Biore is actually a Japanese brand. As for the blue dye in sunscreen. Some Asian sunscreen has it for color correcting or 'brightening' features (usually in Asia that means making you look fairer). In fact Biore UV has one specifically with that. Tried that, nice texture and all but the brightening part is not my jam.

Thank you for yet another extremely educational video! While I realize the majority of your followers are of the younger generations, please don't forget about us oldies who are (finally) able to benefit from all this wonderful information (so us in the 60+ sphere). We are dealing with decades of skin neglect through ignorance, so hoping you might dedicate one upcoming video to products that may help reverse (wishful thinking) problems like glycation, etc. Personally, I would love to see you discuss the pros/cons of the Matrixyl product lines: 3000, Synth-6 targeting horizontal/forehead wrinkles, and the newest one Morphomics targeting more vertical wrinkles like nasolabial. Olay also has a dedicated moisturizer that is a combination Niacinamide + Peptides (It seems to absorb well and give a slight 'tightening' feel, although I have not be able to find the percentage of Niacinamide in it ... Olay's claim is 99% which doesn't make sense to me).

I’m with you! Going to be 60 this year and still don’t wear sunscreen. Our generation, as you said, just didn’t know. Just like the smokers of the 50s didn’t know it was bad for their health. I may try one of these and hope to hell I get in the habit of using it. 😅

@@Sufferingsassafrass I'm hitting 70 in the fall, and I've tried doing the sunscreen thing a few times and under makeup they were all disasters. Unfortunately, I'm still a smoker although have been able to cut back but not totally kick the habit ... while most likely doing major damage to the body, has kept me out of the homicide detectives grasp. Back in our teenage and 20-something years, no one saw a dermatologist ... not even sure they existed. Then as the years went by (working, running a household, dealing with kids, etc.) who really had the time/energy to even think about what was drooping, sagging, losing volume ... above and below the neck. My goal now is to try to undo a little of that damage and make the undertakers job of making me look presentable in the casket a little easier.

@@cherylmyers5095 I've been using two very good tinted sunscreens, alternating between Australian Gold SPF 50 and Bliss Block Star SPF 30. Both are available for around $20 at Ulta (Australian Gold) or Target and WalMart (Bliss Block Star). I use them as a one-step sunscreen, primer and creamy base/foundation on my fair-skinned 63 year old face. They both work well over lightweight moisturizers and under loose or pressed mineral powder foundation, if I want a little heavier coverage. Most of the time I just set them with a light dusting of translucent pressed powder, well-buffed with a good quality brush. I have rosacea, and trying to color match its moodiness with traditional liquid or cream foundations became impossible about twenty years ago. These sunscreen products both have a nice, semi-satin finish, and contain mineral-only active sunscreen ingredients, so they don't cause any extra irritation around my eyes. At times when my skin is particularly sensitive, like during dry, windy weather ("Santa Ana" winds here in Southern California), I use the Australian Gold as both of these sunscreens do have some fragrance and the Block Star's scent is very citrusy and can be irritating to my face. They both remove well with the two-step "double cleanse" method that seems to be the norm these days; the Australian Gold is very water resistant and sometimes needs a little micellar water as a final step for complete removal. I should note that I also live in an area with very hard water; sometimes my cleansing routine ends with a final wipedown rinse with distilled water on a cotton pad. I have found great improvement in the texture of my skin since starting to wear sunscreens on my face every single day, a habit I started only about 10 years ago. Now if I could just find some magic potion for the sagging jowls, droopy hooded eyelids, deep vertical lines around my lips...I have a high-mileage face, but the sunscreen helps by not allowing new age spots to crash the party. And of course, you know you have to quit smoking, I did thirty years ago and have no regrets. Good luck!

I have tons of sunscreen and toners in my cart, spending a bunch of stuff for me and my kids’ skin. I love that they have exp dates on their product. My last purchase has a pretty long shelf like, into 2024 I think. I tried Skin1004 Madagascar Centella and I thought it’d be too greasy but no, love it as well. Despite being a pale, easily burned white chick who knows better, for years I struggled to wear sunscreen daily because I hated how it felt and smelled. A couple of years ago I started following Dr. Dray and she convinced me to try Asian sunscreens. Such a huge difference! I now wear sunscreen almost daily. It has made a noticeable difference in my roseacea too. I'm currently using that Missha Sun milk. I like it well enough, but the Purito has been my favorite.

