Wait what's the significance in Gus's name? Other than a caterpillar
@tutterbear988 жыл бұрын
He has two names. Gus and Augustus. Augustus is his alter ego of sorts. What he wants people to see him as. The one that puts an unlit cigarette in his mouth as a metaphor and wants to do great things to the world. Gus is who he really is, even if he doesn't like it. The one that fanboys over video games and flying in an airplane. The one that, because of oblivion (the general idea of existentialism) and his disability, likely won't do great things to the world, unfortunately. Hazel loves Gus more than Augustus because Gus is his real self. But he hates Gus, because of his fear of oblivion. His final weeks are a series of him being depressed (save for the last good day; he's Augustus there) because he's coming to terms with said oblivion and the fact that he can't do anything to help himself, let alone others. The tragedy isn't in his death, or how young he was, but how he had such large dreams for himself and he couldn't make any of them come true. It's sad because we don't know if he came to peace with that idea. And that's also kinda where my theory about after the ending sits. The theory is that Hazel wrote a memoir after Gus's death called the Fault In Our Stars. We don't know if it becomes a bestseller, we don't know if she moved on romantically, but as a last goodbye, she finally gives him immortality in the pages of a book, the only (and best) way she knows how. That's just me, tho. I haven't written or talked about TFIOS in a long time, so this came out of me in a rush. It also makes me want to reread the book, just for kicks.

He knew that he was old, because his first thought, and first words, were "Does your mother know where you ARE?" He was 32.

Is it ok to use grammar to insult someone in KZbin comments who called you stupid but used the wrong your/you're to do so?
@InvincibleWeeba10 жыл бұрын
I can understand how it may feel more justified to do so in this particular circumstance but I would advise considering the following before deciding if it is the course of action you'd like to take: 1. The person insulting you may be dyslexic (as am I) and if this is the case they may genuinely struggle with words such as your and you're. Although dyslexia would not justify them insulting you without cause (I assume in this situation they are insulting you on unjustified terms) it might be more reasonable of you to take the moral high-ground because.. 2. If you can not identify a substantial reason for their insult then it may be better for you to assure yourself that their comment was unfounded and it should bare little influence on your self-worth and/or feelings and then you can walk away from the situation knowing that you're intelligent enough to have imagined the other person more complexly and to have put thought into the situation rather than responding in, what may be considered, a petty way. Hope this helps! DFTBA :)
@BioLuminary10 жыл бұрын
I just find the comment "your stupid" fairly ironic. But I do understand your point, it is easy to be petty when people get frustrating.

Typos aren't grammatically incorrect, they're typos, and I fix mine when I notice them because they bug me, but it's not quite the same thing. Autocorrect errors and typos are not the same as not knowing which of a similar word to use. I just find people who try and call other people stupid but have a poor grasp of the English language.

Can't believe you actually think the Friend Zone is a thing, and not another expression of some men's feelings of entitlement towards women.
@maxhiatt492810 жыл бұрын
That isn't at all what the friend zone is.
@nadiact-ie5hy10 жыл бұрын
Max Hiatt The friend zone is such a strange concept. Boys (it's mostly boys and men) who think that acting as a friend towards girls (and women) should develop into a relationship. These boys are not really friends with these girls, and sometimes, when faced with rejection, can be hurtful and lash out. The girls in question never asked for and did not desire a romantic relationship, and they should be under no obligation to oblige these boys. These boys are acting under a sense of entitlement: I gave this girl my attention and affection, therefore they should be my girlfriend. But life doesn't work like that. By saying that the girl "friendzoned" them, they are putting the fault on the girl for not entering into a relationship that the girl does not wish for. When I was in high school, I really wanted to be the girlfriend of two of my good friends (at different times, of course). I was deeply upset when I asked one of them out and he said no. I was also deeply upset when the other asked another girl to the prom. But I never, ever thought that they were responsible for my feelings or for my "rejection." They owed me nothing for being my friend. You cannot expect people to be attracted to you. I like most of what Hank said in the video linked above and what John has said in videos in the past. However, I think I would agree with Roman that we should stop using the word "friendzone" and call it what it is, an unhealthy obsession with someone.
@maxhiatt492810 жыл бұрын
nadiact1000 I'm afraid you're mistaken. What you have described isn't "the friendzone," rather just a crush. When a boy likes a girl, he doesn't automatically assume that the girl should be his girlfriend. That's just crazy. The friendzone is when a boy likes a girl, and the girl leads him on, saying things like "I wish there were more boys like you," "if only I could find a guy to date just like you." The boy believes he has a chance, because the girl is making him think he does, when he doesn't. That is the terrible fate of all the guys who have been friendzoned, not the sex-crazed sense of entitlement you speak of
