So I'm having an issue with a fixed angle k03 pro giving a uniform bevel on both sides of the blade. I have the axicube 2 which is built into the stone holder and I'm within .5 of a degree at the tip on both sides but one side looks like I ground it 3 or 4 degrees more shallow it's confusing me what do you think the issue is?
@Zachariahfml11 сағат бұрын
Not sure if this is a primary bevel issue from the factory where one side is significantly thicker from the centerline of the spine or not but I'd like to resolve this as I'm starting a sharpening service up

@@BLADESANDFADESOFFICIALThank you. I appreciate your quick response (and knowledge). Last question. They now sell the standard kit ($220), and a less expensive ($170) R.P.S.H. kit. I think the more expensive kit contains all diamond plates while the less expensive kit has a variety of standard and diamond stones. I'm not sure which way to go (although I was leaning towards the all-diamond kit). 99% of my sharpening will be folding knives(Benchmade, Buck, Spyderco) with 1% kitchen knives and the occasional Esee 3 or 4 sized blade. Thanks again!

I'm using the standard milled clamps that came with my K03. I also use the "L" brackets that allow the clamps to be flush against each other and be centered on the sharpener. Very solid setup. This single clamp is very popular with TSPROF users but I don't see that I need it? Love your channel.
@BLADESANDFADESOFFICIAL3 күн бұрын
@@fredstephens6737 thank you! And I use the standard clamps as well depending on the blade grind. The standard clamps need a flat area to get a solid clamp so I use them when I can but for blades with full flat grinds (which aren’t actually flat lol they taper down in thickness from the spine all the way to the edge) they require a clamp that the angle the jaws contact the blade to get a solid clamp on them. You can sometimes make due with the standard clamps but they arent ideal for everything. Still great for knives that they work with though and the single beefy 4mm hex is definitely more convenient!

You must be new here, go check my most recent videos 😉 And btw, KME is a excellent system and has plenty of advantages over Tsprof. Ive had the Kadet pro for over a year now, sharpened hundreds of knives on it, and actually still recommend the KME over it for 99.9% of people. I’ve made thousands of dollars sharpening knives on the Tsprof kadet pro and have around a thousand in to the system after the clamps and stones and although its nice I still have a hard time justifying the price and im someone who has made money with it. 🤷🏻♂️

I took the tip of my finger off absentmindedly flicking a Shaman a few years ago, ER visit and everything. That finger tip is and will always be numb. I enjoyed the review. I'll definitely check out more of your content. I'm finally going to get my hands on an almost full sized AD20 (it's a machine ground slim) in Magnacut if the wait doesn't kill me. I'm okay with the price of the production model and if I had the disposable income I'd probably pick up a custom hand ground version. Maybe when I get it in hand I'll change my mind but I've been carrying the textured titanium AD20.5 for about a year now almost daily. It's that or a Shaman. P.S. That blade is sweet but I hate the scales on that particular custom. It looks like they let a ten-year-old play with a Dremel.

@BLADESANDFADESOFFICIAL15 күн бұрын
I personally prefer the Shaman over this. I like the ergonomics, size, action, how it carries, more blade steel options and the performance attributed to them. The manix xl is a great knife objectively and performs great. I don’t carry it much but I also can’t bring myself to let go of it so 🤷🏻♂️

Got a tanto Umnumzaan and would love to polish up that tanto tip… from what I can tell there’s a tiny bevel on that tip from the factory… any advice for the degree for that tiny bevel in addition to the degree for polishing that tip? I’ve got the wicked edge system with diamond stones along with strops at various microns… thanks for this video… glad I found your channel! Grace and peace from Atlanta!
@BLADESANDFADESOFFICIAL21 күн бұрын
Hey brother, I don’t believe the tanto tip has a “small” bevel factory because I compared it to pictures of the factory profile but im sure it’s atleast a little larger after I sharpened it. Also the Umnumzan has a convex edge from the factory and this is V grind which will cause it to look different also. As far as convex sharpening goes I can’t offer you any advice unfortunately because I don’t really mess with it. And for the wicked edge system, I have no experience with it so as much as id love to help.. I honestly don’t know. All I can say is mark the edge with a sharpie, start higher and make a test pass and adjust the angle accordingly to match the factory angle. Besides that I can also tell you the angle is going to be lower then you would think because of the blade being hollow ground and thinner behind the edge. Therefore lower angles might not make a huge edge bevel depending on the thickness behind the edge.

@BLADESANDFADESOFFICIAL21 күн бұрын
Hell yeah, that’s the only way to go if you do alot of cutting! I understand the point of the sharpening choil and they are super easy to add but the pros don’t outweigh the cons. Makes it easier to sharpen but creates a spot for material to snag and get caught… to me it’s a nuisance and makes me really not enjoy cutting with the knife!

Also iv spent over two-three hours re-profiling one side to 18’ I’m using the 50 grit and it just feels like it’s skating over the blade. I’ll add that I clean it regularly. Use almost no pressure due to the blade not being able to lock down properly.

How long did it take you to reprofile the shaman? Good tips.
@BLADESANDFADESOFFICIAL24 күн бұрын
Too long 😂 lol but idk since I have worked on it on and off but if I had to guess it was over an hour. Not all of that time was to get it apexed though. It took awhile to apex but I spent a good amount of time refining the profile and trying to get everything as even and symmetrical as possible. I never rush through a sharpening job, especially not when reprofiling because thats the foundation and you can’t get a solid edge with a poor foundation!

I live in Europe in one of the more developed regions of a poor member of the European Union. I often talked with tourists from all over Europe and the world in tourist camps, with local hunters and with foreigners at various working dog competitions. I am engaged in fishing and cycling and kayaking, I have also worked in marinas and in hotels where there were many rich guests, personally, I have been riding motorcycles for a long time and I hang out with owners of old timer vehicles, but I very rarely come across owners of spyderco knives, except for a few who mentioned that they have them at home. The only time I had it in my hand was when it was offered to me as a gift, and it was a dented, quite old and rare copy, but I chose something else for the very reason that it seemed too gentle for a brute like me. My question would be, do you often get more expensive copies which the owners usefully use on a daily basis or are only collector's items. I agree with the sharpening method all the way. No jamming. Thank you, greetings from Croatia.

Very cool to have you here all the way from Croatia 🇭🇷! I actually have been to your country once on vacation while I was on a Mediterranean cruise, very beautiful place! To answer your question, I have sharpening customers on both sides of the spectrum, it’s probably 75% use 25% just collect. And I actually have had quite a few people send me multiple of the same knife model to sharpen. I am a huge Spyderco fan and in online Spyderco groups so that’s why I get alot of them in for sharpening. They are some of the best user knives money can buy! 👊🏼😁

I see you really did your research. Thanks for informing me. If not for you I would have never known that! Now that I got my sarcasm out or my system. The 2 can 100% coexist, it just takes alot more skill. It’s relatively easy to get a edge shiny or sharp. I didn’t record all of the details about hundreds of sharpenings in a log including their progressions, finish and sharpness to find what works the best just for fun. I have a long list of customers who have told me the edges I did for them were the sharpest they have ever experienced. In fact there aren’t many who haven’t said that and it’s something I put in a ridiculous amount of work to achieve.

Yeah, like I said in the beginning most of them are fine and sharpen very easy but there’s a percentage of them that end up with burnt edges from the factory which leads to lots of people having bad experiences and misconceptions about it.
