This is a woman who should never be let out of prison or mental institution. She needs to not be locked up forever. When is enough enough? I understand mental illness and special needs but at the end of the day she is a danger to society and we have to stop allowing mental illness to be an excuse. The dr literally said she’s narcissistic and doesn’t care about others. I’m sorry but this is the type of person who cannot be rehabilitated.

I agree she should be moved to a proper psych hospital indefinitely at the end of her sentence so at least she’s getting real help. You know them state or gov paid psych places do the bare minimum. I also think her mother should have committed her much earlier cause obviously it wasn’t just a stage that she was gonna grow out of. I would have been scared for my family that was in the home. I know it has to be hard but you have to think about your family as whole and what’s best. That could have been her sister before she moved out at a younger age. I am so sorry for this family 🙏🏻❤️. Zara you are always so empathetic to these cases. I see you struggle to get things out some time. Thank you for all your hard work. And remember to make sure you are getting enough down time so as not to effect your mental health ❤. This is a struggle sometimes to do the research. I’ve worked with girls like Jessica in group homes, and I can honestly say that 9 times out of 10, the “preference” to interact solely with males is a manipulation tactic. Unless there’s specific trauma regarding women, which of course happens, they view it as an easier way to get what they want or to have someone dote on them. Usually, it’s because they’ve experienced that they can manipulate men easier than women. And they don’t like other women because, to them, it’s competition for attention. (I’m a professional and I’ve taken classes on childhood development and intellectual disabilities, Im not just saying random stuff.)

Hello Zara, this video hit home for me because I have a 31 year old Autistic Son that also has IED, Autism, OCD, and ODD, and he obsesses over certain things of his choice. Such as watching the same movie over and over. He has a behavior episode at least once a year. He used to have like 6 to 10 episodes, so it's getting better. He is on 4 different medications to control his mood. It's like you said that if the attention is not on him, he starts to show signs that an episode is coming on. As a mother, I have to do many things, but I also pay close attention to the signs and try to calm the explosion. I notice that when I have a family gathering and everyone is talking at the same time and he is there, just listening, those are one of the triggers for him. It's like his mind is going a mile a minute. Once he is in the episode, he is totally invested. He tries breaking windows and threatening to hurt himself. He seems to know what he is doing, but in reality, he can not control his actions and behavior. The way I know he is coming out of it is when he apologizes for his behavior and then starts to cry. I pray that I find a solution. I feel said that her mother suffered this horrible death. Pray for the family.

I know Jessica has mental and emotional health issues on a massive scale, and that she needed help, but I cannot feel any sympathy for her after ALL the sickening things she’s done to others, especially the one person who loved her, cared for her and brought her into this world! I hope she is locked away for the rest of her life. She’s just shown over and over again that she’s extremely violent and dangerous! I feel so bad for her family! I can’t begin to fathom the amount of pain and trauma they’ve endured!

Hi! Love your videos ❤ I just wanted to mention a thing; the condition Jessica has, associating numbers and colors, is called synesthesia and not neurasthenia. Synesthesia happens when wires more or less cross in the brain, associating 2 senses that normally don’t have anything in common (like sounds have colors, etc…) and neurasthenia is a deep, seemingly non-ending fatigue and weakness mostly associated with depression for example :3

I'm a mother of an adult child with IED, and we do not try to overindulge or compensate. It's called quieting the storm. These children are like volcanos. They are ready to erupt and you try anything to avoid the behavior episode before it accuses. I can truly empathize with mothers who have to endure this behavior on a daily basis. People with those kinda mental health issues HAVE TO STAY ON THEIR MEDS!!! She was off her medication, that’s an issue. As an RN who works in psych and have for many years now, I’ve seen it time and time again where people stabilize and do well until they stop taking their meds. 🤦🏻‍♀️