Biore is J-Beauty btw and they make a lot of great skincare products including sunscreen. I've tried this one before and it has a nice gel cream texture that absorbs quickly, so ideal for those with oily skin. But I believe it has fragrance and a bunch of citrus extracts that could be irritating though, so sensitive skin proceed with caution. Hope this helps 😊

I’ve seen a few skincare influencers mention that whatever sunscreen they’re reviewing covers up the entire uva spectrum up to 400nms, but I thought that no sunscreen protects higher than 370nms, which is why the la roche uvmune was such a big deal, it contains the first filter to protect against that missing 30nms and so is the only one that protects up to 400nms

Most UVA filters offer at least some protection in the 400nm range, Avobenzone and Tinosorb M being among the best. It's just that the UVMune400 filter offers peak protection at around 380-400nm and that make it so sensational.

First of all: I really like your videos! Thank you for educating us ☺️ I'm from Germany and here in Europe the UV filters "benzophenone" are forbidden cause they are carcinogenic. The thing is: We also don't use "octocrylene" because they decompose into benzophenone. So I would not recommend buying SPFs that contain these filters 🙏🏻

Hi Dr Idriss, Love you & your channel! Are you familiar with the Purito scandal of 2020 where the their popular Centella Green Level Unscented Sun sunscreen “SPF 50+”, was shown to only provide SPF 19? I was wondering if this has impacted your, of any of your viewers’, trust in their sunscreens? The company’s response to the findings, was really blasé and left many of us afraid to purchase from this brand in particular, as well as the manufacturer of other K-beauty sunscreens (including Dear Klairs). I realize that some sunscreens sold in the US, have also been tested, and shown not to contain the SPF advertised, so it could happen anywhere and from a video I just watched by cosmetic chemist & You Tuber Lab Muffin, there are a number of reasons this could’ve happened so not sure if they were deceitful or just negligent, but the way the company responded really affected my faith in purchasing from them. Here’s an article about it, and the problem across the board on sunscreen testing, in case anyone is curious. nymag.com/strategist/2020/12/what-went-wrong-with-puritos-sunscreen.html

@@ScoobyDoosMomhere the ones from missha and scinic :) it's relatively easy to check cause octocrylene (as in these cases) are uv filters so it's one of the first ingredients if you google a product :) Of course Dr. Idriss is a medical professional and I am not! It's just what those experts in my country/ EU told us 🤷🏻‍♀️ I don't think it's worse to use these sunscreens instead of no sunscreen :) On the other hand it's just easy to buy one without these ingredients I think :)

Beauty of Joseon is one of my favorite sunscreens and I am so grateful to you for introducing it to us! It’s very lightweight, it disappears completely, does not make you shine and look oily and it is not comedogenic which has been an issue with almost all of the sunscreens I’ve ever tried. The only hiccup I’ve had with it was when I just began using it while taking accutane. My skin is very sensitive right now and it took me about a week of getting used to but now we’re friends and it is doing its job perfectly well.

The orange and blue “European” brand that the Scinic Sun stick looks similar to is actually the Shiseido clear sunscreen stick, which is another Japanese brand like Biore! Thanks again, Dr. Idriss, for shedding light on Asian sunscreens. Would love to explore other Asian brands since the Asian skincare game is so strong and reasonably priced.

Thank you for covering Korean sunscreen. For me as an avid J-beauty and K-beauty sunscreen, I see the main issue of them is that they have good coverage in the UVB spectrum, they are often doing just enough (PA four pluses = PPD 16), I rarely see any East Asian sunscreen with PPD higher than 20.

Nobody talks about the Round Lab birch juice one anymore 😥 James Welsh and Cassandra Bankson did once or twice about a year ago (which is why I tried it, ofc) but that's it... guys don't sleep on it it's the best! My normal skin needs a little extra hydration/moisture underneath in the winter, but it's just moisturizing enough in the summer, and leaves a very natural finish!

