This review convinced me to buy 8 copies of patch work, all the special holiday editions. I'll have to keep them in shrink to maintain their value. But for the original edition, I carefully cut the plastic open on the bottom so I can still play while maintaining the box quality! Edit: Couldn't forget the wife's boyfriend, so I bought him 2 deluxe copies as a thanks for letting me bring his switch on vacation!

I'm relieved to finally find something I can play with The Wife. I hear she's very hard to get to play board games, so it'll be good to be prepared in case I meet her!

Can confirm this is a pretty good game to play with your wife’s bf. Though my wife’s gf seems to enjoy it a tad more.

Patchwork is so good! It's got a spatial puzzle, economic engine (button income), and race elements (to leather patches and quilt patches) all in twenty minutes. Easy to teach but has some tough decisions.

Oh, you know about Go and even mentioned it in the video!!! For me, as strong Go player who studied it for more than 9 years , and a huge fan of the channel and board games overall, this was such a discovery! 15:19 ( btw, I still like luck element in the games, for example, in War of the ring)

A good alternative two-player, perfect information, abstract strategy game would be any of the GIPF project games, with Yinsh being the fan favorite.

Feels very on par with Hey that's my fish! spatial puzzle and level of complexity. I'm also always on the look out for textless board games as we have a young one who can't read explanetory text on cards ect yet, but is smart enough to memorise a simple rule set. So might get this next time I see this. Thanks!

Love the callout for bags. I hate when a publisher makes basic organizing of parts my problem. I just opened Awkward Guests, and it had zero bags. Am I just supposed to sprinkle the tokens on top?

@@trooper6762 your comment is usually used when someone complains about their life, which I wasn't. I gave someone my money for a product. If I were to use it as is, it would kind of be annoying. Like if I got a burger and fries, but they just dumped the fries on the counter. And someone in line says FiRsT wORlD pRoBlEm.

One minor nitpick is that it's almost impossible to completely fill up the grid. For some reason, this really bothers me, but not enough to keep me from playing the hell out of the excellent mobile app.
@shortydancer Жыл бұрын
It’s actually not impossible if you’re not a causal. Lol. Seriously, I came to needing one leather patch to fill everything up. Then I got all caught up in the emotions I didn’t think my move through. I could have gotten it if I just passed since my wife’s bf also could buy the next three in line. Then it would have been mine!!!

I gifted the game 4 times already to non-boardgamers. It's so good that it packs a decent punch for something so extremely accessible. The gamer like complains are kind of silly to me given how light it is. Also imo no need to house rule the tile placement by the way. Sure not the most interesting turns when you have to pass. But it's not random and any problem you have will have your opponent as well. The option to pass and let your opponent deal with the same problem is an interesting choice. Makes the games play out differently as well.

Patchwork is a 0 randomness game (once it's set), but it definitely has some luck. Because you can't foresee the whole game, quite often there will be perfect fits you definitely didn't plan for but you'll pretend you did.

This is totally random but when I heard the way you say "kaveat," I had flashbacks of the question, do you pronounce "aunt" like "ant" or not. (I do. I also pronounce the "a" in caveat the same way as "ant." I also enjoyed the perspective of playing Patchwork to feel all those years of playing Tetris paying off😂

This is not 0% luck cause your oppenent can chose to take the piece that you want for your next turn or may go elsewhere. So as it depends on his choice, his configuration, you just need to pray like 99,9% of games. You still can be very frustrated. But yeah it's definitly close to no luck and is way less luck dependant than my fav 2 player game schotten totten
