And I don't understand why people are so shocked when animals aren't very nice anymore. I have three hams and it breaks my heart to see hamsters in these cages, let alone a Guinea Pig. Hamsters need a minimum of 450-600 sq in (min in US) depending on the species, I always advocate to provide more than the bare minimum. Meanwhile, these critter trail cages are barely 120 sq inches. This treatment is incredibly neglectful to hamsters and sadly very much encouraged by pet store sales policies. But to shove a Guinea pig in there…I am almost speechless. So glad he made his way to you guys, the work you all do is amazing. And a reminder to anyone wanting to acquire a small animal, always check your local shelters, rescues, and rehoming ads before supporting breeding mills and the corporate pet trade.

Despite all this we had them for over five years and our vet said he had rarely seen two happier and contented fur balls. My guinea pig growing up had a cage like this towards the end of her life (she used to live in a big hutch with her sisters but she outlived them and then we brought her inside), and it makes me so sad thinking back because that's what the pet shop had advised to my parents and they just took their word for it. :-( I know now that it's way way way too small, and she was probably miserable in it, especially on her own. I want to rehome some guinea pigs someday to do some good for guineas and make up for it. I'm glad that it's so much easier these days for owners to find the right information! I assure you, we love them and care for them when they're with us but everyone I've ever worked with has wished we didn't have to sell animals. But the demand is INSANE so the incentive is still there. For small animals, guinea pigs have the highest margin on the animal itself (though we spend the most on them at the vet, usually URI or fungal outbreaks that crop up the day or two after they've arrived from travel stress). Their caging and accessories are also huge money makers. Please adopt. It's never hard to find guinea pigs who need homes.

