The song is a cover of Suzanne Vega's Tom's Diner (1987). This is a collaboration of two German bands: In the first room AnnenMayKantereit are playing and Henning May (deep raspy voice) is their singer. And in the second room Giant Rooks are playing, Frederik Rabe is their singer. A little later AnnenMayKantereit join them. The guys of AnnenMayKantereit are the older ones.. AMK does mostly German songs, Henning can also sing without that rasp, his voice is amazing, but I like Frederiks voice even more. Giant Rooks do English songs, even though they are Germans as well. One reason why I love Frederiks voice is their cover of Life On Mars (David Bowie): kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZ2seGp3mthqeq8. And my favorite original song of Giant Rooks is Nightingales Of The Walled City: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aqaYoYOwdtZjn5I . It is a live performance because they haven't released it.

Everybody compares him to Louie!! He's not trying or pretending to sound raspy. He sounds like that when he's performing with his own band. Both singers and their separate bands are extremely successful in Europe, and the Rooks band is also very popular in the U.S. 😅😅😂

Recommend "Barfuß am Klavier" the earliest upload recorded outside too. Mybe look up the lyrics to get a glympse of the meaning. And I absolutely love Pocahontas. These are owm songs, no covers and therefore in german. They are creative and the music feels so "real" and natural. Love it

Great reaction video, you were so respectful of the music and allowed it to proceed without a lot of jabbering, which I have found so annoying on other reaction videos of this song...loved watching you reach for the pause button when Henning May started singing...most of us did the same, I think, the first time we heard him. Another recommendation for a reaction video is AnnenMayKantereit and Milky Chance's cover of Roxanne (it is dynamite, even better than the original by the Police, in my opinion). Seriously though, I haven't found anything by AMK that I don't like, just wish I spoke German so I could enjoy more of the songs they do in their native tongue.

Henning May is the deeper raspy voice. This song is awesome, I've been rocking it for a couple years now and it never gets old. Esp watching reaction vids like this. Luvs it♡

Believe me, we all had the same reaction hearing that voice come from his body. My eyes were as big as my head. The 1st guy is awesome, too. Unique sound. Unique look. But, very young to be sounding like that! What are they? Barely out of their teens?

Henning is born in 1992, Toms Diner was released in 2019. So he was 27 at the time of recording this song. Yep, he looks way younger than 27 in this video.

@@EnnovonSchwerin No. The original song, "Tom's Diner" by Suzanne Vega was released in 1992. The a cappella version was 1987. I'm older. I grew up listening to the 80's and 90's. The guys' cover of this song was released in 2019.

I listened to the original today. I so wish that AnnenMayKantereit and Giant Rooks had done more of the verses. This is a combination of 2 groups AnnenMayKantereit and Giant Rooks. Henning May is the singer in the brown shirt.

I think the 'strain' you see is similar to a woman singing soprano. It's seems out of their range but it's not really. they're comfortable there. And I think you see it more because he's thin.

The first time I heard May’s voice It reminds me of the late 60’ and 70’ with Joe Cocker, Van Morrison, and Leonard Cohen. I think May’s voice is better, but that is what he makes me think of. Rabe voice sounds like it would fit perfectly in with the alternative rock of the 90’s. And again much better. His voice on this is spot on perfect for this cover.

Both bands are absolutely fantastic and especially great live! I think you should also check out Giant Rooks! Especially as a music teacher because they do a lot of very cool things musically! I think you'd appreciate them!
