In one sense I can understand how it would seem to be absolving some responsibility (although I would dispute the phrase "lets them off the hook" as too strong). On the other hand, I personally still would have no problem calling someone like this a stupid idiot, given that their biases are so rooted in (often wilful) ignorance, denial, and closedmindness. Perhaps fool/foolish is a more fitting "term of endearment" for someone like this who revels in their ignorance and laziness and uses manipulation to misrepresent an argument - although I do think it can seem rather toothless.

James B. Russell This is pretty humorous. So you're saying TJ shouldn't be taken seriously, and then just to make sure to cover all the bases, you say he should be taken seriously. Let's ignore that you think there are Africans who actually say "she eat-a da poo poo." Let's ignore all the times TJ completely misconstrued Milo's argument. Let's ignore how nonsensical his points are. If he wanted to be nuanced with the idea that certain African groups displayed such behavior (and let's be honest, as a fan of TJ's old work, that's a pretty big stretch) then why did he clearly just google "african men" and take one of the first things he saw? Why did he take a picture from a video about stereotypes of African men? Why did he then portray a stereotypical African man? Let's be real, TJ didn't fucking care. He didn't try to be nuanced. He didn't do any research into his argument. He just went off of how he felt and you're just excusing him because he's validating what you feel (I'm assuming, I hope I'm wrong) and it's lazy and disingenuous.

Expecting a man in his thirties to act with more maturity than a 17-year-old isn't ageism. I suppose you also think it's "ageism" if I expect that man in his thirties to doo-doo in the potty rather than his pants. Of course the irony here is that the full-grown man who makes his living off of his reputation as a thinker acted with far less maturity and wisdom than the 17-year-old did. Maybe I actually should be surprised if the Amazing Atheist knows how to shit in a toilet.

Ok, TJ, let's talk about Transsexuality in the middle-east (and some surrounding countries for good measure): *Iran: There were not any legal restrictions against trans-people before the revolution, and while it was illegal for a short while afterwards, it was re-legalized in the mid-80's for trans-people to both have sex reassignment surgery and to live as their gender before surgery. Surgery is partially covered by government health-care and Iran carries out the second most amount of such surgeries in the world (after Thailand). (Although there is some discrimination against those who do not want surgery, but still wants their gender recognized.) *Oman (and some other parts of the Arabian peninsula): Has the traditional concept of Khanith, which, although considered a third gender there, matches the western concept of a transwoman. *Egypt: Had the concept of Khawal up until the nineteenth century, who were either transwomen or constant male transvestites, working as female-dancers. They became less accepted due to Western influence and were eventually shunned completely under imperialism. The word is now used as a homophobic slur. *Turkey: Had the similar concept of Köçek, who were known to also have been considered female in sexual matters (with the Khawal it's a bit more unclear). As a side note the Ottoman Empire made all consensual homosexual activity explicitly legal in all of it's territories in 1858, and it was only made illegal in most of these after they were conquered by western imperialists. Turkey also had the first openly transgender celebrity in modern history, Bulent Ersoy who came out in the 70's, and has not had crackdowns or widespread, public discrimination against homosexuality and transsexuality until recently (mainly under Erdoğan). *Afghanistan and Pakistan: Has the traditional concept of Bacha posh, in which someone born as a girl can be cultural accepted as a boy, which is encouraged in families with no male children. Although they are often, but not always, expected to revert back to be women once they become adults. Pakistan also officially recognizes khwaja sara (see my notes on Hijra bellow) as a "third gender" and has had it as an option on national ID cards since 2009. *Albania: Has a somewhat similar concept of Burrnesha, in which someone born a woman chooses to take up all male social-roles and status, but it is permanent and can be done at any age. *Israel: Despite being quite conservative on many, many other issues, Israel has a fairly decent track-record with LGBT rights, but this is common knowledge at this point anyways. Also many South-Asian countries has the traditionally accepted practice of Hijra (also known by a multitude of local terms) which is considered a third gender, but is comparable to the western understanding of transwomen and have practiced sex reassignment surgery since long before the modern era. They faced severe attempts of eradication under western imperialism, but has slowly been regaining their rights. (I was also considering talking about Thailand, Nepal and the Bugis as "surrounding countries", but ultimately decided that I had already made my point.)

@Aplle Aplle the funny thing about this claim is that it’s both intuitively true, misleading and unfalsifiable at the same time. Yes, all humans needed to collect food in various times and places, which obviously included men since why the hell wouldn’t they. However, this fails to imply what you mean to imply - which is that men, and more specifically men as hailed as masculine ideal are the crux of human society and without this concept of men as breadwinner then all humans would have died. It’s especially funny since multiple societies existed for thousands of years without a strict male/female hunter division and indeed many of the early societies you’re referring to would have had some female participation, trading off caregiving for the baby.

I was big into the Atheist skeptic community when I was young, and it was pretty sad because the main reason I got into that community was because a lot of the early skeptic youtubers focused on cutting down religious arguments against things like gay marriage and rights or treating women like property. And as a young gay teen in the mid-2000's content, most of what I could find was in that community. But eventually the ones that stuck around and the newcomers all changed to be antifeminist and anti-lgbt. I hesitantly got into a new atheist youtuber about a month ago and I actually really like him. His name is Mr. Atheist and he's very LGBT and feminist friendly and even uses trans inclusive language. He has a tendency to slip into the angry atheist man yelling at the camera schtick at times, but it's at least usually over stuff like religion being used as an excuse to oppress women and/or lgbt people. I don't agree with him on everything, but it's the first channel of that variety that I've been able to watch in a long time.