@@Me-pq8ep That’s a very loaded question, so I’ll do my best to answer it. So many different factors can lead to mental illness including genetics, traumatic events in one’s life (this could include physical, mental/emotional, and sexual abuse, neglect, abandonment) alcohol and/or drug abuse, hormones (thyroid being a biggie), etc. Many times it’s a combination of the above factors I listed. As far as whether mental illness progresses or not, it depends upon what may have contributed to it and if those things can be modified by lifestyle changes. Unfortunately, mental health isn’t a one size fits all and it can vary from person to person. But, yes, I have seen some people get on medication and stabilize and do very well. For example, my grandmother is a diagnosed schizophrenic, got stabilized on medication and has done very well for at least 20 years. Now, over those 20 years, she has had to have adjustments made to her medication (dose change, change the specific medication, etc). Last time I remember seeing her “sick” was when I was a little girl. She would say off the wall stuff and had auditory and visual hallucinations. I’m in my late 30’s now and you wouldn’t even suspect if you met her now that she is a diagnosed schizophrenic. Hope that helped answer your question some. God bless! 🙏🏼♥️

Mental health diagnoses can sometimes be very vague and difficult to do. Alot of people get misdiagnosed. Psychiatrists often come up with this diagnose after only spending an hour with the patient - sometimes without collateral history. Autism is one that gets frequently misdiagnosed - alot of people may very well have ASPD (anti social personality disorder) or psychopathy. But we dont often think one is such until they commit murder and are deemed "a monster", and in turn also difficult to diagnose someone with this because of the stigma. However in reality, many with this diagnose could be high functioning and hold professional positions in society such as being a surgeon, police officers, CEOs. Jessica seems to have psychopathy/aspd .

I’m only 11 minutes in but if Rita had actually given Jessica’s violent actions appropriate consequences when she was younger I feel like Jessica would have been much better off and more well-adjusted. (Edit:) This is obviously only in conjunction with proper, adequate mental health care. Letting a kid get away with literally whatever they want is NEVER a good idea and never leads to well adjusted adults or even adults who are fun/nice to be around. And not getting someone (*especially* a child) the mental healthcare they need, especially when they need it so desperately, things very often become disastrous- for the individual, but sometimes also for those around them. I’m not blaming the mother, and she really did do what she thought was best. It’s awful that she tried to accommodate everything she could for Jessica and Jessica “repaid” her by doing all that she did.

As a mother myself, I feel like obviously children need their parents to be loving, attentive, devoted, caring and patient. But also, kids *need* boundaries. That's how they learn to cope with the world, society, others, peers, friends, family... Kid's behaviors can be like a bouncing ball, if you throw it and it hits a wall, it will bounce back to you. If you throw it and it faces no obstacles on it's course, it'll keep on bouncing and eventually, you'll loose the ball. That's the metaphor I have in my mind, at least 😅 As much as I love my girls, I know they need to hear "no", "you can't do that" or "stop", contextualize and explain to them why that is. As hard as it can be, I believe preparing them the best I can to face the world is true love, and a parent's ultimate goal. Anyways, Rita did not deserve this. I don't understand how she only got 16 years. I don't believe she can be rehabilitated, she'll be a massive danger to society ! Take care Zara !

There are many different disabilities and it actually can be very hard on the parents to care for a special needs child. To administer medications day and night, change the diapers, clean the feeding tube, drive cross country for doctor’s appointments etc.

What was the judge thinking by reducing her sentence. I saw the little one last year and my heart ached. If she's kept t inside longer it gives the small one a chance to finish studies and probably move to another state. Keep her in so that the family need not look over their shoulder all the time

