Why is it that every Ford Mustang/Shelby GT500 video I go to, there's always some Government Motors loving Ford bashing moron who thinks he has to justify the 80K+ you have to pay for a Corvette ZO6 (or a C6, $110,000 xD) by bashing Mustangs? I'm guessing its because Corvette lovers are upset by their videos getting bashed by the Exotic fans. Pity, poor GM just doesn't know if its a muscle or exotic. Atleast Ford isnt confused about its type, that's for sure.

I4s, V6s, V8s, V10s, and V12s... they all produce greater power in line with more cylinders. everything being equal (engine technology, supercharging, turbo, etc) the higher capacity engine will always win in a straight line. that's why engine capacity increases in company model ranges as you go to high trim models. weight and handling, on the other hand, is another story.

@Aliasify If it's the best Ford can do, please make mine a Chevy. I've had Corvettes, Camaros and 5 Mustangs and the Chevys were always the most satisfying cars to drive. I traded my 2008 Mustang Bullitt with 7,500 miles on it for a Camaro when the Bullitt got beat by a Chevy Cobalt. Ford could make a competitive car to the Vette. Why don't they? Answer they don't need to, Ford guys buy all the Mustangs Ford can make even if they are embarassing...it's all about profit for FOMOCO.

lol jermery clarkson ran way faster than this in a 280HP acura nsx on top gear. lol this car has way more HP and is way newer. american cars suck. they belong in the garbage. their only place is on the drag strip ONLY because they have truck motors in them because the US designers cant figure out what TECHNOLOGY means. anyways only american car i would drive is a vette. HONDA for the win.

so i can guarantee you that there are ATLEAST 1/3 of Americans who are nice and able to socialize. it is the same for every country there are jerks and there are nice people. i have met atleast lots of Americans and less than half have been rude jerks. but i will thank you for that comment that the classygroove guy made. i will defend anyone who deserves it, but i will not acknowledge anyone who shits on other people. nice talking to ya.

yea lets see them build trucks. which trucks are better quality and perform better, that's where Europe falls. also remember, we mostly run trucks in North America so.. probably most of our vehicles have a truck like quality somewhere. oh, and if North America sucks so bad, how come we have two of the world top cars? Saleen S7 and the SSC Ultimate Aero TT. i don't hate Europe, i just think that North America deserves SOME credit where it is due. And yes i am Canadian defending USA.

the ones that talk bull shit about this car!! u have to see the times other cars did in laguna seca....and the Shelby GT-500 is an exelent car by having 104 sec lap,,,,,cause a porche cayman has 103.... and the cayman is said to have more advantages and stability.....but with the times u can say is a very fast car and is getting to a very high performance car... i would definately buy a car like this....... American

It's not like you're going to pay cash for the damn thing LOL. And a "suspension setup" won't make it almost even. Have you even seen the HPE550 Camaro? It has a Supercharger, highly tuned,a mixture of 98 Octane in the fuel, costs $13,000 more than the GT500 and was only faster than by 0.3 in 0-60. So no silly Camaro fan, a simple tune won't do it, keep dreaming. Face it the GT500 is King Of Muscle.

@racoonpooon Those weren't anywhere near stock mustangs though, they were race built cars that cost 80k base. The weight distribution is a lot more balanced, It's over 900 pounds lighter than this and I'm pretty sure it has a live rear axle.

I love that Shelby. I'd seriously take it over any Camaro or Corvette. But that's all personal opinion of course. What's FACT is that you seriously can't compare the ZR-1 to this. 2 very different cars with different motives.

i love te new mustang desighn i see why they did that. the front of the mustang was covered so the front was not arodynamic so they changed it to the grill only to have the covered to give it tha classic shelby/mustang look

just so you know, just because a motor is a V8 or V12 doesent mean it will produce MAJOR amounts of power. the size of the motor doesent really matter, but the power and torque does.

Even when 68 hp down to GT500, Roush 427R is better ride and Im sure it would do better hotlap time on any circuit apart from Daytona oval :)

2010 GT500 has much better handling than last years KR. The guys at Top Gear made a video about the 2008 GT500 and bashed on it.

