@@Asme1111-t8h Pricks are in every profession. Just ask a nurse, dental assistant and just about any "executive assistant." We advocate for our clients within the bounds of ethics and take the high road when emotions are an issue.
@trialgoddess Жыл бұрын
@@Asme1111-t8h Ethics certainly do not appear to be a boundary for SCOTUS Justice Clarence Thomas or many of DJT's lawyers. Having been Board Certified at an early age and one of the few women in my area of practice (civil litigation), it was humbling to learn how well my colleagues and judges regarded me. You can describe ethics in any way you wish as long as they are paramount in every aspect of your representation and beyond. Tawdry advertisers have done the profession a disservice.
@trialgoddess Жыл бұрын
@@Asme1111-t8h In all civil cases, we are required to have written retainer agreements/engagement letters signed by the attorney and the client that detail the contingency percentage (when allowed) and the hourly rate for lawyers and paralegals, plus a list of services that will result in costs billed by vendors like court reporters, creators of charts and enlarged photos, photographers who videotape the scene (sometimes using a drone), expert witnesses such as physicians and human factor experts and life care planners, etc. These agreements must be signed prior to the attorney filing a Notice of Appearance in the litigation or sending a letter of representation to the opposing party's counsel. The hiring of an expert always is discussed with the client as the expert's work and trial testimony can be major costs to the client. In most tort cases, especially personal injury or wrongful death claims, the attorney working on a contingency basis agrees to waive costs and fees if the client does not prevail at trial or the case is not settled such that some benefit inures to the client (e.g., the negotiation and satisfaction of medical bills not covered by insurance). Even with a contingency agreement, the best practice is to keep track of hours expended in the event that a statute or rule of procedure is triggered that requires the payment of the claimant's fees and costs by the defendant when the actual fees exceed the amount of the contingency. That event is covered in the retainer agreement/letter of engagement. States have different statutes limiting damages and even causes of action, as Republican majority legislatures when in power have no interest in protecting a claimant, but choose to protect physicians, hospitals, nursing homes, corporations, etc. Most people do not realize how limited their access to the court system has become, do not understand damages caps and remittiturs, and are gobsmacked when they learn that they could end up paying the attorney's fees and costs of the defendant if the defendant prevails under certain circumstances. Despite all the complexities, there is nothing more rewarding than having a jury trial and obtaining a favorable judgment for a client who has suffered damages due to the fault of another. I can't recall letting the ego and bluster of an opposing counsel intimidate me; and, most juries seemed put off by those personalities. I haven't done any criminal defense work in over two decades, so I cannot comment on the burdens on lawyers who have the mettle and fine fettle to practice in that area of law. I've worked in the hospitality industry. How many times we had people complain about the price for a breakfast, lunch or dinner saying: "I can get the same food for half that price at the supermarket". Me: Uhm yes and in our restaurant you get the food cooked (by a chef), served (server) your dishes will be done (dishwasher). Also you make use of our establishment (which also costs us; rent, wifi, electricity etc.) So if you want to eat for that price, go to the supermarket and take care of everything else yourself?

This is why I don't do custom orders anymore. I wire wrap, knit , hand spin my own yarn. One long time customer insisted I told her $60 for an xxl shawl, custom ordered. In colors I feel were a no for anyone else. I took it . But I will never sell her anything else. Ever.

"my shears work as well as yours do" me: uh in what universe do they buy new tools for each person's hair

If this scenario ever happened to me, the conversation would have ended the moment she started pulling the stuff out of her bag. And I probably would have sent her out the door.

I wonder if this was the first time she tried to get a discount by bringing everything or if another stylist allowed her to be pushy to allow some of it. 🤷♀️ I bet she thought with everything she brought that the service would cost just $20. Lol

It is exhausting dealing with people who dont understand that theyre being charged because YOU took the thousands of hours of study and prwctice and experience that they just didnt.

It amazes me that ppl don’t stop to think that someone else’s time, is just as important as your own. Like you’re paying for their skillset, not the tools they use.

If she has all the stuff, why didn't she just ask a like-minded friend to do it for her? Some people are so strange

Shes even lucky she was offered the comp on the colour cuz most shops will want to use their own chemicals

Like case in point, if your scissors were $1200, then obviously you're not charging people for the equipment.
@jeng8401 Жыл бұрын
People are so hung up on 'products' being the cost of everything. When they refuse to take into account the time and experience of the person as a value. It scares me how many people would happily have indentured servants again if they could get away with it.
@pembrokelove Жыл бұрын
Oh no. When they say “I brought all the necessities” you know it’s going to be bad. Could you even imagine someone showing up to the hospital and being like *pulls out ginsu* “I brought my own knife, so you don’t need to charge me for the scalpels…”
@autumn557 Жыл бұрын
I kind of get those customers who say “well I have my own shirt and shoes so all I need to rent is the tuxedo. How much is it now?” …. Still 200$ because you’re still taking a whole ass tuxedo out of the store for a weekend that I can’t repent to anyone. I’m not charging you 100$ for shoes and shirt. It’s the cost to n out rent it to someone else. Otherwise I just…. Won’t.

Plus sometimes the specific dye/brand they use at the salon is much different/higher quality and can only be purchased by those who have a license (found that out when I asked my stylist exactly what brand she uses so I could do touch-ups on my own at home when she told me that the exact brand they use at the salon can only be bought by stylists with a license BUUUTT she did suggest some amazing “next best thing” alternatives)

Damn, I would feel horrible asking for a discount. I tried a new stylist one time and she totally screwed up my hair and I still tipped her and was afraid to complain.
@StuckinNormal Жыл бұрын
Same here! I tipped anyway, then got home and cried for the next four days! I did immediately let them know I was unsatisfied and made sure that I showed them the same pictures that I had shown the stylist, who had said” yes! I can absolutely do that!” and t hen proceeded to cut the front of my hair off! Arghhh I keep trying to remember it will grow 😢😢😢

I‘m not a hairstylist but I think i would refuse to use products a client brings in. Especially color… Cause I don‘t know How their stuff is going to work and how it will turn out. In the end they‘re gonna say I messed up their hair… so it’s my Reputation on the line
@lauracastle6035 Жыл бұрын
☝️This right here. If it doesn't turn out they'll still blame you. A good reputation is invaluable.

Then have your colorist order it. She can get it cheaper then you. And most states do not allow outside products.

The amount of times I’ll say “You are more than welcome to print your own posters at home and I would not charge you and it would be completely free.” BUT I DONT HAVE A PRINTER ITS JUST A PIECE OF PAPER… Ma’am it’s less than a dollar, pay for the service and my time or get out of my store lmao
