a world of kindness ... without exploiting animals... this is possible if everyone think about it and consider animals as sentient beings
@Daniel-rd6st8 күн бұрын
The thing is, if not for whool or meat, why would you even breed sheep or other farm animals? You wouldnt. Those animals would simply disappear. Now in my eyes that dosent mean that you cant farm animals, while giving them a good life. The main problem is factory farming, which has grown out of hand. If we could establish animal protecion laws, that give farm animals the neccesary space and eviourment to allow them to fullfill their natural instincts, they wouldnt have a bad life. Of course that would also mean, that animal products would get quite a bit more expensive.
@rachelbraun88187 күн бұрын
@@Daniel-rd6st Even if many avenues remain to be explored in a world where animals are no longer considered as goods, there are avenues of solutions already materialized in places which help us to plan ahead. More and more so-called “farmed” animals are becoming companions: rabbits, donkeys, horses, etc. Animals in shelters or in semi-freedom could lead a happy life while contributing to the maintenance of wooded areas or pastures that they would graze. They would of course benefit from shelter, care and food if necessary. Besides, we do not eat dogs and cats and they have not yet disappeared.
@Daniel-rd6st7 күн бұрын
@@rachelbraun8818 Yes, we (well the western world) dosent eat dogs or cats, because they have uses outside of farming and they have become strong social companions over time. But they also dont require a lot of money or space to keep, unlike a sheep or a cow. You can keep a cat in a flat, but for most far animals you need quit a bit more space. And there is no real reason to use them to graze on pastures, usually wild animals will do that job just fine, unless they have been wiped out of course.

Humans are bad and cruel, they only care about their own ass and they don't care about the lives of others, that's why I'm not interested in damn people,
@trevellyann7 күн бұрын
We're going to affect animals, whether we keep them domestically or not. To use the plant fiber alternatives, to grow more produce to use instead of meat, etc, that means we have to take up more land. A LOT more land. And wild animals will either be pushed out, starved out, or outright killed for the threat they pose to humans' domestic crops. Not to mention the animals killed by pesticides -- organic doesn't mean pesticide free, it just means they use organic pesticides, which are still deadly, and also we need insects to be in the world and one of the biggest indicators for the trouble our planet is in now is the fact that insects are dying off. Not to mention the human suffering alongside that -- take a quick look through the human rights violations of banana companies, just for starters. There aren't a lot of good answers.

Most sheep are sheared for their welfare and it actually costs more to shear them than the farmers get for the wool. Wool is an amazing product, not harming the sheep, being available for us to use after it's kept then warm over the winter. It's biodegradable and didn't take tons of water or round the world shipping to produce, it doesn't need major manufacturing and can be processed at home for free. It doesn't get much better than wool. God's designs are always best.

Alex is an example of “the one that got away,” not intentional abuse. Humans spent thousands of years developing breeds of sheep to fulfill different needs, be it for milk production, fast growing lambs for food, lanolin for various products, or extraordinary wool. Most sheep absolutely MUST be sheared once a year for their welfare, as their wool is always growing. When a sheep escapes from a gather and misses is yearly shearing, the wool just keeps growing and getting heavier, felting into huge mats that pull on the skin and can restrict movement. Wool is an astonishing fiber that is sustainable and far more eco friendly than the petroleum-based “wool alternatives.”

Wool doesn't have to mean cruelty. There are a lot of places working with small farms that treat their sheep kindly, and this fibre is still unparalleled in being eco-friendly, compostable, thermal-regulator and barely needing to be washed. The alternatives suggested here are mostly plastic, which doesn't help the environment at all. Simply put: stop buying fast fashion, invest in garment companies that *really* care about where their fibres come from (and if you hear the expression "vegan leather" without any further explanation, it simply means "plastic.") Buy fewer, but higher quality, items that'll last you years and years.

Truly disappointed in the dodo for spreading misinformation about wool, a natural fiber that is water resistant and good for the environment unlike most wool alternative which are largely made of plastic and can come from sweatshop. A neglected sheep is not representative. We DO need better rights for animals, especially farm ones, but this doesn't encourage that at all.
@sojabursche7 күн бұрын
I partially agree. There is a lot of animal mistreatment in the wool production which is why it is important to source wool from ethically good places, and not to just take the cheapest. As seen in the video you have to shave the sheep or they can’t live; and then you might as well sell the wool to get money for food and medication for if the sheep get sick. Also yeah the synthetic wool is bad for the environment.
