I'd also like to add some info for those who are on a BUDGET but would like to wake up your 2jz. You can boost it and not touch the ECU. This is achieved by getting a turbo kit and intercooler kit. Drill and tap the oil feed return line on the oil pan. And running a LOW 5 psi spring in your wastegate. It will run perfectly no issues just make sure you DO NOT go over 6 psi or else you will lean out and fuck up your engine! The ECU does not know what to do with boost past 6PSI so please keep this in mind when doing this! Remember this is for people who want to boost and wake up the 2jz and also do it on a budget! It will serve you well for a long time until you are ready to Upgrade the ECU and headgasket and rods once you get your money up. If you have any questions comment and I'll answer as best I can. Happy boosting!

Very helpful video. But one thing to mention, there is another option for those non-vvti guys like myself. You can do a budget build with the TT ecu mod and keep the distributor for the crank sensor and convert to vvti coils as well. Good for 400-500 hp depending what injector size on the stock 2JZ GTE non vvti TT ecu.

Nice video. btw Is there any info out there about whether you can convert a 1JZ GE vvti into turbo build? For example does the 1JZ GE vvti block have oil jets for the pistons? There seems to be very little information about converting 1JZ GE into NAT (of course using lower compression pistons and beefy rods etc that should be common knowledge but other details are hard to find)

I have a gs300 with a 2JZ GE VVTI. I want to upgrade my rods with maxspeeding h beam rods, but I'm thinking about reusing the GE pistons. I'm planning on running mainly pump E85 and 93 if I'm not near a e85 pump. I know that will help with detonation issues that come with turboing a high compression engine. How do yall feel about that? I was even thinking about doing stock replacement GTE pistons from DNJ with the maxspeeding rods but still at the drawing board would love your opinion @RabidJz

For vvti, should I spend the extra 3 to 4 grand on upgrading the pistons, piston rods etc, all Brian Crower ofc, because I read some forums that it's to high of compression (roughly 11:1) and the sweet spot is abt 8.6:1
@RabidJz

Na-t is 10:1 and 8.6:1 compression is early 2000s energy. It's normal to run 10:1 or higher on boosted applications.

The bottom line is, can you have good success with a simple Turbo kit at waste gate running 7 psi. Stock everything, including computer. I understand some people have actually had great success running a simple 300 horsepower from this and the only reason they set up blew up was because they kept upping the waste gate without proper management. Do you yourself think this is feasible though?

No hate at all super cool build wish I knew what you did thus why I’m watching the video. I was figuring it would be a cheaper option for me to boost my 98 gs300 but after what you have said why not just buy a gte? Mine being a 98 it is practically plug and play wiring etc. but for cost it seems I could get everything I needed for around 4K. I know a stock gte isn’t running 35lbs of boost but I was just wondering thank you.
@RabidJz
@RabidJz 4 жыл бұрын
Mine is a 240, not a gs300. So in that case, you're saving even more money. The difference is, you're paying 3k for the engine just to pay 1k-2k swapping the manifold and adding a big turbo. A stock gte will have no issues making the power I make, but neither would a stock non vvti ge. This video was the cheapest way to get to the goal. When you swap the block, you keep the head, INCLUDING, your harness. It remains pnp. All that extra money you'd spend on the gte you can spend on mods. 500 for a junkyard bottom 1-2k for turbo/mani setup 600 for injectors Right there's is the cost of just a gte.

2jz noobie here I have a toyota S-Runner and I'd like to do a 2jz swap. My local pull a part has about 5 ge engines in stock at $300 a piece... I'd like about 5-600 Hp it's a weekender. I was planning on a ge with pistons rings rods bearings head gasket arp head studs but at that point I'll probably be 3k into it... should I just get a gte and not worry about it?

Just make sure the GE engines are non vvti The older models are non vvti If they’re non vvti, you don’t have to swap out rods or pistons, they’re plenty strong for what you’re aiming for. That make sense?

The Rabid Rb did you just run a braided hose from your sandwich plate to the vvti ocv. I read that the vvti block banjo bolt has a check valve in it and now I’m thinking there’s more strategy to it than that. Any help would be awesome thanks bud!

The Rabid Rb hell yeah that’s easy enough. Everyone on the forums were fabbing up lines to work with the oem banjo like it was super important. I just rebuilt a non vvti block and was going over everything today to make sure I’m not forgetting things and it freaked me out reading that lol. You happen to remember what pitch you got on the hose fittings. Hoping it’s not 2 different thread pitches I need on one hose.

I did this on an n/a 2J. It's in my 74 260Z. I bolted a trigger wheel to my balancer. I used a 1jz balancer. Made a bracket and have a crank sensor mounted to it. Mega squirt 2 ECU. I removed a threaded block on the left side of the block and threaded a fitting in it for my oil feed line. Used the stock JZ fuel rail. Cut off the pressure regulator and mounted an aftermarket one on the fender. Ford ranger ignitor. Dodge caravan coil pack.

Ok so the only thing I can tell he was wrong about. You do not need a return style fuel system to boost a car, you will create so much more work for yourself, I've seen guys running 600 hp off of the stock fuel rails what you will need is larger injectors to accommodate additional pressure. Now if you're aiming for 1000 hp yes you'll need a return fuel system setup. Also his swap is based around a standalone keep that in mind
@RabidJz
@RabidJz 4 жыл бұрын
I suggest a return line for a proper fuel system. Fuel is the bloodline of your engine. Just because there's ways to do it with the stock rail doesn't mean you should. There's a reason gtes have return lines.
