Looked like such a lovely day there. I enjoyed seeing all the beautiful wild flowers - especially the trillium which I don't think I've seen before. They have really big leaves. Going through the tunnel was great too - the workmanship that went into it is to be admired. Thanks for sharing :)

Haven't been there in years. Wildflowers change there by the week in spring. The path is perfect for older folks who can't walk far. Glad you did a video on it. Directly on the other side of the RR tracks is the Susquehanna River. Looking forward to seeing your next outdoor excursion!

There is now an upgraded parking lot that will accommodate maybe 30 vehicles but you will have to walk farther to actually get to the trail. There are also several 'Jiffy John's " too.

Many years ago, worked 2 summers with town highway department found only 1 spot with trilliums at the head of an old dirt road where some soil was dug out. Illegal to pick or dig up in NY.

Great vid. I'm not far from that beautiful place. There is another place close to there but on the York County side. It is located off of rt. 372 on the west side of the Norman Wood bridge. It is an orginal section of the old canal system. Also a good place to see eagles, osprays and herins. Check it out one day. Also in York Co. Is the Indian Steps Museum. A lovely arts and crafts building by the Suswuehanna. They have anual pow wow in september. Thanks Much! DaveyJO

Alot of the wild flowers are some I used to see in my Dad's woods . It's been over 45 years, you didn't see any red triliums (spelling?)? I enjoyed the tour.

No red ones, but I hope to find some one day.

Shanks Ferry is also the site of an old dynamite factory explosion. If you cross the creek and walk over a hill about halfway up the trail you will find a few old building foundations and a small sign at the site of the accident.
@thewanderingwoodsman72275 жыл бұрын
would you be able to give me gps coordinates, I would definitely like to go find this spot.
@danculton90435 жыл бұрын
I do not have the GPS coordinates but its fairly easy to get to. Follow the Shenk's Ferry Wildflower Preserve path to the PPL line cut. Just past that cut, turn right on a path that goes down the hill to Grubb Run (creek). Cross the run (creek) and wind around to the large hill into Bausman's Hollow. Keep going on the narrow but fairly distinct path until you come to a sign that reads "Site of the Dynamite Factory Explosion.'' The iron sign and the pipe it's mounted on are painted black. There is a few stone foundations but nothing breathtaking. I attached a pretty decent link that had lots of info on shanks ferry along with that cemetery you were looking for. www.google.com/amp/s/unchartedlancaster.com/2019/01/12/decimated-dynamite-factory-ancient-cemetery-hidden-treasure-explore-the-forgotten-mysteries-of-bausmans-hollow/amp/

Thanks, I will probably be going down there soon. I always go down this time of year for the flowers, but now I have some more things to look for - thanks again.
