I use a "guard rail" that actually goes under the sheet, for a big girl bed, so you don't have a big rail on the bed. I didn't think it would work, but the child would have to roll uphill to fall out of bed. Karen Crumpton i have used this too with both of my kids!!! it is AWESOME never once has any of my kids fallen out of bed! and I like the way it looks better than the big rail half way across the bed, its hidden under the sheets so it's more comfortable for the kiddos too!

My youngest son falls out of his bed all the time!!!!! Sometimes he just stays asleep even after we pick him up. We just make sure he doesn't have any transformers or cars along the floor. lol. (He's five and still falls out)

I think your idea of letting her get used to the big girl bed before a "real" big girl bed (regardless of where the rail is) is an awesome idea. She's fine. The bed is low enough to the ground and there's a soft rug under her if she does fall out. Don't listen to any of the naysayers. :)

Oh also, if you want to try a bit of an extra bumper.. stick a pool noodle under her sheet along the side where the rail is. Best to cut it in half so it has a flat side and doesn't move/roll around as easily. Works great
