If I had the ability, I would help you move. At some time we have all dealt with nasty neighbors. It’s not pleasant. Not clear if your disassembling cabin or other out buildings, but those structures are great resources for new location. Set wishes to you and your family and friends. Stay safe.

Is that what it is? Maybe just like so many things there r two sides to a story and while it probably is jealousy it seems as if him bringing in the construction equipment was a starting point and since he did that they retaliated by putting the road as close to him as possible….. people aren’t as bad as everyone thinks unless there r reasons…. But if a person is successful in an endeavor and keeps that success for themselves instead of helping their neighbors, well jealousy and envy are bound to become prevalent…. And hopefully he learns from this and either chooses land even more remote or becomes a better neighbor if only to prevent things like this from happening again

Also jealousy and envy are such negative emotions, I would not waste my time dealing with anyone who is driven by them. I understand that Shawn is dedicated and probably single minded in pursuing his dreams, however he is not an unreasonable person, and while he may not have been aware of any adverse impact he may have made, surely dialogue is a far better option than aggravation, only a moron would expect to gain in that scenario.

@@wrazzle9740 To be clear by no means does he HAVE to do anything BUT in a small community where people are living far away from modern lifestyles a person generating a decent income and creating disturbances is going to create friction… if you don’t proactively attempt to mitigate the friction in some way, such as offering the use of the equipment in some small way to compensate his neighbors for the disturbance, people are going to take issue and if you think people who want to be away from the noise and are willing to live roughly will quietly let shit happen to them like some big city cog well we can see what the results are. They are a community if only because of proximity and being a good neighbor doesn’t just mean sharing a cup of sugar or staying off their property, it especially doesn’t mean that since there are no permits you can expect your neighbors to permit you to irritate them! While I enjoy his vlogs you can tell he still has a big city and cutthroat buisness mentality that doesn’t take into account the consequences of his actions and he ESPECIALLY didn’t take into account the intelligence of his neighbors! They fucked him over in a manner that would have the most effect and essentially wasted all his hard work and forcing him to move. Look at history, the Irish and Scots hold grudges FOREVER and in the old days blood might have been spilt but instead they cleverly and quietly used the government to screw him over. Hopefully this wasn’t how his buisness failed because that would mean he didn’t learn his lesson the first time, so hopefully he won’t make the same mistakes again and have a hole new set of challenges to overcome.

Some neighbours are inconsiderate, enjoy trying claim dominance and cause disruptions for other people. I have one myself, verbal abuse, threatening, trespassing on my property and vandalise my car, and the last thing was a death threat and it’s going to court. I’m totally with you Shawn. I can also relate due to past and present. After many trying/life changing issues I can say there is a reason for everything. We can guide our future only so much! I have to say (from the small amount I know and have seen) is Shawn, you are a much better/stronger human than I. You are making great decisions and will end up proud! Shawn. I've also had experience of difficult people in small communities. Our crazy mixed up society seem to have an alarming number of damaged individuals with mental health problems who negatively impact the lives of those in proximity to them. It can only be the green eyed monster. The people doing the harassing have most likely tried to start their own YT channel and it has been a total failure. Then they found out that their neighbour has a very successful channel and they've literally spat the dummy right out. They're deliberately trying to sabotage his YT videos - why else would they do such a thing? People generally speaking don't go out of their way to cause trouble unless they perceive some type of threat. Even with people you don't like - for whatever reason - you don't go looking to cause trouble. People generally are happy to live and let live and when this is not the case it's because of some personal issue that they have often just made up in their own mind. Some people are just not happy that others can get on with their lives and not need anything from them - it means they can't impose themselves on people that don't need them. Some people are only happy when they're imposing their will on others. EVERYONE knows people like this - they start out as the school bully and never stop until they get put in their place.

