I can't believe I spent my night binge watching your videos. You are breaking down skincare for consumers like no other dermatologist /esthetician/influencer on KZbin. You make skincare so simple and have helped me to block out all the marketing gimmicks. I've tried reading Dermatology studies but experience information overload and just feel like taking care of my troubled skin is so much more daunting and confusing. So thank you for your transparency and simplicity! Oh and you are GORGEOUS! sending love from Trinidad 🇹🇹

You are right. Purge is a myth. First time I tried to start with tretinoin, my skin really freaked out and I stopped for a year. Terrible purge, peeling...I used it too much.( 3 times a week but no moisturizer underneath) I started again recently. Very very carefully. Now I always put moisturizer first and then pea sized amount of tret 2 times a week( started with 1 time a week for 2 months) I'm so happy! No purge, skin is tolerating well. Those tips are VERY useful for beginners. Thank you! 💖

So why are there still a lot of videos like this talking about what retinol products? Even you use only the real retin-a which you need a prescription for. So why promoting useless retinol products? There are Adapalene products thats also formulated with Benzoyl Peroxide but im one of those people who has bad reactions from BP so i was prescribed Tretinoin and a separate BP for spot treatment only. I was also prescribed antibacterial antibiotics that helped with pesky nodular acnes. It took about 3 months of use before the purging subsided for me and recently ive been recommended to use Glycolic Acid for exfoliation from the marks i had from purging, but even without the GA (because I ran out due to local lockdowns) the tretinoin alone worked great in minimizing dark marks for me. If you are careful and start out at lower doses and start 2-3 times a week like she said, it should greatly decrease the chances of irritation which people call “purge.” Just my thoughts based off her comments and my (admittedly layman’s) knowledge of retinol.

🎉Summary: Retinol Ester -> Retinol -> Retinaldehyde (Retinal) -> Retinoic acid (tretinoin= prescription retin A) 👆Lowest to highest strength. Start with lowest always. Less is more. Use a pea size amount. Consistency over intensity. Use at night. Most retinols are photolabile (unstable in the presence of light) Use 2-3 times a week as a beginner for several weeks. Until the skin can tolerate then use regularly If skin is sensitive, -Don’t wash face before retinol or make sure skin is very dry. -Don’t use exfoliate same night as retinol -Use moisturiser before retinol to buffer the skin -Cicaplast B5 baume to soothe skin

I have been using 0.1 retinol for two months, i actually apply all over including the eye area. But i saw some derm online instructing not to run the retinol but to spread a thin layer. I became super sensitive to my sunscreen that i have been using for more than two years, it will irritate me every single time. Stopping to use a dallop and go with pea size. THESE ARE INFO THAT HELPS and she's giving these out for free😢

My dermatologist who I've known for 40 years has always promoted Retin A. He has said everything you have said EXCEPT use only the Retin A at night and do not use any other products with it, including a moisturizer. I have always used Retin A (Micro cream 0,05 in my case) this way. Your opinion on not combining with other products especially moisturizer? Additionally, the two moisturizers you like are in containers that you must dip your fingers in. Easily to contaminate. Kind regards.
