Whoever gets the opportunity to have Tonka in their life will experience true love on a new level. I am in my 40's, before I was born until I was 8yrs old we had a white German Shepherd. She is a legend in our family. The one who will meet us on the other side and forever lives in our hearts. Yes Shepherds are smart and loyal but the emotional connection w/a white GSD is deeper. Before my Mom knew she was pregnant this dog freaked out when she was swimming, kept swimming under my Mom pushing her stomach out of the water. She paced and whimpered when my Dad was in an accident at the exact time 50mi's from home. When I was little if I didn't look both ways before crossing the street she would block me or grab my pant legs so I couldn't cross even if there wasn't a car in site. You only had to talk to her like a person, full sentences, and she knew what what to do. She was ours and we were her's.
@carolb292 ай бұрын
Mine was a legend too. as a baby Mom could put me on a blanket in the yard while she put laundry on the line. The dog would lay next to me and not let me crawl off the blanket. And he saved someones life, we lived on a lake and one winter night he started barking and wouldn't stop. My Dad let him go and he ran to the lake. A man had fallen through the ice, ice fishing. Dad got him out and every Christmas that man would bring a huge box of dog bones for the dog. Can't remember the name of the show but they wanted Dad to bring the dog on the show, it was in NY and Dad didn't want to stress the dog out with a trip like that. Only time I saw my Dad cry is when he had to put the dog down. His name was Colonel.

I grew up with a golden German Shepherd. He saved us many times from robbers and creeps. He was the best, most intelligent, most loyal dog I've ever had or seen. I still miss him so much.
@denisia11112 ай бұрын
@@carolb29 Holy guacamole I completely forgot my Mom used to leave me on a blanket too, safely under Drusilla's(Druie) watch. I have no doubt your family knew Colonel was a hero long before he saved that man. I think it's commendable your father didn't want to stress the dog just for tv. We've had other German Shepherds over the years but never another white one, risk of heartbreak is too much. Still everyone I've ever met who's been lucky enough to share their life with one has said the same thing, they're unbelievable, story after story of these dogs being so in tune with your every thought, and that's just the half of it. You'll love other dogs but the love those Shepherds have for you is pure magic.
@denisia11112 ай бұрын
@@isoldam Shortly after my parents split someone broke into our house, probably thought it would be easy with just my Mom and I. Thankfully we were out but came home to the dog covered in blood. The cops n my Mom thought it was because Druie had literally gone through a bathroom door where the robber tried to hide. How he got out a tiny bathroom window he'll only know. The dog didn't have a cut and later that night cops dropped by with a cheeseburger for Druie and to let my Mom know a guy was arrested at the hospital when he finally fessed-up why he had massive dog bites all over! Best dogs ever!

I am proud to be a monthly donor for some years because Hope for Paws is work of compassion, of ceaseless work to end suffering and the abuses of humans. Whatever humans do, I went through the Christian Bible, the Torah and related Jewish scriptures, even the Qur'an. Every single one has admonitions to care for the creatures entrusted to us, including to provide rest to working creatures. I am retired and on a fixed income, there is no problem with providing each month what amounts to two or three items in my weekly grocery trolley. Small donations are like drops that form a stream that form a river of life.

So lovely to see these animals' faces light up with joy and love, once they know they're safe with good humans. Everyone should remember: domestic dogs and cats have only one "natural habitat," and that is in our homes and our hearts. It is NEVER ok to just let a dog or cat loose to fend for themselves. If you have a pet you can't care for, call a rescue organization.
