Glad all your imports are doing well 👍 The Florida Beauty doesn’t need a moss pole, just some support sticks as it grows. It also needs pretty high light to maintain its colour and to not grow with large internodal spaces 😀🇨🇦

Adding Silica into your nutrients may help your albo from browning the white leaf parts. It adds strength to cells and also helps resist pests along with aiding in nutrient uptake. It does raise ph, so add it to water before nutrients, then adjust ph back to normal before adding your nutrients.

I'm impressed that your new plants have recovered so well, They look like they're from a shop down the road instead of Indonesia. This video proves that if we follow your advice, success to one degree or another will be our reward. (BTW...I clicked on the unboxing video but what came up was an infomercial. Don't know how that happened, but it was a disappointment.)

Thanks for the update. All well and good to see them arrive, but I was curious as to their longer term survival. Re: moss poles: I would say the general rule is any plant that produces aerial roots will appreciate a moss pole. Well, you could use a stick with rough bark, I suppose, but conventionally the moss pole is the answer. Those roots indicate a plant that climbs toward the light, using those roots to grab onto any rough surface, typically a tree...uh, did I mention 'jungle'? They also absorb moisture, but their major function is support for that all important jungle light competition. I confess to letting my trailing plants...uh...trail....but that's the reason they can wind up not looking so good after a while. Some Philodendrons seem to tolerate draping over the sides of a pot, and some are not climbers at all, the lack of aerial roots being a rather obvious clue. But the larger-leaf Philodendrons, and the ubiquitous Monstera, wind up sprawling like drunken monkeys if they don't have something to hug. Tradescantia absolutely needs to creep over soil and put down roots at nearly every node. This will keep it from looking scraggly, with bare spots. Of course, most of us can't really have a pot that's six feet wide, so you just have to cut it back from time to time to keep it pushing out new growth. Frustrating for the Trad, no doubt. My only really successful trailing plant is a 'string of pearls', which just grows and grows, making hundreds of pearls (if only...). It's about three feet long now and I'm either going to have to rig a taller support or start cutting it back. It too would be more content spreading over a wide area, but apparently is content with its lot in life. Ask your plants what they want and if you listen carefully, they'll tell you. Thank you, Richard, for sharing your plant life with us.

I had my Peru on a moss pole for eons and it was OK but, like yours, wasn't really doing much except sending out runners. So just last week I decided to take it off the pole, propagate it in water and I'll eventually repot it in a hanging planter. Also I'm happy that Whipple Ways are finally available in Sydney at a VERY reasonable price. All the best with yours! And yes a moss pole for this one is a great idea 👍🏼 I have the Florida Ghost and I agree about the unfurling of the leaves...it's awesome to watch them open up. I have mine supported by a stake rather than a moss pole (out of necessity to not have yet another moss pole to water) and it seems OK as long as it's supported by something 👌🏼

Hi Rich! I think the Anthurium Silver Blush is my favourite- although all are spectacular. What a gorgeous plant!! I would definitely put the Florida on a moss pole. It may be a good idea to have it go up, rather than out because they do get pretty wild. A neighbour had one and it seemed to take over like your (any) Hoya does. Plus- as it reaches the top you can make more plants if you do not want to extend the pole. Win-win. Excellent video, once again. Thank you!!

Your new leaf on your Florida beauty has loads of variegation. They start off in shades of green and then lighten up with age. It will need a pole when it stops being a shape you like, simply because the size of the leaves may eventually snap the main stem. Plus they get a bit wobbly. Cracking plant though. This and my ghost are 2 of my faves and have probably given me the least drama. Enjoy.

I got a karstenianum (not Peru) in early 2023. It didn’t really do much at first - maybe gave a little leaf that was funky or died off before unfurling. But this spring it started to give me reasonble leases and when the leave unfurles, I can already see a new leaf starting to form. I don’t have it on mosspole

I can’t vouch for it personally(don’t have an Albo/Thaicon) but I’ve heard good things about silica supplementation for highly variegated houseplants. Apparently it helps strengthen the tissue, and makes it less likely that large white spots will crisp up. Might be worth a try if you ever see any going for cheap!

Nice recovery! I love the Tiger Albo and the Florida Beauty 🥰 Unfortunately, the variegated plants you’ve got have chimeric variegation (I think that’s what it’s called), which is unstable and it’s not so much influenced by light. It’s a genetic mutation and I think the plant strives to get rid of it as it grows 😄 If it reverts, usually it means it’s going to grow all green from now on. What you can do is chop back to the variegated node and hope it grows leaves with some variegation again. But I’d wait for the next couple of leaves on a plant, just to be sure it’s really reverted. Sometimes the stem has some variegation on one side and the nodes coming out on that side shoot out variegated leaves
@lisamac8503Ай бұрын
Interesting information I am not into variegation but I know its a huge rage right now I always think the plant looks like its dying 0: From my experience the variegated plants always appear to have issues (gifts not my purchases) Lovely at first then go downhill Also more prone to pests I often wonder because its an unnatural situation for the plant Just my thoughts
@DaphneTriesPlantsАй бұрын
@@lisamac8503 yes, you’re very right! It’s unnatural and maybe that’s why such plants are not common in the wild. I imagine it’s like albino animals - it’s a weakness that doesn’t let them survive for long. I also think a lot of variegation, especially the yellow (aurea) and mint type, often makes the plants look unwell. But I like the white, creamy and pink variegation. Some plant parents swear by adding silica to their nutrients to help with the browning and pest resistance but I don’t have any experience with that. The only chimeric variegated plant I have is a Thai Constellation Monstera and I’ve heard they don’t revert but because it’s created through tissue culture a lot of them have root rot issues, so I’m looking out for that
@ulrickts28 күн бұрын
I really want a rare type of adenia, but the only place I can find it presently is Thailand (I'm in US) for nearly $200 before shipping. Because it's a desert plant, it may survive in a scarce situation for a while but I'm more concerned about customs bouncing it even if they claim it'll have a "phytosanitary certificate" I'm not sure if that applies to all countries or there's further import duties that have to be cleared.

Hi, love your channel, glad your imports are doing well. (No surprise ) 😊 Have a question I hope you'll answer, am writing here as this is your current video. Thanks so much, am in a scary plant place. I need to transplant some ZZs, have run out of space. I've rescued some from big box stores that have put out great looking new shoots. I realize they come out of big rhizomes, not roots, and this sounds truly risky... What are my chances I can cut away the beat - up parent stalks from rhizome & combine with another ZZ? Have seen a ton of videos on ZZs but have never seen any one try this. Grateful for any suggestions. PS - potting into orchid soil mix.❤❤❤
