Thank You for this beautiful testimony! This is so topical: I am currently studying the Theology of the Body audiences, and we are in the section entitled “Continence for the Kingdom of GOD” . . . that special calling to a vocation which makes a SPOUSAL GIFT to GOD . . . a complete gift of self! A renunciation, yet, also an affirmation. So important to remember. . . It’s not a “NO”, but a “YES”!

Withing 20 seconds the video gave me Joy, just so you know. I can see you doing more long form type conversations Elizabeth. It's beautiful that intimacy brought her to know exactly what she wanted, concentrated virginity. The fact that Catholics have unique roles for men and women with the theology to live it strengthens the Faith.

I learned a lot from this interview. It does sound like there is a huge commonality with religious sisters. Would it be a huge jump for Miss Hausmann to become a nun which allows some solitude? I don't think so.
@BiblicalBookworm
@BiblicalBookworm Жыл бұрын
Hm I don't know if the jump would be "huge" but there would be a jump because a religious sister also has the vow of poverty and obedience so that's a big difference to consecrated virginity. But you're right there are big similarities to religious sisters
@ad6449
@ad6449 3 ай бұрын
A major difference is that consecrated virgins don’t live in community like those in religious orders. Consecrated virgins are under their bishop’s direction and are attached to a dioceses. This makes the shape of their lives different from religious sisters. In addition, religious sisters take vows while consecrated virgins are blessed/consecrated by their bishop. The process is different and has implications for how they live the vocation.

For some odd reason god seems to have an issue with clear and direct communication. Thus forcing people to "sense" and "feel" what he wants. If a parent acted the same way towards his/her child, he/she would hardly be seen as a good parent. Am I wrong sensing a little bit of double standards here?

Most people wouldn’t know that you’re a consecrated virgin because you’re wearing secular clothing, unless you had the chance to get into a Catholic conversation (which is often rare) and therefore most people would be unaware of your commitment. God calls us into a community, family or religious order, plus you have to be well off to meet your financial needs as an individual. Sounds more like being a semi-quasi hermit in the mist of a secular society.

You are right that this vocation is rather hidden and I would say that it's not necessary for it to be seen: "But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you." Matthew 6:6

Secret Rape and violence by spiritual leaders is very common and is going on daily. Much more common than people know. The children who are victims do not stand a chance to defend or accuse at the time because they are innocent and don't know enough yet, so they keep quiet about it. but God is greater than man and knows all things... and if our hearts are pure, we are still a virgin.

I have never understood Christian sex obsessions. In Buddhism in my country, we certainly have celibacy laws (stricter for monastics than laypeople) but these precepts are for reasons that have zero to do with godly prohibitions or the preservation of “purity” (as if sex were some kind of dirty an unnatural activity). For us, being sexually active can very easily disturb one’s samadhi (concentration) and lead to mental distraction, which will certainly hinder your progress toward higher states of meditation. But there seems to me no practical value for celibacy in your religion whatsoever. In fact, i find your scriptures rather schizophrenic relationship with sex very strange: encouraging you to go forth and multiply, be a mother, have children, but also… don’t have sex, be a perpetual virgin, and condemn the sexual habits of others. It all sounds very shamanistic from my point of view. Interesting interview. Thanks.
@spacetrains30

"purity" is a hang up of outsiders looking in and not an obsession with in the Christian community. I don't think purity was mentioned once in this interview Religious in Christian communities remain celibate for the same reason as Buddhists. It will be described in relational terms such as in the interview since in our view God is a man. Outside of monks, nuns and consecrated virgins Catholic cultures (Southern Europe and Latin America) seem much more relaxed about sex than any where in the east. But among any successful culture there is some emphasis on forming families and having kids.
@wordscapes5690
@wordscapes5690 5 ай бұрын
@@spacetrains30 Everything you stated is simply not so. Celibacy in Buddhism is not linked to God, gods, or godliness. It is simply practical, that is all. Having children and forming families are not the bedrock of culture. Human beings are that bedrock, whether they form families or not. Culture and your ability to procreate are not necessarily related - correlation does not necessarily imply causation. For example, It may be a cultural tradition within the family to scarifice your first born to your god (this has occurred in history).
@The_Confessor42
@The_Confessor42 Ай бұрын
That’s the problem, you interpreted it through your own cultural and religious framework, that does not align with the Christian view. We do not see sex as bad or „dirty“, as you called it, but we try to fulfil and order it toward its highest purpose. It’s a sacred gift from God, when it’s expressed within the bond between husband and wife(marriage). Celibacy is for a higher spiritual purpose, allowing you to fully focus on God without worldly distractions and concerns. You mentioned that celibacy in Buddhism is for maintaining concentration during meditation. In Christianity, particularly in Catholicism and Orthodoxy, the value of celibacy is tied to total devotion to God. Sex, while not bad and dirty, will hinder monks, nuns and priests to fully serve and being devoted to God. Gluttony, sloth etc. will also disrupt your spiritual growth, so that doesn’t apply to sex only. We have to understand the different vocations within the faith, as you claimed that the Christian position is schizophrenic and contradictory. „Be fruitful and multiply“(Genesis 1:28) is a general call for humanity, while being celibate is a specific vocation for people that want to dedicate themselves fully to God. They’re both distinct and harmonious. So rather than being shamanistic, these views are based and rooted in coherent theology. God bless
@wordscapes5690
@wordscapes5690 Ай бұрын
@@The_Confessor42 This sounds to me to be a ritual construct that was created long after the cultures that wrote “Go forth and multiply” had ceased to exist. You are inventing a ceremonial understanding linked to a cultural tradition. It has no objective application. Celibacy in Buddhism is not seen as a “devotion”. In your tradition, you suppress your urges in order to devote to God. In the Buddhist tradition (I speak only for Theravada here) you uproot all desire. It ceases to exist. It is not a suppression, nor is it a sacrifice. It is a needless thing that hiders samadhi, so it is shorn away, uprooted, and it dies. That is all. Your obsession with it smacks of control, not of liberation. And your narrow view of human sexuality is typical for the younger traditions (forgive me if this sounds arrogant, which it probably does). There exist homosexuals, bisexuals, mixed-gendered, solo-gendered, asexuals, masculine heterosexuals (male and female), feminine heterosexuals (male and female), masculine homosexuals (male and female), feminine homosexuals (male and female), masculine asexuals (male and female), feminine asexuals (male and female), masculine…. And many, many more (even more than is spoken of in your western secular sciences)Your religion is very limited when it comes to the human condition and the true nature of human expressions of form. Whether you admit the existence of these people or not, is neither here nor there. Facts do not require belief. I will never understand your religion and its many, many enemies. Believe me, I have tried.

