While we know from "Big Bang Theory" that Mary ultimately doesn't end up having another baby, since it was established that she only had three children, it's still heartbreaking to learn of her miscarriage, especially in a normally lighthearted sitcom.

I thought sheldon had perfect pitch.... Just Apparently not on the violin.
@anyutita10 ай бұрын
@ahmedhussain999 pitch has nothing to do with it at this stage. It's all about coordination. Violin is an extremely difficult instrument, even before you take intonation into account, and pretty much impossible to learn the basics of without a teacher giving you direct feedback and often physically directing your hands and arms to correct your movements.

For being such a genius, young sheldon certainly did not know how to copy another person's movements.

I take it you've tried learning to play violin from a video, just by copying another person's movements, without feedback or corrections, all while people watch you for their amusement the very first time you try? I'm guessing not.

An example of dis-continuity. In the first episode, having had zero exposure to the piano, Sheldon went into the school's music room and magically knew which key represented which note. I know he's a genius but with no exposure to music, is a genius simply born knowing the notes and the keys? But he didn't know anything about the violin.
@Jennythecatgirl Жыл бұрын
I’ve heard of people having perfect pitch and they didn’t have any great exposure to music. Ironically, I grew up in a very musical environment, and I couldn’t carry a tune in a wheelbarrow! 😂😂
@kindabluejazz Жыл бұрын
There's very little talent required to play the keys of a piano and hear notes that are all perfectly in tune. Just about anyone could sit down to a piano and play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star within 15 minutes using one finger. You could see a picture of a piano keyboard in a book and understand how each key represents notes in ascending pitch. It's not 'magic' - a piano is perfectly 'logical'. On the contrary, there are few people that could create a single, clean, in pitch note on a violin in less than probably an hour. One first needs to learn to tune it. Then how to fret notes, then make them sound clean and at proper pitch. And then there's the whole bowing thing. There's a tremendous amount of understanding of the mechanics needed, plus significant dexterity required to play violin. Playing something simple like Twinkle Twinkle would likely take hours, if not days or even weeks to get it in time and at decent pitch.

Having learnt the violin from a young age, I can accurately say that for most people it takes a good 20 years to be 'ok' at the violin and play reasonably well orchestral calibre or solo pieces, and for most of that time I'm not going to lie: it sounds like Sheldons playing. One of the lessons though I learnt as a result of this is this: Some things will only come to you if you work hard at it for a long time - and when it does and you are finally rewarded with the achievement, you have grown as a person by doing this. If you give up, or go for short easy achievements, somehow I believe you've missed out on how magical life could really be. Stay with it, and maybe in 20 years time you would have a soft smile of achievement on your face when you reminisce about your life.
@IgnorantSeeker Жыл бұрын
Thank you for that! Perhaps just what I need to hear.

Aspiring to become a concert classical violinist is not the only path. Plenty of people, even kids, can play perfectly acceptable and enjoyable violin music within a few years. One doesn't need to go down the classical path, and instead play country/folk (OMG - fiddle!), pop, rock and jazz. There's no need to suffer for decades to learn about achievement and the 'magic' of life. It's people like you that scare people away from pursuing the joy of playing music for **fun**.
