I believe I lost a cat because of this. He was super friendly and would go up to everyone. Due to my other cat being an outdoor cat, couldn't keep the other in. Eventually he didn't come back. Looked all over and had others looking but no avail. Even noticed my other cat, going out different directions every day (assumed he was looking too). My guess is someone thought it was a stray just roaming around and kept him. Hope he is doing alright.

I had a large gray tabby that would disappear for days at at a time. It was a stray that showed up at work one day out of a trailer that came cross country. The driver said the trailer had been loaded 2800 miles away. The cat ran out when they opened the trailer at the loading dock. It hung around the warehouse for a few weeks, then nearby neighbors began coming by complaining that its been attacking their cats and eating their food. One woman in the office decided to take it home, but it wouldn't get in her car, so while leaving work one day I had my door open and it jumped right in my car and layed down on the seat. I called the woman who wanted the cat and took it to her house, the cat followed me into her house, then I left it there. A week later she said the cat was gone, it went out and never came back. She lived about 40 minutes from work, and I lived about 20 minutes further away in the same direction. A week later I happened to get home before dark one day and noticed a cat laying on my front porch. It looked like the same cat but I wasn't sure. I fed it anyway, and it stuck around, eventually coming into the house. It hung around steady for at least two years, then it started to disappear for a day or two then show back up. Then one day it was just gone, I figured either someone picked it up or maybe it just went off somewhere and died. (I had no idea how old it was). Then after a couple months it shows up again, wearing a fancy red collar. with license tag on the collar from a town over an hour away. I called that town to see who bought the license and found out it was some old woman who was looking for her cat, she told me she'd had that cat for seven years. (It hadn't been that long since the cst showed up at work). At best I figured she must have lost her cat and just picked one up that looked like it either not knowing or intentionally. I told her where I was and she then accused me of stealing her cat. A week later the cat was gone again. My town didn't license cats so she had no tag on her from me, nor was I too concerned about it. She was gone again for a week, this time she showed up with a light blue collar missing the red collar and license. She stuck around for the next 5 or so months, and acted like a normal house cat. Then around the holidays one year she went outside one evening and never came back. Four years later she showed back up wearing a knit sweater and a harness with a different cat license, this time from another state, over 100 miles away. When I called that town, they willingly gave me the owner's phone number. When I called the woman told me a similar story, the cat had jumped out of a box truck that was delivering furniture one day and just stuck around. She went on to tell me she stuck around and they even had her fixed and had kept up all the shots required there. I told her where I was, then told her how the cat came to be here. She sort of accepted that it was my cat, but I said if she wanted she's welcome to come get her but she never did, it was just too far I suppose. The cat stuck around for another couple years and was just gone again one day. I had left the last license on her. I got a call from the woman who had bought that license nearly three years later saying she got a call from a guy half way across the country who had the cat, it had ran out of a truck at some loading dock in 3/4 of the way across the country. I never heard back from her but we both sort of figured that the cat had figured out that hopping into a truck meant when the door reopened it was a whole new adventure I guess. There's no telling how many times that cat did that before I found it that day, or how many miles it had traveled. This all was over 30 years ago now, but I suppose I'll never know how far it traveled or where it started out but it managed to somehow get from San Francisco, to PA, to NJ, to NY, back to NJ three times, and then to WI, and who knows where it ended up from there. I also never knew how old it was, it wasn't a kitten when I first found it, it was full grown and a mature cat even then, by the time it disappeared for the last time it had been around here for over 7 years and then it turned up nearly 3 years after that in CO. So it was at least 10 at that point, and likely a good bit older judging by its size and appearance.

That was it, she was ours. We found out that the neighbor adjacent to us also had also taken her in and she spilt her time between our houses, with both of us taking the cat to the vet. Not really. The cat doesn't give a $hit what the people think of each other. You think a cat sits there and thinks about what one person thinks of another person for a second? You don't know cats. This behavior is more common among cats than most people realize. Most cat owners will tell you that their cat with go MIA for a period of time. What they're doing is visiting someone else that they have decided to adopt. A neighborhood cat decided to adopt my family along with a number of other people in the neighborhood. One of the neighbors told us the name of the cat when we moved in. At night when I would set up my telescope to look at the sky I would always set up an extra sling chair next to my chair. In no time he would come along, lay in the chair and hang out with me for about half an hour before moving on to his next stop.. We would go for walks in the neighborhood at night sometimes and he would come out of the bushes several streets away from where we live to say hello. We never knew when or where we would bump into him while out on a walk.

