I completely agree about Microneedling. During the years I have tried almost everything to resolve my acne scars and look younger, anything from face exercises (That's for sagging), vitamin C serum, Fraxel, collagen supplements and of course Retin A (7 years straight). However, nothing made any real difference compared to the high-quality derma pen I purchased for under 100 bucks. Within 3 months of use, my skin has improved DRAMATICALLY. Acne scars from childhood gone by 90% which was the main reason I started doing it however, that's not the only benefit, My fine lines have disappeared completely, and my nasolabial folds are way less prominent. I don't look like I'm in my 20s again, but definitely not 56 either. People often underestimate the power of wounding and the revolutionary effects it can have on the skin.

+1 for kora beauticaIs. I've been doing microneedling since it started 12 or so years ago. Nobody believe I am 55. They all say I am in my 30's or early 40's. Ditto on the subject of texture 🎉 I have little, if any, estrogen in my body. I’m noticing that the texture of my forehead seems to be getting a little “rough” … not scars, not acne (but some of them look like they could be popped(kinda a sorta) and am wondering if this could be caused by lack of estrogen. It’s really starting to bug me because I’ve always been blessed with good skin.❤😮❤

I honestly recommend just going on accutane. I had acne from 10 -29. Accutane was the only thing that worked. I experienced clear skin for basically the first time in my life. I really wish I’d gone on it sooner and not been so afraid of it. I didn’t realize how much of the marking on my skin was permanent until I stopped getting pimples.

I used Accutane when I turned 30 (I’m now 60) and it definitely did clear up the acne for good. My skin, nose, eyes became very dry, red and uncomfortable and there was some nasty purging that left a few mild indented scars but no real texture. These side effects could have been much less had I been given instructions on how to care for my skin while on the medication. Looking back, if I had been given the option, I would have used prescription tretinoin first. I’ve had some professional micro needling which has made some improvement.

best way: moisturise and sunscreen. my holy grail is a lightweight moisturiser ( i use invity microemulsion ) and then i use spf 50 sunscreen! try not to use any harsh acids if it is active. stay away from tret, or retinol or retinoid. focus on healing acne first and then the scarring. it is hard to do both at the same time.

Stay away from bad oil specially hydrogenated oil like vegetable oil; dary products and process food. (Read your food labels of ingredients) Stay hydrate, exercise and eat clean. Check your liver. Clean your colon. Clog colon leads to build up of toxins coming out to the surface. (Look it up) All the products will only help from the outside but the main cause is within. I pray for everyone get theough this stressful battle. Keep fighting and never give up!

What really worked for me was applying a dab of the Skinlyte natural kojic acid soap right after I pop my pimples. When it dries up and heals, there is hardly a mark left. Usually, at my age, those dark spots and scars remain for months. I have allergies and I sometimes get the hives that cause me to scratch constantly until the medicine kicks in. So I rub some of the soap on the places I scratch to prevent hyperpigmentation. I am very impressed by how well it works. I got it from Amazon. Don't get the other brands because they contain synthetic chemicals such as dyes and fragrance. Those will aggravate your condition and may cause irritation that will lead to more inflammation and hyperpigmentation.

I am not an acne girl and never been one when I was a teen BUT I did experience few pimples throughout my 20s (few breakouts) and 1-3 of them turned into a red spot. So I believe you don't need to have had a face full of acne for years to develop few acne marks, just one pimple can become a mark. Also, I am the type who seriously enjoys to pop them so don't do that since it"s majorly because of that it can leave a nice mark 😉

I have tried homeopathic medicine 3-4 times over the years to treat the acne, to decrease dandruff which leads to acne, etc, but nothing worked for the scars left behind. On recommendation from a dear friend, I have been using a salicylic acid+glycolic acid face wash on my back since December '23 and by today (June '24) my marks have reduced a lot! It is atleast 40% gone. I wet my back and rub the salicylic acid+glycolic acid face wash over my marks and keep it for about 5mins before washing it off. I am planning to stick with it because I AM seeing results and i believe patience is key and we'll get there to clean, blemish-free skin 🧿🙏

The best way is to prevent it in the first place - but unfortunately until the internet we didn’t have access to information and had to depend on dermatologists who said things like,”well you won’t get cystic acne when your 80” or “your diet doesn’t matter for your skin”. 😡🤦♀️ I guess I was lucky that I didn’t get pitting but I am 49 and I still have purple spots on my chin from my late twenties. I have been treating it actively for a year now - no results. I finally stopped getting hormonal cystic acne when I found info from gynecologists on the internet that suggest DIM for detoxing bad estrogens. Totally stopped getting cystic acne when I took it daily for about 5 years, now I take it occasionally.