Other Asian brands also have a lot of fantastic SPF (Biore is actually a Japanese brand for example) pls do a ep2 for this series! I personally get my Asian SPF from Yamibuy I initially just use them for Asian snack but end up also getting Asian SPF from them lol but pls remember to filter for fulfilled by yami only. A few that I would recommend trying are: Elixir advanced day care from shiseido, decorté multifunction sunscreen, mistine aqua base ultra protection. So many L’Oréal brands like kiehls and lancome formulated the “same” sunscreen completely different and the Asian version is always so much better 😂

@@dmvfosterkittens It most likely has to do with the climate of each country. Japan is very humid so their skincare is more light-weight, while Korea is more dry so their skincare tends to be more moisturizing, which can be heavy on oilier skin.

Unfortunately this Skin Aqua one contains octinoxate as their first listed filter. An old style chemical filter which is readily absorbed by the body and has estrogenic effect. This filter also generates free radicals upon UV exposure, breaks down under the influence of light and is harmful to the environment. The BoJ sunscreen only has new and superior filters.

For Acne prone or oily combination skin, I highly recommend The Biore' UV Aqua Rich Essence (the other Biore' watery gel is a slightly different formulation- sometimes can have a subtle cast for medium/olive and deeper tones). Ive had the best response so far as its like a drink for combination oily/acne prone skin and dries down matt and leaves it super soft to the touch. The Tocobo Watery sun gel is also a pleasure & pleasant to wear as it dries down instantly - feeling weightless and leaves the skin matt and that sense of hydration but Im loving the Biore' after 8 hours of wear/.Comparing the Biore' and The Tocobo I tend to be less oily using the Biore' after a full day, and reapplying the Tocobo sun stick (The sunstick is a standout). While The Isntree Watery sun gel is also weightless, leaving the skin feeling fresh, breathable and matt. I would say its comparable to the Tocobo - both as enjoyable and pleasant to wear all day. Beauty of Joseon is slightly more emollient, and leaves my skintype a hint more dewy. even tho it does dries down. I find the glowy radiance to my skin is more obvious compared with the previous three brands. I enjoy this product too and find wearing it when the temperature drops and Im needing something more dewy this product excels. The matching sunstick is also another standout but this sunstick helps to matify the skin so in combination could do the trick. Im a fan of all four that Ive tried and have been using them on rotation for several months. Bravo for the Video Dr Idriss and thankyou for sharing the technical side of facts for these K-Beauty and Japanese sunscreens.

I love how you focused on PA++++ and when it comes to PA+++ you clearly mentioned that it has three pluses, not four pluses. Thank you for that. Also I always look for these filters in my sunscreen: Tinosorb S, Tinosorb M (though excess of this may cause white cast), Uvinol A Plus, Uvinol T 150. Thank you Doctor
@bluesash10
@bluesash10 Жыл бұрын
Why do you look for those ingredients specifically? I'm trying to find a better sunscreen. Thank you!
@knowledgehunter_
@knowledgehunter_ Жыл бұрын
@@bluesash10 below are the reasons: 1. *The most important reason is* these are new age chemical filters and most importantly these are photostable. These filters don't degrade under sun easily unlike other chemical filters or even zinc oxide which also starts to lose effectiveness after 2-3 hours and which is the reason we should apply sunscreen after every 2-3 hours. Though I guess we should reapply no matter what filter is there as sweat, oil etc changes the structure and may create some hollow place where sun rays may touch. 2. Along with UVB, these are extremely good for UVA protection and UVA causes aging. 3. They don't irritate eyes. 4. Obviously environment friendly and doesn't harm coral reefs. And yeah, just broad spectrum doesn't cover how much UVA protection I'm getting. So it's always best to go for PA rating. And when it comes to PA rating you should go for highest i.e. PA++++ There are many Sunscreens with SPF 50 and PA three pluses but unless and until four pluses are there, those companies won't get my money. Just for example (may sound stupid though) PA with two or three pluses are like spf 25 or 30. I know how much we tend towards SPF 50 or above if we are under the sun for maximum UVB protection. So why not go for maximum UVA protection when you are under the sun too and PA four pluses are best for that. Sorry as I wrote too many lines but hope you find this helpful. Thanks!

Not only is the fragrance cloying and thick, it also smells like the place old people go to die (I'm not young anymore, so I can make that joke). It's dreadful. I don't hate fragrance as a rule, but it was an immediate wash-off. However, I am a new convert to the Klaire's sunscreen. Top tier.