cats are outdoor creatures. i think it’s cruel to keep cats indoors especially in small flats. if you’re going to keep them indoors they need a lot of enrichment, climbing, hunting, smells, all their natural behaviours and senses need to be utilised. my cats are outdoor/indoor and they love hunting in the fields. they’ve always kept themselves off the road and come in to eat and sleep and cuddle for a lot of the day and night. they can choose when to go out. it’s also more natural for their bathroom habits although litter trays have the added benefit of being able to check if there’s anything wrong with their poos and wees❤not saying their aren’t extenuating circumstances for both arguments

Besides the literal dozen coyotes that roam my neighborhood every night, this is honestly another good reason whyd I’d never let a cat be an outdoor cat. It’s cute, but there’s a lot of selfish people out there, could steal her so easily.
@zoeye7095Ай бұрын
Yea I don't let my cats out either. When I was a kid the neighbors behind us always had an outdoor cat. It was rare we'd be outside at the same time because while I played outside all the time, the other kids rarely did. Every time I saw them it seemed like they were telling me about a new cat because their old one had died or never came home and they had no idea what happened. Made a huge impression on me and so I've never had outdoor cats.

Not only the coyotes, but there are alot of SICKO's who like to torture and kill cats! PLEASE, if you love them keep your cats inside...😢
@rosethorne9155Ай бұрын
Everybody in my neighborhood drives those new mom SUVs or big trucks. And there are coyotes, hawks, and owls. There used to be 4 different "outside cats" roaming around here. There is currently one I still see around. If I had a cat, they would never be allowed outside unless they were leash-trained and we were out for a walk together. I wish people took this more seriously instead of shrugging and acting like cats are disposable...
@cat_atouilleАй бұрын
understandable. it's just that there are places where it's common to let their pet cats roam outdoors like the UK
@dharrison6504Ай бұрын
As someone who’s lived out in the country where you would hear the coyotes every summer night, and as someone who’s also had 10 cats in their life, we’ve lost more cats due to cars than animals, we had 3 cats (two were kittens) run away, so it’s possible it was coyotes, but we never found any evidence of that so idk about that? Our two now are mixed indoor outdoor, and we live in a much more populated area now, but they go out for hours and have been fine, we don’t have coyotes here but still.

Seriously. I hate cat ‘owners’ who let their cats out all day. I have dogs. I keep them in the yard, but peoples cats will come in the yard. I’m always afraid of a cat getting attacked and killed in my yard. It literally pisses me off that people allow this with their cats. They’re not even ‘wild’ animals in the first place. And then dogs can get put down for attacking cats, even tho it’s natural, and everyone lets their cats wander everywhere
@magdam1508Ай бұрын

@@Zzz2x the laws astound it are ridiculous. I’m in the UK and basically cats can go wherever and do whatever tf they like and there’s f all that can legally be done about it unless it can be proven to be causing a “health hazard”. I have a cat, I love cats, but like you said they’re not wild animals and they cause a nuisance and destruction to nature. My garden and driveway were so covered in turds I literally had to resort to levelling and covering it all in tarmac bc there was nothing else I could do. I can only assume the laws and stuff around you are similar. But yeah if a dog took a dump on someone’s driveway every day they could do something about it I’m sure. And I’d be super curious to know what the law is around a cat injuring someone bc I bet it’s non existent while a dog would be at risk of euthanasia. It makes me so mad the unfairness of it all.

@nightingelleАй бұрын
@@erivlo779 It's not bad to keep them indoors, you are just incorrect. This video is literally about a cat who needed stitches because it was attacked by a dog outside and could easily have been killed. Cats on average live drastically shorter lives when allowed outdoors, and they are an invasive species that decimates local wildlife. It's irresponsible to let them roam outdoors without supervision.
@rosethorne9155Ай бұрын
@@erivlo779 Cats don't catch mice, they catch birds. A lot of them. So many that they have actually caused species to become endangered and go extinct. You can look this up on any bird watcher website. Outdoor Cats ALSO get hit by cars, and, just like the cat in the video, mauled by dogs and other bigger animals. Many outdoor cats don't live longer than 4-5 years, while indoor cats can easily reach 10 and 12 years, and older. It's just really dangerous and cruel overall to make them live that way.