...F body cars had poor fit n finish, rode too low, back seats way too impractical, yet the door to open them was twice the size of the Fox body and SN95 Mustangs. 85-95 Stangs, had the better/stronger 8.8 posi rears for beating at the strip, a true dual exhaust,(yeah, they didnt sound a like milk trucks comin down the road like my buddys' GTA, tighter all around car by far, roller camshaft, superior fuel injection system, and totally n surely paved the way for todays monster hp cars...

You name it, They stopped making the Camaro for 8 years, I could do in an hour on even a DOHC engine, not to mention the 5.0, what would take you a full 8 hours to do to any F body up till "02, mainly since the engine was halfway under the dash that was 2 feet long. the early cars... no Chevy guy is gonna win tht arguement, no stick with the 350, weak trans n rear, TUNED PORT INJ. advertized on the lower sill was a joke, heck Ford was using sequential port right of the bat in 1986. All F body...

Al this BS about which company makes the better car, is exactly that. What are ya'll in grade school!! Each company makes great performance cars and they all had the duds or disappointments. Bottom line... Hemi's ruled the early days from the factory, Chevy ruled the streets in the muscle car era... lotta parts, cheaper, better engines. But since the mid 80's its been all Ford.Early IROCS cost $5000 more than an lx 5.0 and still got dusted, an abundance of performance parts, eng,susp, braking..

@NobleM15fan The majority of performance cars come out of Europe, so the "benchmark" track (Nurburgring) is appropriately located in central Europe. Also, many European cars are not road legal in the States, so there is little point shipping something like a Radical SR8 to Laguna Seca if it will never be sold here. The reason Lotus doesn't test at the 'Ring is b/c real gearheads know and appreciate the fact that Lotus' are solely about handling and fun, and not about numbers.

@magnum9987 Your just proving my point. The Top spec mustang si the same price as the lowest spec corvette. Once again, the corvette is a 2 seater designed for performance only. While the gt500 is a sports coupe that can take 4 comfortably. Im not saying the Gt500 is better then a corvette, your quite simple arent you? Your obviously a 'vette fanboy, so wont listein to reason. How about you compare the ford GT to the camaro while your at it. Or an S2000 to an silvia?

I highly doubt that the KR was meant as a showpiece(though they probably tried to use that to justify the price), seeing as how "KR" stands for "King of the Road". Not only was it more powerful, it also had custom tires and suspension tuned to be more "sporty". Then there's the gimmicky hoodpins meant to keep the lightweight CF hood from flying off at high speeds. That thing was meant to show off. The problem was, it didn't have much to show off. But all that's changed, as far as I can tell.

The new 2011 560HP Z28 debuts in late 2010. It will utilize more aluminum to shed weight with an expected curbweight around 3500lbs (GT500 3900lbs) The Aluminum 6.2 Liter LSA will be dropped in along with the clutch and flywheel from the Vette. It will also use GM's magnetic selective IRS, and track tuned LSD from the CTSV. GM said it would be priced competively with the GT500, but with that suspension, engine and LSD its worth paying a little more than a GT500.

Read between the lines. I only mentioned Mustangs because that was one of the subject cars. The real justification is that there's pretty much nothing in the Z06's price bracket that can outperform it. The only car that comes to mind in the under-100k group is the Dodge Viper, and it's around 90k. And when Mustang guys talk about the price of Corvettes, they seem to forget the 80k disaster that was the GT500KR. But I'm actually loving the current GT500. I think It's quite impressive.

@WelcomeToCarnate So...basically you justify spending that much money just to beat up on a car in the $30k bracket? By design concept, the only Mustang competitor for the Vettes was the Cobra...which wasn't really a big deal for the Jake Crowd until about '03 when all hell broke loose John Coletti style. Not hating on Vettes. I love Vettes actually...I just think your argument needs significant refinement. No disrespect intended, though.

Actually, the Z06 is around 76k, unless you want to bring dealer markup into this. As I am a Z06 owner myself, I can say that all the justification we need is the ability to murder stock 'Stangs anytime, anywhere. Hell, a stock Z06 can put the hurt on several 100k+ exotics. Not hating on Mustangs, just calling it like I see it. Also, GM never called the Corvette a musclecar or an exotic. It's ALWAYS been a sportscar/psuedo-Supercar. It seems you're the one who's confused here.

