Check the timing first as it sounds like it too far advanced when cranking either that or you have a stuck open injector dribbling into the cylinder causing semi hydraulic lock as it’s really struggling to crank properly

First car I remember was my dads vl exec in cream white. Eventually had to scrap it due to rust, particularly the boot was rusted out likely from crab traps. Towed boat from Sydney to Byron plus a bunch of extras when we moved house. Champion car. This sort of thing your doing with your son is something I wish I could have done with my dad, which I said many times as a kid. End up doing my own cars. Two sss pulsars, vzr pulsar, engine swapped is200. Would love a old Holden if I found one for decent price

Blue wires are for oil pressure light and oil pressure gauge.

Good video! Their a great learning curve specially the rb30s. They have temperamental issues, also I've got 2nd shocks, they were working fine I just bought new. If you paid postage. I'd happily send them to contribute towards the build. I have a rb30 auto tps A few bits and bobs. If needed

Well done boys great work, I would also check if the air flow meter is working while the car is running, disconnect it and see if it makes a difference, also the new spark plugs are probably fouled up due to running no airflow meter and no o2 sensor, hence why there was black smoke coming out of it , it would of been running really rich, its happend to me before , pull one spark out and inspect it!! Let me know how it goes 😊

Well done getting it running! Big milestone achieved. The young fella is making plenty of turbo noises, hopefully a sign of things to come. What are the blue wires connected to? From memory knock sensors screw into the block on that side around that location however I'm not sure if NA cars had knock sensors? Would putting the o2 sensor back in and hooking it up help with idle potentially?

The low fuel pressure may be also caused by a stuck injector
