Sheng Long is a myth no more. He is an extra boss in SF6 World Tour. Best thing about him is his AI is "flowchart" Ryu with crazy amount of damage. Easy to beat if you understand the flowchart, but one mistake and you'll eat a ton of damage. You must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance.

I still have my original copy from the newsstand. It's one of my precious artifacts of youth. It's in great condition, too. Gaming magazines were so good back then. That and the TMNT: Turtles in Time gatefold cover are a few of my personal memorabilia. Nice to see who Sushi-X actually is. He was responsible for so much of our culture. He did GameFan after EGM, right? That was premium, too.

As a kid, the thing for me that made it obvious that the whole thing couldn't be what everyone was claiming was just Ryu's victory text itself: "You must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance." If Sheng Long was a real person, and if Ryu was actually referring to him, then Sheng Long would necessarily be weaker than Ryu, not stronger. Ryu says that if his opponent can defeat Sheng Long then they could stand a chance against him. That necessarily implies that beating Sheng Long doesn't prove you could beat Ryu, which means Ryu must be better than Sheng Long. Had Ryu's statement meant to hint at a more powerful character than himself, it would instead have been something like "If you can't even beat me, you have no chance against Sheng Long!" However, what he actually said is the exact opposite of that.

Sheng Long started out as a joke and he ended up creating two of the most pivotal characters for Ryu's develop. The concept of Akuma taking the stage as opposed to Bison came from Sheng Long, having to unlock Akuma before Gouken came from Sheng Long.

I remember going to galaxy lanes to play late Friday night. Some kid was there saying he got a perfect in everyone and he fought sheng long and oh man we started pumping quarters in. Galaxy had the game on highest difficulty so wasn’t too easy and when we finally did it nothing happened lol and that’s how we found out it was BS lmao. Sheng Long became canon when he was finally introduced as Gouki's and Gouken's master in Akuma's ending in the Street Fighter Alpha series. Complete with a portrait picture. He was a thinner younger master to Gouken and Gouki than Gouken was to Ken and Ryu. To me, Sheng Long in his SFA pic looked a bit like a pirate with a pony tail and missing teeth.

Dude, I literally got perfects on every single CPU up to Bison and NOTHING HAPPENED in front of 2 gamers / eye witnesses. I did this on the actual arcade machine I thought something would happen when I got to Bison because the part where it said I have to defeat Bison 10 times made no freakin sense to me. I can't even remember what happened if I kept getting the perfect streak on Bison or not. All I could think about was it didn't freakin work. I walked home from that story disappointed and sad... 🤣Fukk you Sushi_X. When I found out about Akuma being a secret boss with my skills I could easily get to him no problem and so I did only to get my azz kicked haha. I did eventually beat him at least. I couldn't believe they did it again on SF3 that design of Sheng Long was so believable but by then I was playing too many RPG's my skills lacked and right now I'm trying to regain it and finding out how much I suck now... 😂

I always figured that lore-wise, Sheng Long is a legendary figure who was based off of either Gouken or an earlier Ansatsuken practicioner's deeds and had his entire everything embellished to high heaven. Gouken is just an incredibly skilled and capable warrior.

Street Fighter 4 was by far the best one. I absolutely loved Goukens fighting style and got so inspired and competitive playing his character that I once ended up in a match with the top ranked PlayStation player at the time named MurderNinja. I wasn’t even that high ranked but I ended up defeating him and I was so happy to the point where I decided to make Gouken my profile pic on all platforms. I really hope they bring him back in SF6 🥰