"portly caveman mobile"? i dont know if you've looked under your corvette, but your rolling on leaf springs. yes, the same suspension used in the 70's just like the solid rear. and if you payed attention to racing at all, you'd know that the mustang with the antiquated "solid rear" outhandles cars with more advanced suspensions. helping it win 2 KONI challenges with maybe a 3rd this year, a 2008 FIA GT4 win, and could possibly win this years SPEED world challenge.

Ford has built a mid engine car before, in the 1960's Ford had the GT40 (which btw killed Ferrari in the Le Mans 24hr) There is also the Saleen S7 and the remake of the GT40, the Ford GT. If you count kit cars then the Factor 5 (FFX?) kit car is a good example as well. All wheel drive? Not sure about the S7 they might have done AWD on the TT model but I don't think any of them are AWD I know the Ford GT and GT40 are RWD.

it dont nedd to be a carbon fiber monocoque. a bmw 1, 3 5 or 7 series are just like other cars on paper, but then, they handle and perform better than the other cars in the same class, just because they are proper built, and they dont have LSD, large tires or anything, but sure they are a proper chasis, when i say bmw, i can say a lotus, nissan Z, even the new KOREAN hyunday genesis... C'mon man, a live rear axle in a top spec 2009 with 500hp car isn't right, specialy when it looks so good.

The jag is a luxury car, it has to be heavy, and is not suposed to be a true sportscar, its more of a long distance cruiser, never a track car. And to be honest I dont belive that the XKR is slower than a mustang in a track, i think it could be faster. Dont get me wrong, the mustang is not the problem, THE PROBLEM IS THE POEPLE WHO THINKS THE MUSTANG IS BETTER THAN IT REALY IS, thats the point. It a bargain 500hp car, and thats it, its not as good as it looks.

Well its like the Konessige (idk how the name is spelled) has more hp than the ZR1 and Viper ACR but yet both cars do much better on the track. Also the CCX cost soooo much more than the ZR1 and ACR combined. Some times its not about track number but how the car makes you feel, and im sure the CCX makes a person feel alot better Just as a side note, i hate Vetts but i do love the Viper, but not the ACR lol. True car lovers don't care about numbers they care about how it feels.

um the AC Cobra was never supercharged and it was just that, a Cobra. they didn't swap anything into it. if you mean the AC Ace that became the Cobra, then yes, they did swap an engine into it. but the Cobra was totally different than the ace with a wider stance and the whole car was redesigned to become the iconic Shelby Cobra. also, there is NO car in the old Shelby lineup of the 60s that is supercharged. the twin supercharged Cobra wasn't a production car, it was Mr. Shelby's personal car.

not enough. they might have tightened the dampers, but the anti-roll bars, the brakes (up until 2008) and the diff were identical to the standard mustang. the new one seems to be a better effort, but we'll see when they compare the roush to the shelby. roush has the reputation of changing everything important to the car, whereas shelby always had the reputation of simply swapping engines/fitting a supercharger. look at the ac cobra if you think i'm wrong.

um can you possibly show me a Mustang GT that comes stock with the iron 5.4L Modular? because you're implying that the Mustang came with it without the supercharger. and what the fuck are you talking about? all Shelby ever did since they were founded was fit a supercharger? Carroll Shelby founded the company back in the early 60s and the Mustang GT500 hadn't been supercharged until the 2007 GT500.

why go far? you got the GT500 right in the video and the cayman, the cayman was faster yet its far less powerful. even some idiot earlier said the GT's faster cuz it has a 4.1 0-60.........proves all americans care about is straight line speed. oh and what does the viper and corvette's cylinders have anything to do with the argument? the viper's engine is an 8.4, while the porsche 911 GT2's is a 3.6......thats less than half and the car is still faster.

No, in Cayman, it's in the middle. Engine over the rear axel is a bad thing. Yes, you have better traction from standstill, but in corners, 911s' are way too unbalanced 37/63 weight ration of 911 turbo is just terrible. I kind of wonder how it's possible for such an unbalanced car to be only by 0.3 sec slower than Nissan GT-R around Laguna Seca. People say GT-R cheats laws of physics, but BULL SHIT. 911s' cheat laws of physics. Furthermore GT-R has a torque vectoring diff for better stability.

$50,000? what are you talking about? it's a $14,000 package on top of the $30,000 car. and even if it was over $50,000 it would be worth it because they're the only company that changes the suspension, diff, and the brakes to be able to handle the monster under the hood. all shelby does is fit a supercharger and tighten the dampers basically, and you idiots are intoxicated simply because of the power it produces. power is absolutely nothing without control.

