As a single dad with 2 teen boys I struggled for years to cook stuff they would eat and admittedly we ate out a lot.. about a year ago I was told about you and these videos,. And I gotta say thank you sir, because of your awesome videos I'm finally able to cook good meals almost like my grandma use too... And my boys will actually eat my food now

I made it a point to learn how to cook and hone my cookery skills at an early age. I did not want to end up a middle-ager with diabetes type 2 and over weight. This once bachelor never depended on Mc slops or Burger King to feed me. Does a man well to learn to cook, also if he marries a woman that can't till she learns from her husband. I am The official biscuit and bread baker and gravy maker of the household. I leave the pasta dishes and some of the casseroles upto my wife. Hey Beagle here is a 🍩 for ya ol' boy. Get daddy to make some of the old fashion bear sign (donuts) like the cookies did in the old cattle drives.

The main reason I love KZbin is because it allows everyday people to essentially have their own cooking show. Much better and more informative than what's on the airwaves. This channel is great.

I had a conversation with a buddy of mine just a few days ago. We were talking about cooking shows and I had told him that I would rather get out an old recipe book and make it than to watch how fancy people can make a grilled cheese look. It doesn't matter to me if my plate looks pretty as long as the food is good. And that's the part that this fellow brings. Simple ways to cook great food

I think the only thing that might improve this perfect recipe would be if I were invited for dinner the next time you cook it! Barring that idea, laying some short ribs on the bottom in that Mountain Dew and slow-cooking the whole thing might just be divine! Oh, the possibilities! Going now to dig out my daddy's cast iron! God bless you and yours and all your puppies, too!

This looks so good!! My dad taught me to make a somewhat similar recipe. His was russet potatoes, onions and garlic. Add salt and pepper, half stick of butter and…coca cola. We cook them in a Dutch oven, or covered pie pan on the grill. It was a hit at any cookout! I think of him whenever I make them and believe he would’ve not only loved this dish, but also your channel! God Bless

Love your show! Elephant garlic is named from its super size, usually they're around 2 inches in diameter or larger. The flavor is more intense garlic and sweeter then normal garlic. I use it because my chili recipe only calls for 3 cloves of garlic.

Hello Kent, Shannon, and all the taste testers! My wife and I, and our 8 children have enjoyed your videos for quite some time and your recipes have certainly brought many a smile and full belly to our humble home. The one simple ingredient I would add to this dish which would bring just a touch of heat and a whole lot of good smokey flavor, would be a teaspoon or so of ground chipotle peppers. This dish is outstanding as is, but if I were to add anything at all that would be it. Thank you all for everything that you do, and may God bless you!

It might sound pretty far out of left field but i would try pineapple. The acid in that should complement the sweet and slightly citrus flavor from the mtn dew pretty well. I'm so glad to see you restoring your wagon. Too many people don't do such to their equipment today. Everything is "disposable". Well, my hubs & I are old school, but we don't do that. When our old faithful work pick-up truck was hit in the rear-end when I was sitting @ a light the insurance company wanted to total it because a simple new bed replaces was worth more than the book value of the truck, what did we say??? NOPE! We bought her back on a salvage title fir $200 & built her a beautiful wood bed for less half the cost of a new bed!

My wife is a 32 year cancer survivor, very blessed, except that the total body radiation left her mouth sensitive to some things, jalapeño’s being one of those. So for my household I’d replace them with plablano’s. Good flavor and not as much heat. Also, I like Mountain Dew Kickstart Citrus flavor and I’d use it instead of the regular Mountain Dew. Can’t wait to make this version. Thank you for all the wonderful ideas and your faith in God and our wonderful country is faith affirming and again supporting of our beliefs as well. I've made virtually the same potatoes for years. In the oven, I put them in heavy duty foil sealed up tight spread out so it lays flat on a baking sheet. 350F for about an hour. Also, I add a good amount of Kerrygold butter and use 1# of cooked Jimmy Dean Sage sausage instead of the bacon for something different.