I think I would need to do one more of this treatment and my scars will be all gone. So if you think what to do, I would suggest this. Microneedling, peelings (that I did few times) it self did not help me with scars, and I don't think I would have this results without subcision combined with tca and dermapen. Hope that I helped someone to, at least, make research about this treatment. Good luck everyone✨️

I've been following your advice for a while and my skin has improved but these damn closed comedones are not budging. I'm using salicylic acid face wash 1x day, AHA x3 a week, BHA x3 a week (I worked up to this), micellar water in the mornings to get the overnight gunk off, and oil-free moisturizer. The closed comedones are around my mouth area so I can't use retinol and I'm going crazy I've been dealing with these for probably 10 years. The rest of the closed comedones on my face disappeared, but the ones around my jaw won't go. I've had my hormones checked by the doctor, and the doctor said my hormones would not be the reason for my acne. I have this all month long and sometimes they combine with each other and form pustules UGH I'm losing hope :( If I count them there are probably 20-30 little comedones all around my mouth, chin, jaw lower half of my face. I want to resolve my acne scars but this needs to get under freaking control first.

Hi Dr.Idriss. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. Could you please make a video how to address comedons (open and closed) when you have a hypersensitivity skin. My skin clogging worsens when I use salicylic acid, my skin isn’t oily and acids dry it out even more.

"Exfoliate skin with glycolic acid 3 times a week." Can I know which one Dr. Idriss does or which one gets better efficacy for hyperpigmentation? To exfoliate every other night for 3 times a weeks or continuous 3 nights? I use retinol the other nights. THANK YOU!🙏

I would like to see a video about damaged skin barrier. I've ruined my skin about 10 months ago (more is more principle, especially with the ordinary products) and still have big trouble with my face 😞

Thank you for all this information on acne scars….could you give us information on keloids? I have a few acne scars that formed keloids and I’d like to know what could help for this…by the way I just started to use your products the minute they were available in Canada and I really like the results as of now! Thank you again for all your videos … you’re a great teacher ….I’ve learned so much since I discovered your blog! 🦋🌸❤️🦋🐈⬛

I started developing acne when I was 11 years old, and I am now 21. From ages 17-20 I used prescribed tretinoin and benzoyl peroxide with clindamycin. I developed a reaction to the benzoyl peroxide prescription, so I stopped using it, but I now have blackheads and cystic acne again. My pores are very large, and I would assume I have oily skin because of the blackheads, but my skin is really dry even with moisturizing. I have tried La Roche Posay effaclar duo and it is not irritating like my prescription when buffered with moisturizer, but it has not been effective on my pimples or blackheads. I have also used Paulas Choice Salicylic Acid exfoliator a few times a week (not with the effaclar duo) and I haven't seen any difference with it. I would love to see a video about skin with acne and blackheads but is dry as well. I feel that my skin is aging much faster than it should be because of the dryness, but I'm stuck between trying to moisturize my skin and treating my acne and blackheads.

Hi May you please make a video about what actives should not be used or layered together Vit C, retinoids, azaleic acid, niacinamide, peptides, aha, bha, benzoyl peroxide, snail mucin….

She has one! Search for “Dr. Idriss combining actives”. It was soooo helpful to me! There’s another one “layering skincare” that may also be helpful.

Thank you ❤ but I need more suggestions for in office treatment for hypopigmentation. I've visited plenty of derms I am an esthetician myself. I have small hypopigmentations all over my skin. Lots of scaring from acne but mostly because Ive been picking all my life. Like obsessively. 😢 I have finally managed to stop myself. 36 years old now)🎉 everyone I have visited have told me it impossible to treat. I have melasma as well.

I am 56 and have had menopausal hormonal cystic acne and now I am dealing with post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. I use niacinamide 4%, azelaic acid 20%, sunscreen SpF 50, Glycolic 10% and Lactic acid, licorice root extract, vitamin C, prescription and tretinoin....but it has been taking a bit of time, more than 6 months being an older woman . So it is not an overnight result. I would like to use your products but they are not available in Australia😔

i have so many acne scars, icepick in particular (im talking hundreds). the actual skincare products dont do much for me because it's so superficial... the only thing that has worked for me is the banisher kit because i can mechanically break that scar apart when it is healing. so every time i get an icepick scar, i target that area and the pigment fades very quickly. the texture of the skin is much harder and i still have uneven-ness from my hundreds of acne scars, but the banisher tool was the only thing that actually broke up the skin. ive also gotten PRP professional microneedling and that seemed to help but there was too much downtime from that. Ive tried lasers, it made my skin worse. I tried fillers once but it moved around my skin so it made the scars look worse. I am open to trying the salmon DNA microneedling or morephus 8 but ive heard that it's super painful. I wish others would recommend more invasive acne scar treatments because just applying a toner or serum wont do anything for my acne scars

can not doing subcision before laser treatment make your face look burned/worse??? ive done like 6-10 laser treatments and my scars look worse! please help. i think bc they didnt do subcision and i have zero collagen so they should have injected filler/collagen w/ the laser after subcision