I was never diagnosed with IED, but when I was growing up I would get into states where I would be very aggressive and I would be trying to cause my mum pain. I felt like I was possessed and it was like I had all this energy going through my arms. I would also be shouting etc. Thankfully my mum knew how to keep herself safe from aggressive kids and how to safely restrain me through her childcare training. I would fight the restraints she held me in, but I was never able to get free. When I calmed down she would release me. She sometimes played music, but that temporarily made me worse, because the music was calming me down and I wanted to stay mad, so I would get more aggressive to fight the calming effect of the music. She would also grey rock me if I was hitting her or otherwise hurting her, so I couldn't get the satisfaction of a reaction if she couldn't get me in a restraint. In later years we worked on trying to release the aggression I was feeling through a more appropriate means. We actually tried actually doing a proper fight, which wasn't great because my mum would get angry and would hurt me, so we dropped that idea quite quickly. Then my mum would hold up a cushion, which I would punch, which worked quite well. Later we moved to boxing gloves and training pads. I absolutely hated that side of myself and for many years I was scared of becoming a domestic abuser if I got married. Looking back I can see I was already perpetuating domestic abuse, which is a hard thing to acknowledge, because you think of people like that as irredeemable monsters, and that's obviously not how you want to think of yourself. I managed to curb it almost through will power. I got really upset about my tendency to act up like that one evening and after that, I just got a better grip on controlling myself. I don't know how I did that though.

Just why didn’t the school do anything to protect Jessica from bullying?? I’ve worked in schools with children who have different needs and this would never be tolerated! School isn’t just about lessons, there’s caring, kindness and respect for each other, most children in my experience, would want to feel grownup and support another child. I loved working with children who had autism, they are a blessing.

I feel its nothing to do with the fact that she's autistic. I have autism and watched horror films for years and its never made me like her. Regulating watching horror films is a really good idea though. It's more to do with her mental health issues that made her unstable. She was wrong to do what she did but she needed support with her anger issues that way it may have prevented the terrible things she ended up doing.

I can understand being a mother and wanting to take care of their child with special needs and different issues, but I'm sorry, but even as caring as I am and as much as I go out away for people, I would have not put up with that crap, especially for so many years, and even to the extent that I allowed that God awful kid to ruin my marriage, ruin my life, and eventually take my life. I'm glad her mother finally realized that she needed to do something different and start living her life but unfortunately it was just too late. And then she let her daughter know which probably angered her even more and she ended up basically enabling her daughter, coddling her, and creating that monster that eventually killed her. No she can’t be rehabilitated shes too far gone I have worked with many individuals with intellectual disabilities and sadly majority of them are stuck in their ways and most of them had parents and family members that didn’t discipline them because they are scared of them or because of them having a disability they felt they couldn’t discipline them so a lot of the learn at an early age there is no repercussions for their bad behaviors and they feed off of that so when they come to facilities we get the bad end of things and only thing we can do is give them structure and routine to minimize bad behaviors

Psych here ( well about to be Soon ) I don’t wanna be nit-picky but IQ assessments such as the wais are one of the most statistically reliable tools we use in psychological assessment iQ tests are essential in a number of assessments - we use them to both rule out and conform a diagnose I understand your well meaning but saying things like ‘ these tests are not reliable ‘ not only contradicts all the available research it’s also spreading misinformation and stigma on a tool that clinicians need to use for a wide range of assessments . Its sort of like me ( who is not a medical doctor) saying ‘ I don’t know about x rays I think there fake because there is no such thing as a Normal chest x ray ‘

With all due respect, because your channel is awesome, but Jessica didn'tLOSE her mother. She killed her. It was a choice she made. I realize she has all these mental problems, but she still knows right from wrong, or she wouldn't bother to apologize to anyone, ever. If the prison is anything like the ones in the US, she's probably not getting a lot of mental help and counseling, and is in that wing because it has heightened security for the women with mental illnesses. Not because I think things should be easier on her, but if they ever plan on letting her out, she needs to be in a hospital. Getting real help. I don't know if they have what is basically prison hospitals there, but she definitely needs more help than shes going to get in prison. Shes going to learn to control her temper better the older she gets and will probably learn to hide her true feelings from others and if so, will be a bigger monster when she gets out than she is now. This story was wild, and you did a great job covering it!