@@wordscapes5690 Look, my friend. You are hammering at me with a weapon, forged by your framework. You show excellent understanding of your own beliefs, but fail to engage deeply with mine. You brought up good points about the different approach to celibacy, while again imposing your perspective onto it. You think that I just invented it and Christianity has no historical foundation whatsoever? Your comment consists of assumptions that are baseless in its core. Assumptions that ignore core Christian teachings from Jesus Christ, St. Paul and early church fathers, long before any cultural reinterpretations. Jesus spoke of the prophets in the Old Testament, affirming them. Do you even know how many links there are between the old and the new? As I said again, the vocation for celibacy is reserved for people that want to devote their entire lives to God. It’s a transformation, not a suppression. Desires are getting redirected towards a higher purpose, the union with God in that case. It’s not about denying or rejecting it. We also don’t deny the inclinations that some individuals may have, but expressing the teaching to live in accordance with our metaphysical vision of human nature. Each person was made in the image of God(Genesis 1:27), our identity is not defined by our inclinations or sexual tendencies but by our relationship with God. Identity is also not being defined by our sexual expressions, but by emotions, rational thought and spirituality that lead us to God, how to understand him. I would encourage you to read, if learning is truly your desire, a bit about our saints. The struggles, the desires, and the transformation of these fascinating people. They were not people who miserably walked trough the desert, angered by the fact that their „sexual expressions“ were being suppressed, because of their own vocations. Mysticism and spirituality is not only reserved for eastern religions. Take a look at Theosis, Christian mysticism and teachings from saints like St. John of the Cross, St. Catherine of Siena, St. John Climacus and many more both from western and eastern tradition. There’s much more to Christianity, than you trying to assume.

Devoting this portion of your eternal life in service of God and church is admirable and noble. When God created marriage it was between one man and one woman as a picture of God’s marriage to his people/nation. People were married to other people at the same time God was married to a people/nation. Jesus is still very much one human man (and God) of flesh and bone with digestive and reproductive organs. As God is still the Father and still the Son in singular human form, he could marry a nation and one single woman at the same time. Jesus' own definition of marriage is between one man and one woman who are joined through physical intercourse. Is it God’s ideal marriage of one man with 1,000's of individual women? Is polygamy an ideal form of Godly marriage? While God was married to Israel, Mary wasn't married to God or the Holy Spirit individually. She was married to a man, Joseph. In order for that marriage to be legal she would have had to have intercourse, otherwise she was not married. Jesus wasn't raised by a single mom. If you wanted to base your life on Mary's wouldn't you trust God and also marry a man and have kid(s) like her? Do you want to share your husband with 1,000's of other women like Solomon? Is that God's ideal form of marriage?

Are you aware of the fact that Mary remained a virgin?
@lighthouse_23_
@lighthouse_23_ Жыл бұрын
@@BiblicalBookworm Are you aware of the fact the Bible says she didn't remain a virgin? "Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name Jesus” (Matthew 1:24-25) “Knew” was a modest way of describing sexual relations in ancient times. For example, Adam knew Eve, and she conceived Cain, and he knew her again, and she bore Seth (Genesis 4:1, 25). "Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?” So they were offended at Him. (Mark 6:3) Some suggest these brothers and sisters were cousins or more distant relations. If true, why didn’t the writers use the Greek term for cousins (anepsios)? The Greek word did exist and was used in Scripture (Colossians 4:10). If they were more distant relatives, then why not use a Greek word that meant relatives (suggenes), such as the one describing Mary and Elizabeth’s relational status in Luke 1:36? Why did Matthew and Mark use the words most commonly translated as brothers (adelphos) and sisters (adelphe)? It would not be a sin for Mary to have sexual relations with her husband Joseph, but it would have been sinful for her to withhold herself from him throughout their marriage (1 Corinthians 7:3-5).

She followed _her_ vocation, and it _wasn't_ about being a wife to an earthly husband and a biological mother. Don't complain about people pursuing what they're called to. We counter Satan by ourselves becoming holy and following _our_ vocation, each their own.
