Today at work I was talking to a coworker about how cool it would be to live in cabin in the middle of nowhere. My coworker said, “There’s this dude on KZbin who has a golden retriever and uses old tools and built this awesome cabin.” I replied, “My Self Reliance Sean James!?l” He replied, “Whoa dude you watch him to!?” ..... Needless to say we are good pals now and talked about MSR!

I’m starting to get it. Anything you do takes 3, 4 times longer because you’re filming it. It takes time to plan and set up the camera to capture whatever you’re doing at any one time. Then pause, reset the camera to film the next sequence. What gets me, is that you have to walk ahead to position the camera, then walk back to start walking toward it. Also a lot of creativity goes into capturing the views you want and then more creativity in editing it to give the viewers the end product. You’re a hands-on person, but artistic as well. Kudos. I'm learning a lot about bushcraft as well. Thank you.

Most paints these days come in plastic gal. cans instead of metal ones so if you find some metal ones, keep them to use on your fire. The plastic ones can be used for container gardening closer to the cabin. Maybe you could tell KZbin that when someone "likes" a video it's so the maker knows the video is enjoyed & he's doing a great job - I don't want to keep them as I use a tablet to view them. Found litterly hundreds of videos that I "liked" by accident & had to remove them individually & I know I hadn't put to save them. I always enjoy your videos.

Youll be surprised what you can do with local plants and tree barks. Back than native americans would use plants and herbs not just for cooking but also for medicinal uses. theres a tree bark that was used as a pain reliever which a local pain medicine was made. Also peniciline was found in a type of mold. So youd be surprised what plants can do for people if we only had the opportunity to learn

any bark will produce tar ... birch just gives more and so does pine ... mind you birch bark gives less than birch logs ... the Swedish have a few video's up on making birch tar ... real simple and loads of tar without wasting the bark ...

@@alidahall8726 willow bark is the pain reliever and bread mold is what penecilin is made from ... also willow bark and branches make excellent rooting water when allowed to steep in warm water all day long ... tbh nature has a remedy for everything including cancer ... big pharma just doesnt make money on it so it doesnt get promoted as much as their poor man made substitutes that tend to be more harmful than the ailment . and yes Cancer is cured by weed ... and has been known to do that since back in the 50's and 60's ... berkley and mit and a few other big universities proved it then big pharma had it scheduled because they couldnt make money off of a natural plant that grows to maturity in 3 months

My grandmother canned meat. It made it very tender and she used it in stews, soups added it to gravy. I would also use it for tacos in salads or in a hotdish of sorts with potatoes and vegetables. I believe she just season it with salt and pepper in the jar. I bet you could pressure cook on your new would stove with a bit of watching and wood. Love the show.......Happy spring if it's not there right now it's coming......

Lindsay Little as a child, I developed an appreciation and fondness for nature. It’s funny how I never got cabin fever in isolation but have gotten it in the city. The heart knows😍

@@BeAmbitiousNotContent Yep, know what you mean. We live in the woods and love it, however last year I let projects undone and and then the winter hit. Now I need to get things dug out and some trees cut etc. I know what you mean about the city. When I lived in one, I would always daydream about what was going on up here. LOL!

Birch tar. I will have to try it. Here in Northern Minnesota, like Canada, spring is fast approaching. Loved the Winter but excited for spring. Thanks Shawn

Learn something new every day as didn't have a clue what you were about to do. Now that is awesome and hope it works for the bugs. Thank you so much.

In Sweden, where I grew up, it was common to make baskets, etc from the bark of the birch trees. More as a hobby, nowadays, but part of living at one time.

Hallo! I live in the north of Sweden and there we use something we call it "Beckolja" in Swedish, which is Birchoil, exactly what you are talking about. The Sami people have used this thousands of years against bugs and mosquitoes, and as a perfume ;)
