The whites are plainly jealous of India’s achievements. It’s their true nature. They simply can’t take it when a country like India achieves things tht they have not achieved yet. India wd hv achieved much more by now if Great Britain had not invaded n colonized it for 200-300 years. The British were thieves. They looted India for years n years n sent back the loot to Britain. The crown n jewels are still in England. Have you no shame Great Britain???????? Return the loot back to India !!!!!! Frankly I personally feel Indian brains are superior to white brains. The future achievements of India are further going to shock the Western world. Stop being childish and immature. You make yrself the laughing stock in the world !!!

With all due respect to rick, I don't think his opinion holds a lot of weight when it comes to believing what INDIANS can find racist or not racist, because his lived experience as a white man is different from people of color. I still hold his views in high regard but it is the same as expecting a man to find what is misogynistic. During my travels in the US, there have been so many things people have done that aren't outright racism but still make me FEEL like I don't belong there. You can't call it out because the people who do it are cunning enough to never cross the line and be clearly racist, but they always make you feel inferior or insecure in some way or the other.

The reason we're mad about the west as a whole for the comments made by a few is because most of the those who made these comments are people who are either representing a community or the western media or the politicians elected by the people. They tend forget that whatever they say could have a huge influence on the people who follow them. So it's important that they get their facts straight. I'm a graphic designer. If you ask me, talking about the complex actual meaning about a design, or an artwork is pointless if a simple look at it has another obvious meaning. For example, if I draw many lines, curves and circles on a black board in a classroom full of kids and it ends up resembling a naked woman's body at first glance, is it ok that I say, "Oh that's not how you should look at it... break it down and look at the geometric shapes" or something? No! Cartoons are not even supposed to be "Complex artworks". There is no point in looking at a cartoon's deep inner meanings if one good look at it gives the exact opposite idea...
@EagleOverTheSea

@gouthamkrishna7574
@gouthamkrishna7574 Жыл бұрын
@@EagleOverTheSeaInterpretations are only subective to complex arts bro. A cartoon is not something that should be analysed 3 hours and broken down to understand. If I draw a flower, it's art. But there maybe many other interpeetations to it. Geometry, beauty, nature and all are coined to it. But at first glance it's a flower. We look for complex meanings in complex arts only. Not in cartoons...
@AriaIsara
@AriaIsara Жыл бұрын
A cartoon can be ironic and have a 2nd level of reading, but there isn't one here and if there is Rick has not explained it. He just claimed the meaning was something else without pointing out which elements of the drawing made him say so. For example, the Indian man could have been drawn with a winning smile and the elite members making dumb faces, and it would have showed who was actually mocked. Here there just isn't any details that imply satire...

I think its just a recurring thing. Rick just makes up his mind in the first few seconds of a video, and then its clearly visible on his face that he isn't able to get over that. The thumb rule of a joke / satire / comment / observation is that the subject of it should be comfortable with it. Its that simple. If a cartoon is made showing India as a probably impoverished guy with a cow, knocking at the door of "Elite space club", you cannot decide if its a "satire" or not racist. Its on / against us. You dont have to agree with something, but be freaking open to a video and what its trying to say before making up your mind on one point at the beginning of a video And irrespective of my views on the news channel, the anchor (both, I don't like)...this video just points out straight facts. Sometimes we just have to acknowledge facts, and question the ridiculousness that these statements were made without taking a random stance. Whenever an incident happens in any country, or a leader / famous personality of a nation makes any ridiculous statement, the news always gets reported with the tag of that country / region, and not just that particular person. When something happens in India, and a lot happens here, the news reported is always with the tag of India, which drives the perception of the country as a whole, and not just an individual. Would this video have made more sense if it said British instead of the west? Yes. But, one could say the same that it was just a couple of British influencers not the entire country. And there's also that condescending cartoon which was from NY Times.

Is it racist to point out paradox of a dirt poor country having space aspirations?
@Tech-speaker
@Tech-speaker Жыл бұрын
As a satirist I can say you have no effing idea what satire even means. The thumb rule of satire is that the person/institution/entity/community in question should be comfortable with the satirical remark? Which planet are you from? The entire effing purpose of satire is to mercilessly mock and ridicule Authority (god, religion, governments, patriarchy, monarchy, central banks, and even communities when they become oppressive in practice). As a matter of fact satire doesn’t even need to be funny but since most people (especially someone as sensitive as you) would not be able to digest pure satire, satirists attempt to introduce humour into the script to reach a wider audience and make it slightly palatable to the masses. But that in no way means that the thumb rule of satire becomes ensuring people are comfortable and their feelings are not hurt. With respect to the NYC cartoon I agree it is in very poor taste (western elitism at play) to show India as a poor peasant with a cow knocking on the doors of “civilised society with scientific temper”. The satirist clearly missed the mark on this one because they have preconceived notions of India. If they were better informed they could have drawn the same cartoon with the same fat western elites but represented India with maybe a guy in traditional Indian clothes knocking at the door with a miniature rocket in hand or a jetpack on his back (and no cows). So yeah satirists miss the mark sometimes but the purpose of satire is to punch above its weight and with no regard whatsoever for feelings of the target (or the target audience). The intent of this cartoon was to mock and ridicule the rich fat western elites sitting inside not India or Indians but like I explained they clearly messed it up with a terrible representation of the Indian with a cow (which represents India). If most of society were smarter than you I would be pursuing my passion (satire) full time but I am a part time satirist because of fellow Indians like you. You believe satirists shud keep people’s feelings in mind while creating their stories. From Voltaire to South Park all of us satirists have been subject to weak minds like yours whose feelings get in the way of progress (the desired outcome of every well made satirical piece). Hopefully one day we will live in an India where satirists mocking Authority is welcomed and appreciated without being told how people’s feelings and comfort are paramount.