Vettes have plastic too. And people say the Mustang's interior is better than the Camaro's. And the Z06 and Viper ACR can destroy a GTR too, around the track at least. Also don't count out the SSC Ultimate Aero, upcoming SSC Tuatara, Hennessey Venom GT, Saleen S7 TT, and Mosler MT900 (and MT900S) which would destroy any Datsun or even any Ferrari any day

I have an 05 F 150 that has Many after market parts that has it putting out about 755 HP,its low and loud so when all the imports rol up along side they want to try it out OK here goes i nail the throttle bring the 256x 18 to a sizzle and then it catches and im gone you should see the eyes when they catch up LOL.

@americanman911 yes you are right until ford revised the gt 500 again for 2011. That version can beat a corvette and if you pour say 10-15k into loosing weight and adding other things that would put more power down effeciently. You could possibly have a worthy opponent to take on the zo6. That is very commendable by ford/shelby.

If this car was all wheel drive it would smoke every car out there. The weight distribution is messed up, front is too heavy with a 5.4L Supercharged V8 while the back is so light, the car has more traction if it's mid engined. Engine sits on top of the rear wheels when it accelerates it has more traction.

Not a bad time for a car like this. Lots of wasted power though. The Nissan GTR has a worse power/weight ratio and is more than 4.5seconds faster! (that's eternity) Even a Cadillac CTS-V with 10hp/t less is faster than the mustang. Seems like the mustang still is a muscle car rather than a sports car.

actually, some imports are supercharged also. Holdens are imports, and the Vauxhall VXR8 Bathurst has a Walkinshaw supercharged LS3. also, Mercedes-Benz is an import company, and they're previous 5.4L was supercharged in some models. hell, the upcoming Mercedes-Benz SLC Gullwing is suspected to have a supercharged version of the 6.2L V8.

oh and if you wanna stay on topic; GT500; engine size: 5.4 horsepower: 540 torque: 510 cayman; engine size= 3.4 horsepower= 320 torque= 273 with the cayman having almost half the size, power and torque........you'd think the GT500 is faster? WELL, according to motortrend's feature the cayman's lap is FASTER than the GT500 so blow me.

True, they should have replaced the live rear axel with rear independent suspension. The SS Camaro and the Shelby GT500 are both awesome cars and if I had the money I'd have the following: SS Camaro Convertible, Corvette ZR1, Shelby GT500, Challenger SRT8 and Viper SRT10 Converitble.

@americanman911 The corvette zo6 starts around 75k. The shelby starts at 48k and after the few options and destinations fees etc etc. You can walk out of their with a shelby for 60k. And you can quote me on that. Thats -15k less than the zo6 more than a enough room to play catch up. :)

thunderbird, all mustangs can do to get a car to compete with any other muscle car is to strap it with a supercharger. its the easy way out to gain alot of horsepower and is far from the best car ever built, especially the ones with forced induction who last 80k miles and then start to have problems.

Average more powerful car owner will mostly use its power for accelerating or for higher speeds on the highway. Most of those cars never see a track or go under a intense cornering at high speeds. So the car doesn't have a alot more expensive suspension from the factory.

It so unfortunate. I really like how american cars look. This car should be about to handle as well as an M3. I own and 135i and I love it, but I actually prefer the look of the mustang and the camaro if they could handle well and have nicer interiors I would buy...its a no brainer ford!!

yea, a 3000 suspension setup or just a simple tune would make it almost even. And with the extra money you save from not buying the GT500, you could...buy a nice TV, a 360, and a nice home theater system and still have the most badass muscle are sitting in your drive way. Camaro ftw

lmfao, yes i have, and i'm also aware that the new one is lightyears ahead of the one they tested, but the facts remain the same. all shelby ever did since they were founded was fit a supercharger to a mustang and jack the price up a few grand. and yes, given the choice i'd take the m3 anyday.

go see the new 2011 best drivers car Z06. In 10 laps the new Z06 will be coming around to lap this big heavy tank. The new ZL1 Camaro should take care of this Mustang also :-) cant wait to see that. But it does well for a Ford and a mustang at that

lets see... 500hp for what? for being slower than a porsche with 300hp? i dont get it, but americans love it. Despite that mustang have a rear suspension less sofisticated than a honda civic, i dont understand how you can have a car that slow with 500hp,

you need to look at volume too, theres something to be said about an exculsive car anywhere. Also the fords made in europe have very litte/nothing to do with americans and it could be the european parts of ford that save ford usa .... sooo

Motortrend is a bunch of nationalists. They have liked American cars for everything for the past few years, and we all know we have been making crap. This however is a proper car. I really like the 10 mustang, and the GT500 is amazing.

