@@unstaybul I... Hadn't given much thought to the exact semantics of the word draw! I'd need to elicit a bunch of felicity judgements from different people to be really confident, but based on my own native speaker intuition, I'd say no? I can draw water out of a glass using an eyedropper, gravity draws water to the lowest local elevation, and I could draw water across a tabletop by dragging my finger through a spill. But if I were pushing the spill with a rag or pouring water out of a glass, I wouldn't consider it an acceptable word to describe that action with. So for me at least, I think the use of "draw" comes with restrictions on the method/manner by which one causes the water to flow, but if you use it differently, please let me know!

I try to hold it as long as i can, 1 hr to maybe an hour & a half a most (pee) or i have to go there and then (poop). Anymore i get excruciating pain. If i can , i go at the side of the road but if i've held it in too long and in agony , it won't just go whoosh and done. It take 5 or so minutes and changing sitting positions for my body to relax to let me relieve myself. It is horrible, embarressing and painful. Having female body parts, i can't just pee in a bottle. An ice cream bucket is a plastic gallon-size bucket. They have a plastic lid and a plastic handle and can be cleaned completely. Most truckers (even without medical conditions) usually use soda pop or water bottles and throw them in the trash; using the bucket, particularly if he is washing it out between uses, is just a more sustainable option. Now, if he's going home and washing out the bucket in the same sinkful of water with the dishes you eat on, maybe there is a conversation that needs to occur about that... But either way, yeah... She's definitely the drama. Nothing at all wrong about having a pee bucket if you sometimes don't make it between stops, regardless of how long that is.

To explain ice cream buckets: idk if everywhere has them, but in the States stores sell big plastic buckets of ice cream for parties and larger families. They do have lids that supposedly seal good.
@TiBunCosplay8 ай бұрын
When I heard "Ice cream bucket" I imagined the gallon sized plastic buckets that you can get in American grocery stores. My parents always got those because being a family of 5, we could eat a lot of ice cream in the summer. We always kept the buckets for various uses. some for cleaning around the house (holding soapy water) some were used in the garden to protect plants on frosty nights, some became sand box toys, some became storage for things. they were really handy and sturdy. I would hope that he'd give the bucket a wash after emptying it when he had to use it, but if it's one of those plastic buckets with a lid then it's not that bad of a thing to use in emergencies IMO. Also in America it's illegal to pee on the side of the road. If you get caught you would be charged with indecent exposure, so it is more common to pull over and pee in the car into some sort of container in emergencies.

In the US, especially the south, it's considered rude to wear red to a wedding - almost as rude as wearing white - because of an old idea that red meant you either want to or already have slept with a member of the couple/were the groom's mistress, etc. Nowadays, it's considered rude because it's too eye-catching in photos. No red at a wedding is a pretty recent thing, red as a colour supposedly signalling promiscuity is a very new idea. People claim it's a historical thing, and it even has made its way even into reenactment "Victorians wouldn't wear red! That's for slnts!" except Queen Victoria wore red in a portrait. Many wedding rules that people claim are very old turn out to be very recent. No white was not a rule because most brides did not wear white (or white only, white wedding dresses existed, because white dresses in general existed, brides simply wore their best clothes, which could be any colour) for a very long time. So red as a guest is only rude because some people made up a rule about it very recently. That's not to say that those people won't find it rude, but the reason (she slept with the groom) is complete nonsense. It's also not a common thing in most places. I only heard about it from a few people from the US. I learned that black is more offensive because it implies mourning the wedding instead of celebrating it, but that's a fairly recent thing too.
@raspberryitalia34647 ай бұрын
@AnnekeOosterink it may be relatively recent, but my grandmother never wore red anywhere her entire life because where she grew up (deep south usa) she was taught red was a whore's color. The best seems to be a sickbag type thing , they can be slid into your pocket or your glove compartment or under your seat or whatever until you need them and then you can seal it safely so nothing gets out and then you can bin it once your at the other end. I hope they don't feel ashamed or anything ♡ Also a kids travel potty could be useful. I definitely think they need to find a more hygienic way to do this but the fact they had something even if it was a icecream tub shows that they obviously can't "just hold it in" and it's something they are trying to handle. As someone who has been completely mortified anytime I've ever had to pee in the potential sight of other people, I completely understand why someone would use a bucket instead. I know this is usually less of a big deal for guys than for women, but not all guys are the same. Honestly I'm a little annoyed that neither of them considered that desire for privacy might be a factor here.