Gosh, the amazing atheist... I remember ten years ago, being in the closet and depressed and thinking everything was fake and actually liking the sheer cynicism of the early Atheist community. It felt like that lasted forever but in retrospect I apparently grew out of it a lot faster than others, jumping ship before it really started fusing into the Alt-Right shit. I regarded the amazing atheist as one of the least awful ones, found him funny even. But like South Park, you get wiser and learn to love yourself and grow out of it.

"Geniuses by way of knowing the earth is round" about sums it up. They made early careers for themselves tackling low-hanging fruit, people that would even identify as anti-science (thinking the age of the earth or its roundness is some vast conspiracy), and then tried to branch out and tackle other stuff like everyone was just that easy, that they could just be that dismissive of anyone. I remember never being a fan of Thunderfoot and not hearing much about him until he stopped doing "ooh, science by the way" videos to attack feminists and muslims. Back then a few people actually called him out, but they were called traitors trying to split the "community". I guess that's how it got so insular. Justifying bigotry was taken as-all important as if in the name of "freeze peach" and anyone disrupting that was the outsider. After a decade of that its hardly any wonder the whole thing went where it did...

Tracy Campbell Lol, imagine just coming to terms with how you feel about religion, or your lack of belief anyway, exploring atheism and skepticism for the first time, going on KZbin and finding all these wonderful videos by all these wonderful people/free thinkers and thinking “where have I been all my life?!” Starting to look up to all these people you’ve developed newfound admiration and respect for. But instead of this happening in 2007, it happened in 2015-2016.. lol That was my experience with the KZbin atheist community (as well as Dawkins, Harris, Hitchens, etc.). My enjoyment and reverence of my newfound “heroes” (for lack of a better word) was so short lived. Because that’s seems to be when everyone was starting to lose their shit and become problematic. I’d go to see what other videos they had, and it seemed to be a never ending list of the evils of feminism and these people called “sjws” with something about religion here and there. I subscribed and unsubscribed to a few people in a short span of time lol. It makes me sad. I feel cheated of the Atheist glory days here on KZbin that I keep hearing about. I got in the game wayyy too late lol. Ahh well . I’ve learned, just because someone’s an atheist doesn’t mean they’re always rational. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Dear Shaun: I want to thank you for helping me get myself out of the Anti-SJW rabbit hole. I used to be very much with those guys, but as I grew older, and thought about it, I realized that I was going down a pretty messed up path. Now, I just have my own views. I research true facts about certain subjects, and I let that evidence guide my views. I no longer follow these people's views, unless they make reasonable sense to me. Again, thank you. Funny he mentions "Middle-Eastern society." Some Muslim traditions allow for something like trans people and sex reassignment surgery. I say "like" because their gender concepts don't map strictly onto the typical conceptions of transgender. These people are called mukhannathun, or hijras in Pakistan. It's still restrictive and (from my quick wiki session) seems to be limited to MTF, but it's there and allowed if they conclude the person cannot suppress their "effeminate" urges. So, unsurprisingly, his racist stereotype was an over-simplification.

To be fair, his earlier videos were just him repeating the arguments of actual academics instead of those of alt-rightists, so it makes sense that anyone thought he was credible in as far as knowing his stuff. I mean, he quoted people like Jared Diamond, Hawking, and Krugman to support his arguments instead of making lazy google searches. He even was one of the few who called out Thunderf00t’s insanity when Thunderf00t threatened the genocide of Muslims in a video against Dawafilms. But as he got greedy for more money that the left wasn’t providing, however, that’s when he slowly made the transition from being an intellectual to, well, himself.

@@supremeplatypus7192 You'll find most of the new material on the Deep Fat Fried channel nowadays instead, the Onion Nuggetz segments are the ones with more political content. He was always left wing, up until 2016 or so he went mostly after Republicans/Christian conservatives, but he also unintentionally started the anti SJW movement in 2011 and realised he could attract a larger audience that way and fell more into that rabbit hole as seen in this video, but then he more or less realised the damage it was doing with the rise of Trump and how the anti SJW content was basically working as a gateway to the alt right and therefore stopped doing that kind of content. He's still an edge lord in many ways and holds on to his views on SJWs/prudes wanting to censor art but doesn't consider it a priority considering how that kind of content has been used. I recommend watching his videos "TJ on [x]" from about 2 years ago where he further explains his views. Edit: His talks with Vaush are great too.

I have to point out that the fact that he edited Milo’s body to be that of a presumably female model posing in a bikini is very fucked up. He not only invalidated Milo’s identity and misgendered them, but he made sure to bring attention to the idea that Milo is afab (assigned female at birth). but not even that, he wanted to to be BLATANTLY obvious by having the woman wear a bikini specifically.. as an afab non-binary person myself, who does experience some dysphoria, the thought of someone editing me in this was is incredibly upsetting to me. like i cant overstate just how uncomfortable that would be…
