I made it a point to learn how to cook and hone my cookery skills at an early age. I did not want to end up a middle-ager with diabetes type 2 and over weight. This once bachelor never depended on Mc slops or Burger King to feed me. Does a man well to learn to cook, also if he marries a woman that can't till she learns from her husband. I am The official biscuit and bread baker and gravy maker of the household. I leave the pasta dishes and some of the casseroles upto my wife. Hey Beagle here is a 🍩 for ya ol' boy. Get daddy to make some of the old fashion bear sign (donuts) like the cookies did in the old cattle drives.

The main reason I love KZbin is because it allows everyday people to essentially have their own cooking show. Much better and more informative than what's on the airwaves. This channel is great.

I had a conversation with a buddy of mine just a few days ago. We were talking about cooking shows and I had told him that I would rather get out an old recipe book and make it than to watch how fancy people can make a grilled cheese look. It doesn't matter to me if my plate looks pretty as long as the food is good. And that's the part that this fellow brings. Simple ways to cook great food

Hello Kent, Shannon, and all the taste testers! My wife and I, and our 8 children have enjoyed your videos for quite some time and your recipes have certainly brought many a smile and full belly to our humble home. The one simple ingredient I would add to this dish which would bring just a touch of heat and a whole lot of good smokey flavor, would be a teaspoon or so of ground chipotle peppers. This dish is outstanding as is, but if I were to add anything at all that would be it. Thank you all for everything that you do, and may God bless you!

I've made virtually the same potatoes for years. In the oven, I put them in heavy duty foil sealed up tight spread out so it lays flat on a baking sheet. 350F for about an hour. Also, I add a good amount of Kerrygold butter and use 1# of cooked Jimmy Dean Sage sausage instead of the bacon for something different.
@CowboyKentRollins2 жыл бұрын
Sounds great
@WarpFactor9992 жыл бұрын
@@CowboyKentRollins It really is Kent! Also, use larger slices of onion to add more texture and contrast. Baking in foil means cleanup is just throwing away the foil. Use less liquid as it stays in the foil packet. Outdoors you can put the foil directly on the coals or over the grill. Adjust cooking time accordingly. Interesting variation: Use Herbs de Provance instead of your cowboy seasoning and just use potatoes, onions, and Kerrygold butter (lots of butter). Sliced parsnips (planks) can be used instead of potatoes (or in addition to) for something different as well.

Fun fact garlic, it is actually more closely related to a leek. In the same way that leeks are milder than onions, elephant garlic is milder, and with a slightly different flavor, than regular garlic - slightly garlicy, but without the sharp, pungent bite.

Here is what I would add: 1. Make it breakfast! Add some eggs to scramble with the potatoes! 2. Make it a "garden mess" by adding string green beans. (I know, 2 suggestions. But I've made a version of these potatoes for years, and I've added these ingredients. Not together, but separately. The garden mess started when a friend brought over a bunch of veggies from his garden. So my dad throw them all together on the grill with a ton of butter and bacon. And in the morning, my dad added eggs to the mess to make it breakfast!)

I've always loved pork loin stuffed with Jalapeno's and Peach preserves or Mango. So, I'm thinking that one of the two would add to the spice of the jalapeno as well as enhance the bacon flavor. Not too much of either and I would recommend adding it towards the end, if not at the end of the cooking process so that it does not dissolve.

This looks amazing and is definitely going on my list to try. I’d add some bell peppers or corn to mine also, maybe both. I do have one dumb question. I’m pretty new with cast iron cooking and I’ve always heard you don’t want to cook acidic things in cast iron, does the Mountain Dew not damage or weaken the seasoning? Or is that just not a concern once you have cast iron well seasoned enough?

You can cook acidic things in it, you just don't want to let anything sit in it for too long. I let mine cool down to the touch, empty it, rinse it out real good and then grease it back up. If the bottom has burnt remains some people put water in it and turn the burner back on, makes it easier to clean but definitely put a coat of grease back on it.

I think he has 2 videos on proper cleaning and seasoning of iron.

@@heidimarchant5438 You are absolutely correct, plus, if you leave food of any kind in it overnight (like saying "I'll clean up later") your food inside the cast iron will turn black.

Hey Kent! I love these taters! I think I would add some other varieties of peppers like bell peppers or sweet peppers to give it another layer with the jalapeños. Love your videos!

I made this but cut recipe in half. Still made enough for two meals for two. I put it in one of my loaf pans and covered with foil. Cooked it on the grill. It was delicious.

Lets give this a try. I would add mushrooms to the cook, chives to the topping of cheese. For a changeup I might experiment with some sour cream under the chives.

Looks delicious, i'd say add 1 red bell pepper. Topped with green onions on top the cheese at the end❣️😋😋
