hurt then but would probably have little benefit.

Please help. Im at home hobby groomer in Europa with low prices so i can't afford to send my scissors away. What can i buy to atleast decent sharpen my own scissors. Like starter kit? All my scissors are getting dull. I also lost a little metal ring inside from sine new scissors and now they arent tight enough to use.
@BonikaShears3 жыл бұрын
There is not an option. If you try to sharpen with a "starter kit" you would run the chance of damaging your shears so that a sharpener could not fix them. I know sharpeners in most European countries. Have you thought about becoming a sharpener yourself?
@kmily7003 жыл бұрын
@@BonikaShears yes but I can't find any courses anywhere. So I don't know where to start
@045Pierre Жыл бұрын
I tried the method, it worked on the first try (passed the wet tissue test to my surprise), but after using the scissors to cut my hair and afterwards sharpening them once more with the same method, seems to make them blunt (struggles to cut dry tissue). What might be the reason? Although, I bought these scissors off AliExpress, and they were honestly initially bad.
@BonikaShears Жыл бұрын
The first problem is you have AlliExpress shears! The second issue, this doesn't truly sharpen them. It will remove slight burs and nicks. I think you need to upgrade your shears. We have some nice ones www.bonika.com
@mocha98510 ай бұрын
would this work with a nail file?
@BonikaShears10 ай бұрын
NO! Too rough. My buffer is 3000 grit. A typical nail file is about 180 grit.
@megg75585 ай бұрын
Not working. Mine was a little dull but now after using the buffer it doesn't cut at all.
@BonikaShears4 ай бұрын
This works but only if you are using 3000 grit, light touch and and it only smooths out the nics. To truly sharpen send them to a professional with a sharpening hone.

You never sharpen the flat inside blade only the outter blad3 or you will ruin them by shaving off the meeting edge.
@BonikaShears2 жыл бұрын
In this video, I am not sharpening. To sharpen the inside you must disassemble the shears and sharpen the whole rideline, that way the edge will continue to meet. Our class on sharpening the inside of the shear that will be taught at the Sharpeners Jam is something I think you will enjoy! www.sharpenersjam.com

Would this help brand new curved shears that are catching hair at the tip? Rest of shears cut fine, just the tips are grabbing hair instead of cutting.
@BonikaShears2 жыл бұрын
It might help... Possibly the shears are just cheap and are out of alignment. New shears usually should cut. I would send them back.
