The best of all time... Lane and Holdsworth... one is pure Spirit one is pure Intellect. Both amazing.

I miss my friend. This was My band project that was put together just to do something to get out and play and pay the bills at the time. Still, it was fun.

@@gravitydrums1391 dude ive been looking for this for so long and im glad i found this video of you guys, Shawn's solo at the end of "something about you" is jaw dropping. I can never hear that song the same again without imagining Shawn's ripping solo finishing that off... you guys sounded really good, great cover of that song, i cant find anything that comes close. Wish we had a better video but this is fantastic considering it was filmed in '91.

@@hawk1093Thanks!.. The crazy thing is that Shawn and I were asked to be their Drummer and Guitar player... I was about to tour with a different group.. I chose Poorly....lol

if you're implying Holdsworth was an intellectual player.... He was not. Listen to him enough, especially in interviews, and you'll realize that he was pure emotion and intuition. Of course, he did have intellectual knowledge of music theory (simply as a means to an end), but it's one of those "learn and then forget" kind of things. You'll hear him say in clinics all the time when asked about his theoretical approach by music theory nerds: "I don't know, man. I'm just trying to make melodies, I don't know how to explain it...", etc. He was 100% a feeler. All emotion and heart.

@@lex.cordis I can't say I agree with that - if you watch Holdsworth's REH instructional video, he has his own system of theory, and his own scale charts that he utilised, and you could often see him with a music stand when he was playing. I'm all ear/intuition/feel based as a player, but I still admire Holdsworth, even though he had the opposite approach. Lane and Holdsworth are still unrivaled.

I like so much his improvisations, a fckn guitar legend✨
@gravitydrums13912 жыл бұрын
Yes he was. This was my band. SHawn and I played as a duo which landed Him his guitar deal but then at this time we were doing a myriad of different tunes, Some of which He was bored with and some he played Masterfully.

He’s like a fast typist, typing word salad. Nothing meaningful, memorable, just fast legato scales and slurred arpeggiation.
@CesarClouds3 жыл бұрын
@@commanderthorkilj.amundsen3426 You can type very fast and sloppy or very fast and very accurate. Lane was in the latter category but a lot of his music is actually slow; when fast, however, it was like Govan said: Meaningful.
@commanderthorkilj.amundsen34263 жыл бұрын
@@CesarClouds Really? He has no single riff, solo, or song that people carry around in their heads as they go about their day. It’s like a recording made in a machine shop: rivet gun, saws, grinders. Sadly, this is why he will always be relatively unknown. Were it not for KZbin and your mom, only old guys who recall him from BOA would know about him.
@CesarClouds3 жыл бұрын
@@commanderthorkilj.amundsen3426 You seem to confuse meaningful with pop music or are equating them. Whatever the case, Lane was not in the business of popular music. Applying your reasoning to novels you would say the Twilight ones are great literature while Joseph Conrad's are crap.

Chops but meaningless riffs. No melodic or bluesy content. As far as I'm concerned, he's an undeveloped amateur with chops, and potential, but not yet worth listening to. I bet he can't play decent blues!

Lol I'm not sure if are being serious, but if you are then you have no idea who you're talking about. Shawn is an absolute legend who has received respect from some from tons of the greatest guitarists the world over. Guthrie Govan, Buckethead, Paul Gilbert, Andy Timmons, Eric Johnson etc. they all have deep admiration for Shawn. R.I.P.

Well with the best chops ever witnessed sure. He's just playing at a cover band gig at a bar/pub. I think Shawn Lane and Allan Holdsworth were the two greatest guitarists ever known, Lane the off the cuff heroin addict who was untouchable, and Holdsworth the more analytical measured gentleman. Both the greatest guitarists known in my opinion. Guys like Jeff Beck are great in their own respect but Lane and Holdsworth are just on a level that no one can touch. Sure people can play as fast as them, but not intuitively and from the soul.