For the first one, I once drove past a house on a very busy road. Old lady (at least 70s), she was chilling on her front porch in a dressing gown/robe and nothing else. But it was open and she was wearing absolutely nothing underneath and I saw everything...I feel like this is more of an issue than someone dashing outside for a minute in her completely covering robe.

7:55 - I feel like it's quite often that like, middle-aged men walking around topless with their beer bellies hanging out are used as an example all "they're doing it", and I feel like, yeah; and it's great that they have the confidence to do that. It'd be great if everyone had the ability to just be comfortable in their body and left unbothered when they choose to dress (or not dress) a certain way, within reason of course. My mother used to go off about how awful it was with these "fat old men running around in nothing but shorts" and I just think it's fine. No one's getting hurt, provided they're wearing sunscreen.

🤣 So for "draw a bath", I'm pretty sure it's the same "draw" as "draw something towards yourself" - people used to have to draw water from a well to get the water *for* the bath, so "drawing a bath" likely stemmed from that.

There's biodegradable pee bags that all genders can use and when you pee in them, it goes onto a powder that crystallises and then you can throw it out and again, it's all biodegradable. These are used a lot at festivals. Great for kids abd adults alike for trips or like that story for medical conditions.

Yeah, one of the key rules of pissing in the wild is that you go somewhere people can't see you. Like, hide behind a tree. Don't do it near people. The field could well have been too open. It would only work if there's a wall, bush or tree that he could go behind. Wild wee etiquette, people.

Park the car in the side of the road, open the door and now you are covered from two sides. If you have back door, you can open that too and now you are covered from three sides. I have done that when I really needed to go, and I am a woman. For a man it is easier.

Or if there's waist-high tall grass not far off the road (edit: but still on the public part of the road's shoulder, not behind a fence or property line), just walk a few feet into it so you're covered from any angle that matters and stomp yourself a little clear spot to stop grass cuts on the tender bits while they're out. People passing by would likely know what you're doing, but the only ones who could actually SEE it are in planes overhead.

Are they owned by either high-surveillance corporate farms, and/or rural enough that they might be met with a shotgun blast to the rump? Also, here in my state, public urination is considered an exhibitionist/sex crime for prosecution and can literally get you on a Listed Sex Criminals roll permanently along with actual SAers and Ped*philes, so that’s a HUGE risk.

I went to a gothic Halloween wedding and it was so much fun! The bride looked gorgeous in her black gown & veil. They had a flower plague doctor, a witch officiant and a Viking escorted the bride (nice costumes, not the typical Halloween ones). While it's not a theme I'd choose for my wedding, it was lovely and suited the couple perfectly.

One thing I am noticing is how much longer european people think an hour drive is compared to north americans. And how much less distance they get in that same hour. I was temping at an office here in Oregon and had to cover for a coworker. The manchester office absolutely refused to believe that I was covering for her because she and her husband had both taken long lunches and drove a hundred miles each to meet in the middle for lunch.

The ice-cream bucket - as someone with an unreasonable bladder capacity, I have never had to, but on many roads (e.g. UK motorways) it is a lot easier to find a layby where you could pull over and subtly fill a bucket or bottle than get to accessible field to offload. Also possibly he is using receptacle when stuck in stationary traffic?

On the clothing topic, I'm going to play devil's advocate for a minute: I'm physically disabled and don't have the energy to change out of the clothes I wore to bed every morning. Sometimes I go to out in unwashed clothes, sweaty clothes, or slept in clothes because I just don't have the spoons to change. Many other physically disabled folks are the same. We have to pick and choose what we spend our energy on because we cannot do everything.