@@CowboyKentRollins It really is Kent! Also, use larger slices of onion to add more texture and contrast. Baking in foil means cleanup is just throwing away the foil. Use less liquid as it stays in the foil packet. Outdoors you can put the foil directly on the coals or over the grill. Adjust cooking time accordingly. Interesting variation: Use Herbs de Provance instead of your cowboy seasoning and just use potatoes, onions, and Kerrygold butter (lots of butter). Sliced parsnips (planks) can be used instead of potatoes (or in addition to) for something different as well.

Fun fact garlic, it is actually more closely related to a leek. In the same way that leeks are milder than onions, elephant garlic is milder, and with a slightly different flavor, than regular garlic - slightly garlicy, but without the sharp, pungent bite.

Here is what I would add: 1. Make it breakfast! Add some eggs to scramble with the potatoes! 2. Make it a "garden mess" by adding string green beans. (I know, 2 suggestions. But I've made a version of these potatoes for years, and I've added these ingredients. Not together, but separately. The garden mess started when a friend brought over a bunch of veggies from his garden. So my dad throw them all together on the grill with a ton of butter and bacon. And in the morning, my dad added eggs to the mess to make it breakfast!)

I've always loved pork loin stuffed with Jalapeno's and Peach preserves or Mango. So, I'm thinking that one of the two would add to the spice of the jalapeno as well as enhance the bacon flavor. Not too much of either and I would recommend adding it towards the end, if not at the end of the cooking process so that it does not dissolve.

Cowboy Kent…We have experimented and added some fire roasted tomatoes. Also add some cheddar jack cheese to the top and get it nice and crispy before serving. As always we love your recipes and always look forward to the next!

Dear Shannon and Kent. First off, I must tell you my beautiful daughter ❤ purchased an autographed copy of "A Taste of Cowboy Ranch Recipes and Tales From The Trail. I can't tell you both how happy it made me. As for additional ingredient(s) I would say carrots 🥕 and mushrooms 🍄 😀 I think they add to the dish without taking away from the light citrus flavor.

I like to use realemon lemon juice in my spuds. Great flavor, a little zing and some citrus flavor. Use a couple of man sized dashes in a 10” oven. 👍🏻

That looks so delicious! I really like the original recipe, so I'm sure I'll love the new one.👍🏻 I think I'll add some fresh green beans to mine. Since we're not overcooking the potatoes, the beans will be nice and al dente. I like to add some veggies to dishes to help my family eat their greens. 😋

I’m sure it’s too late for the gift certificates , but I’m going to add my comments for the common good. I have a family member who isn’t a fan of sweet onions in the dishes I cook (how anyone doesn’t like the greatest sweet onion on God’s green earth - the Vadalia, is beyond me). I would substitute with sliced green onions or chives. And a little sour cream on the side might be a hit. Thank you both for tipping your hats for the service men and women and supporting our troops

I'm thinking that new spicy mountain dew might be good in this!. As for what I'd add, probably cabbage. Love potatoes and cabbage together and this is really close to how I'd cook them, but never really thought about adding soda!

This looks amazing and is definitely going on my list to try. I’d add some bell peppers or corn to mine also, maybe both. I do have one dumb question. I’m pretty new with cast iron cooking and I’ve always heard you don’t want to cook acidic things in cast iron, does the Mountain Dew not damage or weaken the seasoning? Or is that just not a concern once you have cast iron well seasoned enough?
@heidimarchant5438
@heidimarchant5438 2 жыл бұрын
You can cook acidic things in it, you just don't want to let anything sit in it for too long. I let mine cool down to the touch, empty it, rinse it out real good and then grease it back up. If the bottom has burnt remains some people put water in it and turn the burner back on, makes it easier to clean but definitely put a coat of grease back on it.

@@heidimarchant5438 You are absolutely correct, plus, if you leave food of any kind in it overnight (like saying "I'll clean up later") your food inside the cast iron will turn black.