Boy do I feel your pain. My bad neighbor worked for the police department. I was just starting a new life with my 2 girls and had ended up moving far from my roots and buying my first house on my own. I was excited, happy and proud, and In less than a year of the new neighbor moving in, I found myself listing my house for sale. I had cops banging on my door 7 days a week in the end. Just because this neighbor could do it. Why? I still don't know. I was hard working and commuting into Toronto everyday from Beamsville ON. I took my mother in to help with minding the kids and we kept to ourselves, mostly due to the fact that I was working long hours to provide for everyone. I did however find a place where I was welcomed in another town and have lived here for 22 years. Now that the kids are grown and off living their best lives, I have been taking a serious look at my dreams and what my best life would look like. I can only hope to do something along the lines of what you are doing right now. As wonderful as my neighbors are here, I love nature more than the average person. I am an artist, and spend a lot of time outdoors sitting quietly in the woods with my camera looking for inspiration. I'd choose animals over people any day of the week. Life has prepared me for solitary living and I can't imagine it any other way, other than being closer to nature and further away from "civilization" because the times have just brought things to a whole new level of crazy that I don't wish to be a part of. Don't give up, keep chasing your dream. Take what you've learned and live your best life in spite of the sad, miserable individuals you've met along the way, it will get better.

My hubby and I have watched your other channel (MSR) for about a year or so and never once realized the nonsense that you were having to deal with just to enjoy the solitude, peace & quiet. We also never knew about this channel (which I appreciate if I/we want to know more info about how/why you were doing something specifically - so thank you for this :) ) We have been binge-watching everything we can get our hands on over this past couple of weeks as it has been uplifting and inspiring for our own lives. I chose to move to the mountains for the same reason as you. Solitude snd nature. I do have some neighbors but mostly everyone here leaves everyone else alone. Except I wrongly placed my cabin thinking it wouldn't be an issue and am now building another cabin on the smack in the middle of my property between 2 beautiful valleys just to get rhe full privacy I desire. I hated the idea of starting over at first but now see it as an adventure. And I am learning soooo much watching you so that helps! 😁 People suck and I'm sorry you are going through this but I am excited to watch along on your new adventure. Best of luck to you. Maybe it would be of benefit if the guy attacked him, his family or tried to actually break into one of his buildings. But a firearm (in this situation) is not meant to threaten ppl but to act in self defense (or that of others) of your life or extreme bodily damage. I must say, the choice of leaving was James & his families. I'm sure James could have stayed despite the childish antics of these ppl. James seems perfectly able to address any issues that might have escalated. But there were many other reasons to leave this particular sight (if you actually listened to this video), none of which had to do w/ violence or threat to life. I pray that you learn from this and that you don't mislead others in mistaken information.

Sorry to piggyback of your reply, but There is no place for me to respond to Shawn. As always you need to finish each project first before you start another. You have lost all that time and effort by jumping from one thing to another.I speak because I did things similar. If your going to move then move. Find and research the most remote place you can. Then consider the topography first then proceed with one project at a time. Shawn you are not getting any younger and every time you change your mind that is lost time and efforts. I sold my dream property for the same reasons as you. Encroachment of outsiders, some that resented a flatlander like me moving out of the city to have a dream in the rural areas. They trespassed and stole items. They would maliciously ruin what ever I started. My complaints to the local part-time authorities were wasted because they were rarely on duty. SO eventually they wore me down and I sold it and moved back to original home. I am sorry you are going through this and I truly understand your frustration. But consider this, if they drive you out then they have won. Sometimes you must be as devious as they are and make them feel the pain of the daggers they stick in others. Only when they are confronted face to face do they cower like the scum they are. In my case I was too old to continue the fight and I did lose and they won. Good for them. When I left I made sure to sell it to another flatlander maybe they will fare better then me. But as I left I knew I had changed their homestead as well. They will never have the peace they craved by moving to where they are anymore either. So in a way I have won a tiny victory. I could have been their best friend and neighbor but they chose to fight and I chose to leave. 20 years or so ago , this story would have been completely different. I wish you luck, and perseverance. But the last thing I will write is finish one project before moving to the other.

Take apart all your buildings, and move them to the new site. Bad neighbor or his friends might use the buildings if you leave them. So sorry. This happened to me also. I am a woman, and the man and his 3 sons made it very scary. I had to leave to be safe.