The Wedding One: My rule of thumb is “if it doesn’t go out on the invites, it’s too late.” I know the bride didn’t choose her own dress by then, but (I mean in the kindest way) that’s her fault, not the people who may have already purchased clothing. If I was the bride in that situation, I might still ASK people not to wear the same color too, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with asking. BUT if someone already bought/planned a similar dress, I would accept that as the consequence of making such a last-minute request and harbor no hard feelings! The cousin is weird/the main drama in this story, but objectively, the couple can’t expect perfect wedding etiquette from the guests when they aren’t displaying their own as the “hosts”. It’s not about tradition, it’s about being considerate of people’s time and money. Asking is fine, but I would add a caveat to the request for the people who may have already chosen red. The other alternative is not being upset if anyone shows up in something not up to dress code because they didn’t have time/money to go purchase something else. When I’m a guest, I choose my outfit a month or 2 ahead of time at minimum, usually as soon as I get the invite and see what season it will be! I don’t own many dresses, most of the ones I do have were purchased for weddings specifically, so it’s not true that everyone just has alternatives sitting around in their closet. And while there may be time, that does not mean there is money. “just go buy another one” is not considerate of people’s various financial status’. I think if they wanted to be strict on this rule, they should’ve taken responsibility for that desire and figured out the dress much earlier; pre-invites.

That op of the pee post is not only ableist af, but has some seriously weird hang ups over repurposing plastic containers for reuse. Like I'm assuming op is talking about those big ice cream buckets that are usually meant for parties which are water proof, resealable, and are generally meant to be reused like any other similar duty containers like trash cans or sand castle buckets. Also it's been washed meaning it doesn't even have any pee in it. She's acting like a toddler herself like that bucket is somehow permanently contaminated and thereby contaminating everything else around it because at some point it had pee in it. The "it's not in the exactly one space it should be therefore it's wrong and bad" is far more toddler behavior than someone recognizing and accommodating a need that not everyone else has in a safe and healthy way. Also the whole why don't you just hold it is actually terrible advice for anyone as holding it in too long is the number one cause of UTIs and you can get so so sick doing that. I feel bad for the boyfriend cuz that's so infantilizing and inconsiderate like wtf.

I agree with you and Roly about the red wedding attire. They are NOT the drama. I don’t understand so many people saying otherwise. It appears to be a ‘nice attire’ function but not formal at all, so how difficult would it be to substitute the cousin’s chosen outfit for any nice business attire. A nice pant suit? The wedding couple are NTA for sure.

TMI/ To be honest, I've considered getting one of these thingies that allow women to pee into a little container. I have MS, which for me unfortunately comes with incontinence. When I need to go, I need to go NOW. I always wear incontinence pads, and when I know there's a long drive ahead without the option to stop at a rest stop, I might wear adult diapers. But to be honest, it's not the most comfortable thing… You know, once they are full… So maybe it would be better to get a container. Either way, I would feel crushed if my husband ever told me it was disgusting. /TMI

If I had been invited to a wedding (or any other party) and I have an outfit sorted out, I would be pissed if they would suddenly inform last minute change of the dress code. Considering that the outfit I have, would now be a no-no and I wouldn't have anything suitable at home. I don't like shopping clothes and don't like using a lot of money to clothes I might not wear again. So if I'd be forced to get a new outfit, I wouldn't be happy about it. If planning to have a dress code in a party, should state that in the invitation.
@s.a.43588 ай бұрын
I agree. 4 weeks is short notice for a wedding dress code, which is something that should be communicated on the invitation. I understand that the bride only decided recently, but then I don’t think she should expect others to not wear a certain colour that is not public knowledge not to wear (ie not wear white or black). We cannot assume that everyone will have multiple outfits for special occasions. Having said that, I also think the cousin is being overly dramatic. She could have communicated in a calm manner that not being able to wear the dress she planned to wear is an issue.

My guess for "drawing a bath" is that it probably comes from "drawing water from a well" for the bath (when you had to hand fill a tub with buckets of water)? IDK where "drawing water from a well came from unless that's a shortened form of "withdraw" So I don't actually know and don't quote me but I'm hypothesizing that it went withdraw water from the well -> draw water from the well -> draw water (from the well) for a bath -> draw a bath

Thoughts Re: wedding clothes. On the one hand it's nice to contact the wedding couple and ask what the colours are especially if there could be family photos. For example, I checked with my soon to be sis-in-law to ask about colours. If there was suddenly an announcement 4 weeks before the event and I realized I had to buy something else, I'd be super stressed. Not everyone can afford a second outfit and might even have trouble finding something nice to begin with (ie. in a bigger body and/or disabled and/or sensory issues).

On the wedding one, for a conventional wedding female presenting guests aren't meant to wear red anyway. So that dress wouldn't have been appropriate even without the dress code. There's significantly more rules about wedding dress code for female presenting people: not meant to wear white, black, or red is just the colour rules.
