I appreciate how Dan feels comfortable adding and adapting sections to the show format. The independent theatres and the tributes sections really show how this show values all parts of the film industry and not just the movies with the biggest budgets/ biggest box office.

The consensus was that the first Shazam was suffocated by being so close to Captain Marvel and Endgame, but in retrospect, I think it was actually HELPED by it. Those movies were well-received and the superhero hype was real. That plus coming off of Aquaman.

Hey Dan, I know the "Road to Recovery" chart is an average of two timespans, but I think It would help to add "Notable Movies" that came out certain weeks so we can get a better picture of why the line was so high or lower on average for those time ranges. You mentioned because Shazam 2 did not do well the line for 2023 dipped, which got me thinking seeing all those other jumps and drops along the chart, it would be interesting to see what movies caused those peeks and valleys, thus changing the average, even if it is for just the current week we are looking at. The only news coverage I saw about Shazam in the past week were two news stories where people involved seemed to diss the movie. One, Rachel Ziegler said she accepted a role in the film simply because she needed a job. The other one was the director essentially saying he wasn't surprised that the movie didn't do well. It's really weird to see the very people who should be championing a film be so dismissive of it, especially when it just reached theaters. Usually people wait years to air their grievances, until the project is no longer making money and it's clearly in the rearview. Not a great sign for Warner Bros management if their own talent is willing to publicly denounce them after just fulfilling their contractual agreements.
@nms7872 Жыл бұрын
Why don't you look into the context behind those stories. Because just taking them for face value gives you a skewed image. And that's how fake information spreads.

Maybe it’s a dumb question, but I wondered how much people have changed since we first started going to the movies. I thought of it when I heard what a good or bad hold is for a certain genre. Horror movies don’t hold as well as others and they are measured by that metric. But has that line changed in the past years? Decades? Have we warmed up to certain genres more? I assume with CGI and fantasy/sci-if taking a front seat, there have to be some drastic changes, but what about to some of the core genres that aren’t swayed by technology? Probably way out of my element here. Just a thought.

As average of a movie Shazam 2 was, I went to see that in cinemas and I never worried about Quantumania. Its the first MCU movie that my wife and I haven't worried about going to see in cinemas. Shazam 2, while not amazing, was at least popcorn movie fun, turn your brain off, watch some action, watch a fairly basic story and enjoy yourself. The Marvel films now have so much homework, references to stuff, callbacks to Movies and TV Shows from several years ago, and its just exhausting. I've personally seen all the Movies and TV Shows, but my wife hasn't seen any of the TV Shows other than the first 2 episodes of Wandavision, and all of Loki and Falcon and the Winter Soldier, so there is a bunch of stuff that she just hasn't seen so she might not understand, and alot of stuff that I have just flat out forgotten, because the TV Shows have been mostly enjoyable, but not really good enough to be worth re-watching. I feel like that fatigue has finally started to catch up to people, and the pandemic screwing up the originally planned release dates certainly hasn't helped.

Not a surprising flop from Shazam 2. So many factors were working against it (insane competition immediately on the horizon, mixed reviews, the studio openly saying that this movie's universe is ending, so the entire story has no stakes, more selective audiences) just to name a few. The same generic formula for a superhero movie isn't going to net a studio the returns that justify the movies' giant budgets anymore. While it's too early to say superhero movies are dying (especially with the soon to be mega hit 'across the spiderverse') it's abundantly clear that superhero movies have to work harder to draw an audience now.
@CamPopplestone Жыл бұрын
I think in a vacuum Quantumania isn't a disappointment, it's right in line with the other films in the series and above the first domestically at least. The issue is cranking the budget up and putting an entire phases setup on a C tier character who has always had smaller scale movies that aren't about the world ending, with somewhat lower budgets than the other marvel properties. Ant-Man is one of the least popular characters but still has his place as a supplementary fun character. But they seemed to decide since he had a big role in Endgame that he could carry a higher budget and get people out to see him in numbers way above what his first two movies did. Expectations and execution is the issue with Quantumania. The numbers would be fine if the movie was a 100-125 million budget film in line with the first two in terms of what it's trying to do
