The 2005 NBA Finals pitted the Detroit Pistons against the San Antonio Spurs. Two of the best teams in the early 2000's, they also featured two of the best big men in the game at the time, Tim Duncan and Rasheed Wallace.

In my opinion, it was the best Finals series after MJ left at that time.

I remember that series. I was hoping spurs meet pistons in the finals the year they beat the lakers. I felt the spurs were the better team than pistons and they were. Lowest rated nba finals because both team played great D but we had big shot bob. I remember with less than a minute left spurs down and horry hits a 3 with few seconds left to get the game winning bucket in game 7. You might wanna check out the 2014 spurs finals run. THAT series run was epic.

@@johnathanstrong1496 are u serious? I’m a spurs fan and I thought that finals was not fun to watch at all. Most exciting was game 7 when big shot Bob being clutch near the end of that game. Other than that it was like watching the spurs vs nets finals. Boring and knowing the spurs were gonnna whip that a$$

Duncan couldn't elevate at all during that series, playing on two sore ankles. He couldn't challenge Sheed's shot, and at the other end the Pistons had three guys who could challenge his shot. The Pistons should've given Sheed the ball more, instead of the Hamilton curls and the Chauncey drives that the Spurs routinely neutralized. At the end, what determined the series was Ginobili decisively winning his matchup against Prince, and Robert Horry's Game 5 heroics. Sheed helped out by doubling Ginobili off Horry at the end of Game 5, gambling that Ginobili would panic. Nope!

Tim Duncan was the most important player if he didn't demand so much attention Ginobili wouldn't have been able to go off the way he did

Detroit was cheated, we should've won back to back titles that year but the Pistons COULDN'T be the face of the NBA

The hell you talking about? The spurs were never the face of the league even during the dynasty days and it was fine because the Spurs hate attention they don't need that mess. If anything Bryant, Lebron, Shaq, Iverson , Anthony were more of the face of the league back then.

Did I say the spurs were the face of the NBA? NO! But the NBA will mention the Spurs WAY before talking about the Pistons...and that's Fact
@July9326
@July9326 9 ай бұрын
@orianalston8815 Sure the Spurs were mentioned more than the Pistons but there was obviously a good reason why they were. The Spurs were a DYNASTY with 5 total championships won during their run meanwhile the Pistons were a 1 and done title team so explains that. So obviously a team that wins that much won't go ignored don't you think? If anything the team that was overrated and brought up too much was the annoying 08 Celtics team who act as if they were a dynasty themselves when they only got 1 title with a superteam. I'd take the 04 championship Pistons over them anyday of the week.

You totally missed the point. My response was to the comment about the spurs being the face of the NBA (WHIXH I NEVER SAID) The spurs compared to the pistons are saints ( just an example) Detroit has a bad reputation. That was the reason for my ORIGINAL comment. Now if we're going to compare franchises I'm DETROIT All day. Let's not really compare the 2 franchise because everybody who's a real basketball fan knows Detroit is the more exciting of the 2

Game seven the Pistons for some stupid reason went away from Rasheed. He was playing so damned well that I could not fathom why they stopped dropping it into the post with him. Guy was shooting a great percentage with that fade away. Timmy’s got great defense but he was still shooting over him. Spurs fan here happy with the result but I was flabbergasted that he stop getting touches. Lost the pistons a final series with that decision.

Sheed vs Duncan in college was crazy because Sheed was the #1 ranked HS recruit, while Duncan was a guy from the USVI who only had 2 offers.

Tim Duncan played 4 years in college and 19 years in the NBA. Two total coaches. That will never be duplicated.