Hey Rick, I completely agree, YOU DID NOT UNDERSTAND that cartoon. That room/area is supposedly NASA/ESA, a lowly common Indian man, who knows the jobs of only snake charming, managing cattle herds, took one of his cows, knocking at the door of this NASA/ESA begging. Those begging days were LOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNGGGGGGGG gone. MAGA DJT, as the President of USA was so jealous at the crowd gathering for Modi Ji in Houston TX on *HOWDY MODI* event. Biden runs to Modi Ji for an autograph (he himself said so, these are not my words). Blinken said what Jaishankar Ji does is for HIS INDIA, we have nothing to say BUT TO ABIDE BY IT. When questioned by Euro Reporter, why India is buying so much oil from Russia which is enabling the war against Ukraine. Jaishankar Ji replied: *Europe buys the same from Russia, the quantity is whatever India does in one month, Europe does it in a DAY, that money is completely safeguarded by Russia and not to use it against them* See the hypocrisy here? The white house came in line behind India and does not utter any nonsense anymore. USA needs India, for that matter, Europe needs India more than India needs them. The creator thought India would do what the cartoon depicted, but that cow kicked the door so hard, those so called elites got shit scared and ran away as a reflex. Now they are ready to come to India to pray that same cow, even ready to drink that holy cow's urine if need be. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Soon those stereotypical imbeciles come to terms with it, IT IS BETTER FOR THEM

A political satire doesn't need context. There is simply no 2nd level of reading in that cartoon. And checking up the context is good, just to be sure, but the immediate reaction should be that the cartoon is indeed offensive and in no way ironic or satirical. Then you can look it up to know more. But Rick's first reaction was that the cartoon is good and the hidden meaning is to say the west is elitist lol that's not how satire works. It doesn't have "hidden meanings". It has very specific elements in the drawing showing you what it wants to say. It's 2nd level not hidden. And Rick failed at pointing anything in the cartoon indicating that it was the west being mocked and not India.

But still no one can deny that their way of representing it was wrong!! which is very cheap and shameful for any newspaper agency!!! ) The New York Times newspaper has apologised for a cartoon on India's Mars Mission following readers' complaints that it mocked India. The cartoon showed a farmer with a cow knocking at the door of a room marked Elite Space Club where two men sit reading a newspaper on India's feat. The cartoon was carried with an article titled India’s Budget Mission to Mars. Last month, India successfully put the Mangalyaan robotic probe into orbit around Mars. The total cost of the Indian mission was put at 4.5bn rupees ($74m; £45m), which makes it one of the cheapest interplanetary space missions ever. Only the US, Russia and Europe have previously sent missions to Mars, and India succeeded in its first attempt - an achievement that eluded even the Americans and the Soviets. Andrew Rosenthal, editorial page editor of the New York Times, wrote in a Facebook post that a "large number of readers" had complained about the cartoon. "The intent of the cartoonist, Heng Kim Song, was to highlight how space exploration is no longer the exclusive domain of rich, Western countries," Mr Rosenthal said. "Mr Heng, who is based in Singapore, uses images and text - often in a provocative way - to make observations about international affairs. We apologise to readers who were offended by the choice of images in this cartoon." Mr Rosenthal said Mr Heng "was in no way trying to impugn India, its government or its citizens".

I agree that the depiction of cartoon shouldn't be taken by face value. But representing Indian with COW is something stereotypic. Well nobody tries to validate the intention of the artist, but the message it depicts. One such example is Prakash Raj's tweet. Sarcasm has two sides. One more thing about generalizing the point west has. Check the official statements given by different countries, including Russia they just congratulated and didn't talk about how India is the first country to do the feat. Also look at Chinas statement they don't congratulate. And more thing, even with such a vast population and freedom of speech indian media Or people doesn't talk about West capabilities unless they point fingers at us. Then @rick why West keeps judging India at every point. Also did anyone from West comdemn these statements.. No.. You won't believe that some people in UK still thinks they did favor by ruling India.