Ever heard of Camshafts? How about High Compression Pistons? With only that and supporting mods the new Camaro would be pumping the same amount of power. I've driven the Camaro SS and the GT500 and the Camaro handles better and has way more potential.

Head to Head, the Hennessey SS Camaro and the GT500 are neck and neck in terms of raw performance. I'd go for the GT500 as it would still be covered under Ford's warranty. Hopefully Chevy will release a Z28 version of the new Camaro.

@anocera17 Not the fastest mustang buddy. Also, ford improved the gt500 this year (stuck in 2010 huh?) so I do belive it now has the power, and handling to beat a corvette gs, which is still more expensive.

It seems like European and Japanese cars are staying behind, if you look up "laguna seca production car record you will see the acr, the zr1 and the z06 carbon" even the z06 carbon is faster than the Nissan gtr now. Awesome

oh and for the record i didnt mention anywhere which is the better car all i said was the caymans faster and most real sports cars manage to be faster than most american "muscle" cars with half the "muscle".

It'd be faster and more controlled around corners if it had rear independent suspension. The Roush Mustang with its upgraded suspension is actually faster around a track than the Shelby GT500, even though it produces less HP.

The Porsche Cayman S (320hp) was quicker by almost then 1.5 seconds then the GT500 (500hp). The GT500 has obviously too much weight and too little traction with the solid rear axle. But the V8 sounds great!

Even though the CTS-V costs more, has slightly more power, and is built more for the track. And is also hideous. Camaros rule but Cadillacs suck Plus the 2013 Shelby GT500 destroys even the Camaro ZL1

at the end of the day, the base model corvette is faster than the fastest mustang soo not sure what your point is. and you put about $6000 into a corvette it would smoke any GT500

By looking at the wheel he's correcting oversteer all the time and everytime he does that he loses time on a track. It handles a lot better than I thought it would be thought.

I see you watched Top Gear or Good Bad Ugly... But that was a 2006 GT and this one is a 2010 model. But still, this price is dangerously close to that of BMW M3 and Mercedes C63 AMG.

You are correct, they are cheap.. in price, not in quality. And you are wrong, they are not slow. Mustangs rule.. They're way better than anything Chevy makes.

well yeah I'm not saying that such technology is bad or doesn't work the thing is that Asian cars come out with a different technology that make the car better but complex

I hope they added an active rear supension. The first Shelby that they re-released was an epic fail. But seriously, get The Stig to drive it and maybe I'll be impressed.

its lost its look of the hard bulky style which i really liked, the front of the car know looks like some streeting raceing car =SS and the back has jsut gotten smoother

Keeps getting better with each new version...Now if they improve the brakes and lose a little weight...it could do some real damage to all those expensive sports cars

I like how he's just driving relaxed and not really enjoying it. Most people won't even sit in a car that fast, and he's not really effected by it at all.

in my views its not a real mustang unless its a Shelby cobra looks a little odd ill get use to it 4:45 on is SICK i still like the look of the 2002 WS6 way better

I bet Carol Shelby is going to make an even better SuperSnake Frome This thing. It looked like he was having a hard time steering through some of the turns.

The Cayman is almost 1.5 seconds quicker around Laguna Seca. That counts more then acceleration, because the fun is in the corners and not the straight line.

Doesn`t look like it`s the best handling car i`ve seen.Lots of power and would do great a a straight road but round the track it would HAVE to be a Roush for me

true, this is the best handling shelby, but the roush is still so much better. if i had the choice between them, i would get the Roush and STS twin turbos to it ;)

This is barely a second faster than the Camaro SS. I bet the Camaro would be faster than the GT500 with the same amount of power because of it's suspension set up.

That was the 2009 GT500. This one has 540HP to the Flywheel and 500 To the Wheels.

i like this car but as far as corvette being the only car thats faster, what about the Viper line? the ford GT? the saleen S7? more costly but still...
