Received a tsprof sharpener as a gift, sharpen about two knives now,any advice on how to get a mirror polish?my edges come out cloudy if thats the right term? stones im is what came with the kit.

Greetings brother and thank you 🙏🏻 that means alot! I actually have a entire sharpening playlist full of sharpening tips videos and tutorials! You should check it out, you can learn everything I know for free and at your own pace! Alot of people have told me that those videos really helped them improve their sharpening skills so you can definitely do it! Its all what you put into it, the more knives you sharpen the better you will get and having the guidance to know what to and what not to do will speed that up greatly. Just take your time brother!

Any problems with chipping or micro-chipping? I have different knives in S90V and at a 17 degree angle, cutting food on a cutting board leads to chipping, i.e. the edge can't support the angle. At 20° per side, everything seems to be fine 🤨

I have mine at 15° currently and haven’t had any issues with chipping. I wonder if you maybe had a piece of bur that got torn off and took some of the edge with it. But to answer your question, you shouldn’t have any issues as long as it has a decent heat treatment and edge!

@@BLADESANDFADESOFFICIAL Thanks for your answer! The sharpening was done on a Tormek T8 by a professional grinder, came razor sharp. But after cutting down some Amazon boxes or not even that, cutting sandwiches on a cutting board, dark spots started to appear on the hairline apex of the bevel. Had this on a S110V Spyderco and an S90V Benchmade. I don't know. Maybe I'll increase the angle to 20° per side next time...

@@Barney_Greenway I am a big supporter of trying different things and finding what works best for you! That being said, I don’t think your angle is the problem because I have almost all my knives at 15° and never had any chip recently under regular cutting tasks. Not even my maxamet para 3! If I had to guess, the issue has to be due to something with the sharpening process. In the past I have had edges do that and it was because I either didn’t debur completely or I didn’t completely reprofile and fully apex. You can have a extremely sharp knife that still has a fragile edge if you have a wire edge or if you are not fully apexing and deburing. Thats why I use a sharpie and mark my edge constantly and even after the sharpie is gone, I still inspect visually and by feel just to be sure! I haven’t used the tormek so I don’t have much advice I can offer but Spyderco does a great job heat treating and s90v isn’t a fragile steel so it should take something serious to be taking pieces out of your edge!

@@BLADESANDFADESOFFICIAL Thanks again, I'll try out different things, as secondary edge hardening by factory grinds overcooking the edge also plays a role, you'll basically have to remove all metal that's been cooked by machine grinding at the factory. It's a journey, we'll see 🤞
