Saw her for the first time this weekend on the three girls tour and left a Shawn Colvin fan. Emmylou Harris, Patty Griffin, Shawn Colvin and Buddy Miller on the same stage with just their guitars. You can't get more talent than that on one stage at the same time.

This is one of those songs that seems like it was just sitting there for one of the greats (Dylan Mitchell whoever) to grab from the muse and it went through Shawn Colvin. It's a classic timeless song. I really hope she doesn't take another 5 year break between CDs. If the songs are coming this good start pounding them out girl. Dang. Again how much bad or good could you ever say about an artist of this caliber. She's the icon of three post Mitchell generations. Awesome.

Her life experience really shows through in her music. I think she is a brilliant songwriter. I watched her on Oprah, and she talked about how she uses her suffering (she has severe bipolar disorder) to fuel her music. Very inspiring woman.

I simply love her. Shawn is perhaps the most intelligent, talented singer songwriter ever. She molds every intoned syllable with such skill and taste; such a relief from the warbling "Divas" that hog the FM band today.

Loved it! Don't usually like it when they make her up but she looks awesome. Well balanced vocals/guitar. Liked the shot of her nicely turned ankle too...lest we forget...she's a doll too. She is spellbinding. There's no one better in her genre for sure...ever. I think this piece will serve as something of a time capsule.

It is more beautiful than words can easily describe if you are familiar with the body of Shawn's work...the heart of a mature woman, now so settled...in an album about 10 years ago, she described the fear of buying a home, and wrote a song about burning it down it felt so limiting and inprisoning to her. Now, settled in, and facing the passage of time in such a poetic mature way. Right now, only her and Jackson Browne (on "The Naked Ride Home) write songs facing aging in such a mature way.

Hope to meet her someday. :)

@SoundlabStockholm - Very true (always wish people would be more precise in their words). But this is also my favorite type of music with video. I much prefer watching the artist perform his/her songs, and allowing me to imagine and interpret. That is the essense of music. Also... Shawn Colvin is fcking amazing, as is this song.

Such a Beautiful Song.....and the fact that it only reached 109 on the Billboard top 200 singles is such a big travesty!! It's like a vast majority of people don't appreciate good music anymore, and are content with the gimmickry of the Brittneys and Gagas of this world!! Sad part is that such good artists will soon struggle to get funding for their albums in the future if this trend continues.......which is very bad for true music lovers!!

I'm gonna die in these four walls I've had enough and I've tried it all I'll watch the day break and I'll see the night fall In these four walls Show me trouble I'll take him down I drew a line on this patch of ground Everything's safe and everything's sound In these four walls Up on the rooftop I can remember Borders I had to break Now I can see I had this life To make I'm gonna miss your southern drawl A baby's footsteps in an empty hall And every little thing I can ever recall In these four walls Up on the rooftop Feel like you're flying Thinking your heart could break Oh can't you see we had this love To make I'm gonna die in these four walls I've had enough and I've tried it all I'll watch the day break and I'll see the night fall In these four walls

@SoundlabStockholm Can't comment on the Sunny video, cause I haven't seen it. And you may be right, that that piece needs/works with/is more meaningful with the visual component. Having grown up on music that didn't have visual components to them, I am partial to my music that way. But, I will check out the Sunny video with an eager, open mind. Thanks.

Years and years later, the story is mentioned. A young family lived in the neighborhood and were often seen walking around, visiting homes. That young daughter learned to walk, skip and spin to all the neighbors' delight. A drunk driver killed the young mother and daughter early in December, before that Christmas... some presents were already wrapped. Sitting there for all time maybe. Everyone had lost a best friend and their cutest neighbor child. Weeks didn't ease the pain but one neighbor realized they no longer saw the grieving man. People gave him space, gave him time. Some watched from upper windows for any sign of life... only an occasional light behind curtained windows. More neighbors retreated inside, too. They would all realize the losses, and often sat alone in their thoughts inside their walls. Drunk drivers. Bloody hell.

@brucie2909 So, I tought she was more appreciated at least in the USA, (Here in Italy I never met anyone who even knew her, even if some of her songs are, rerely, played on radio or music televisions, or in some movie or tv-serial soundtrack ), but success seems to be related mostly to promotion or how much the singer is a character, a personality, known for things have nothing to do with music as the Brittneys and Gagas do.