I got my first Guinea Pig last year on the day this video was uploaded. February 25th, 2021. It's just my mother and I live together with a dog. We asked questions at the pet store ( Petco ) They sold us an overpriced cage that is probably barely big enough for one Cavvie. Didn't tell us anything about them being social animals and needing other piggies around. Obviously got us to buy a bunch of unneeded toys and other stuff like salt licks and toys meant for hamsters. We brought him home and got his new cage setup, which in comparison to Petco's cage, was about two or three times bigger length-wise. We ended up calling him Wrex. I named him after a video game character from the game Mass Effect. Turns out it was also the name of my Niece and Nephew's grandpa who died recently ( If I remember right ) So the kids loved that. It was about a week later we noticed how shy our first cavy was. We started looking into it, and we found out that they need at least two. We went to a local pet store and got a new cavy, we called him Rocky. Turns out that was another name of a grandpa, this time mine who passed away when I was a kid. Almost immediately after throwing him in the cage ( Not literally ) we noticed an immediate improvement in how Wrex was acting. They were best friends and had such a fun time. Then we got a decent chunk of money, and both my mom and I agreed that we ought to expand the cage. As we learned about the recommended size of the Guinea Pigs to run and have room. It was one of the first times having such a large amount of money, so I guess I was feeling flushed. I ended up buying 5-cages... Way too much. Each cage was about 2Fx4F. It was the Midwest brand. Not a horrible cage, but assembly was such a pain. We ended up only using 3 of the cages and putting the other cages in storage if we needed another panel. Then we decided on one other Guinea Pig. We got him from the same place as we did Rocky. Was just a little baby. Very rough and scraggly hair. No idea at the time that he was get such long hair. We called him Scrappy just because of how much he looked like a rough little Cavy. But we unknowingly put him in the cage with Wrex and Rocky. Turns out that introducing a new Guinea Pig to an already established herd isn't good. Rocky ended up getting really violent to Wrex. While Wrex started to never leave his Hut. At the time we had no idea what to do. We ended up using the original cage we got with Wrex and tried separating them both. But both my mom and I both knew it wasn't right or fair to keep one Guinea separated from another. So we bought one last Guinea Pig. This time we named him Tiberius, aka Tibby. We looked into it and learned how to introduce Guinea Pigs, and since Rocky and Scrappy had the best bond. We put Tibby with Wrex. Get it? Tiberius-Wrex? Then the worst part of it all for me. Was back in September. My sister told my mother that her friend had a Guinea Pig they couldn't take care of anymore. My mom woke me up and drove me to this house, and as a surprise, I learned we were getting a new Guinea Pig. I was so excited. I was in a grouchy mood since I was extremely tired and got woken up, but I was immediately happy. Once I saw the Guinea Pig I was surprised as to him looking like a baby. But we brought him home, introduced him to Wrex, and Tibby. This new Cavy had the fur and eye color of an albino. While also looking to have some Asain features. We ended up calling him Po. The first problem we had, was that we found out that this family who gave us Po, was feeding him Rabbit pellets the entire time, used the wrong type of Hay, and would use untreated Alpine shavings for bedding. He wouldn't leave his corner, he wouldn't eat. He barely pooped and I rarely saw him drink. I ended up going out with my mom and getting a syringe meant for baby or animal feeding. I would have to Purre the Guinea Pig food, and veggies, mixed with water and Vitamin C tablets. Then I would spend about 10 or so minutes a day, slowly feeding him. I made a mistake that still bugs me to this day. I saw he was being more active and getting better, and I stopped. I saw him eating on his own and thought he'd be good. Didn't want to have him become reliant on liquid food. But on October 11th, I was about to go to bed. Was up late and was around 4AM. I decided to get the Guinea Pigs water or food. I noticed, Po doesn't look right. I picked him up for the first time in a bit and realized how little he weighed and how he barely moved. I woke my mom up and told her. She thought I was just being paranoid like I usually am about their health. But sadly, Po later died. It was around 6:09AM. He had one sudden thrashing and then just dropped. I am an animal lover. I struggle to see an animal suffer. This was hard for me. Besides some Beta fishes who died when I was a kid. I had never lost a pet before. Even as a full-grown adult, I cried. It is incredibly sad to me. Knowing that Po's final moments were painful and rough. Now it's February 28th. My sister told us again about a Guinea Pig one of her former friends was wanting to get rid of. Was over a really dumb reason. It was making too much noise when the lady would come home from work. So we went over there, and she brought us into the kitchen where it was in a very small cage. Smaller than the one we bought for Wrex at the start. You can tell it had never fully been cleaned. At least not in a long time. There were Poop smears on the walls and what looked like really old bedding and poop. Then there was a massive pile-up in the corner of Fur. As I was bringing the cage out, the lady made a comment that sounded awful. She said that once her kid returns from School he's gonna be wondering where the Guinea Pig went. Meaning she never told the kid about it. Just seems needlessly cruel to do. The kid though named this Guinea Pig and I felt it was wrong to change the name of an animal that was already given one. So we now have 5 Guinea Pigs again. We have Wrex, Rocky, Scrappy, Tibby, and now... We have G - Force... Like that movie from around 2010... I find it kind of cute as the kid is likely in elementary school and thought that was such a cool name. We just cleaned out Wrex's and Tibby's cage today and introduced them on neutral ground. But my god. I have never seen a Guinea Pig run. By god does this Pig love to run. He was zooming up and down like crazy. Humping Wrex and Tibby and playing with everything. He went into the secluded Food cage and had a field day with the amount of hay available and the appropriately sized water bottle. I find it sad though. So many people will buy a Guinea Pig. Not realizing the effort and work that is needed. Then they just mistreat them or let them loose outside. People act like these aren't actually living things but just some random toy to buy and get rid of when you're done. Reminds me of people who will rent a dog pretty much. They adopt a dog for Christmas, then afterward they'll return them to the pound. My mom and I may have not been the greatest owners, but I feel like we have managed to do good in the end. I have one Nephew and two Nieces. They absolutely love the Guinea Pigs. The youngest Niece loves to grab food from their hay or food bowl and chase them wondering why they don't want the food. Then sometimes gets sad and has once or twice cried cause she thinks the Guinea Pigs don't like her. So we have to explain it to her. I'm glad there are shelters out there dedicated to Guinea Pigs. I also very much appreciate your KZbin channel, as it has helped us in getting all the Guinea Pig stuff properly prepared and done.

So shocking someone would think it is ok to treat an animal like that!! I bet he becomes very friendly and happy when he's put in a proper cage with room to run, places to hide and other piggies to spend time with.

I've been rescuing rats since I was 15 and the amount of times I've heard "he's a biter" it just goes over my head now 😂 even when they do bite it always stops when they realise their boundaries won't be crossed by me or anyone while they're with me. So many dumped and similar situations to this, its sickening and I wish small animals were more carefully homed by pet shops and back yard breeders. I've never had any want to have a guinea pig, however this particular one im in love with 🥺 he's so beautiful and sassy😂❤ sending you guys so much love, what you all do is amazing!

I love that you do this for these beautiful creatures. I think many people get Guinea pigs from a pet store thinking it's going to be an easy pet, but are not educated about Guinea pig care. They often end up mistreated and crammed into tiny cages. I had Guinea pigs when I was a kid and we built a giant wooden cage, but they spent most of their days outside in the grass. We would just leave them in the backyard and they would run around eating grass and relaxing, but they never disappeared on us. They would come when we called them. As an adult I really don't agree with the idea of having pets.. Animals are not here for our amusement and the pet industry is just sickening! God-bless you for all that you do
