I really appreciate you showing how KP appears on people of color. Most ppl, even doctors describe and show pics of only red raised bumps on white skin which makes it difficult to understand if it is even the same condition..kudos to you!

Exactly...I'm like if one more doctor describes it just as "red bumps" I'm going to scream. Like billions of people have tan and brown skin. The bumps can be white, red, or brown/black.

I have an extensive case of KP throughout my body. The dermatologist was amazed that it extended beyond the usual places. I was counseled that keeping the skin moisturized was the key to maintenance. If you have a bad case you can buy a high Urea content cream to begin moisturizing your skin at the beginning. For bathing/showers I use Cetaphil Body Wash for Eczema/Dry Skin. Before drying my skin with a bath towel I use a small amount of natural Almond Oil throughout my body. You can also use the Neutrogena Bath Oil or Shea Butter Oil. The key is to pat dry NOT rub down with the bath towel. Once I'm towel dry I slather on a rich body lotion for dry skin, the one never fails is the Nivea Essentially Enriched body lotion. Do this EVERY time you shower AND use some form of lotion during the day... you'll have the KP completely under control. All these products are inexpensive, no harsh perfume scents, & are easy to follow. I've been doing this for almost 17 yrs now. I now get complements on how soft my skin is. People are shocked when I tell them I have the chicken skin condition.

Hi Rosie! Thanks for these amazing tips. I'll try them for sure. I live in India, and the strange thing is that my condition gets worse in summers idk why, because at that due to frequent sweating, the skin remains moisturised throughout the day, but I still want to itch and scratch it more during summers. And just like you, i have it all over my body too, even on my face, chest, collar bone part, stomach and the usual arms and thighs :(
@rosiegomez5809
@rosiegomez5809 Жыл бұрын
@@pragyapandey24 I'm happy that the info can help. I'm not a dermatologist but I've studied this condition extensively. It sounds like your skin is dehydrated which is why it itches whether you sweat or if its cold/dry. If your local pharmacy sells prescription strength Urea topical cream without a doctor's prescription & its affordable buy it. Its a super charged cream made to moisturize skin. I suggest to use at night after showering but its up to every person when to use it. The key is that it will take time for your skin to absorb the moisturizers. The more the KP the more months you have to be patient. Another aspect is that you have to use moisturizer lotion every day. I can imagine its difficult to want to use body lotion during India's monsoon weather with it being so humid. 😬 Ask your local pharmacist or beauty cream sales rep to find body lotions that are usable during peak humid monsoon seasons. Find creams that are non-comedogenic for your face/neck which means it doesn't clog pores. In addition, inexpensive reputable sunblock/sunscreen body lotions that have moisturizers mixed in are a great way to use a daily body lotion for the sun exposed areas.

Do you shower every single day or is it better with this condition to shower every other day to not strip the skin? If you don’t shower you still apply lotion?

@@MK-dj5vz I would recommend opting for cold showers ! They aren't pleasant but the benefits of cold exposure, if you want to do some research, is extraordinary. Nr 1 reason: Warm water dries the skin out

I've lived my whole life with KP and was so self-conscious as a kid about it. I hated the appearance of my arms and back and would go out of my way to never wear sleeveless tops and backless/low cut dresses. Using AHA or salicylic acid (testing different products, not using at the same time) has helped minimize the appearance. Nothing has cured my KP, but at the end of the day, learning to love the skin I'm in over time has helped make a difference. Thank you for covering this often overlooked skin concern!

Not a dermatologist, just a nail polish addict, but are you using a cuticle oil and the correct sort of nail file? Oils need to be jojoba based - I just but huge bottles of it and chuck some Vitamin E oil in for good measure - and try a very fine-grit file, not the coarse emery boards or the metal ones we're used to. I find a glass file works best for me but some prefer a decent fine-grit card file. My mother has always had terribly split, peeling nails and they are infinitely better just from using a glass file - I just have her a cheap freebie one I had to try out, they work just as well. The combo of miniaturization that actually goes into the nail and a fine file that doesn't tear the layers can make a world of difference. Ofc, you may have tried them already but if not it's an easy place to start that will benefit anyway. Good luck.

Yes!! Arnica! It’s the only thing I found in the past that had an almost immediate effect! It didn’t get rid of it, I wasn’t using it in combination with a chemical exfoliant (which I will from now on) but it MASSIVELY helped with the appearance! I’ve got a CeraVe salicylic acid cleanser I use on my face anyway so now I’ll use that with the Arnica and a moisturiser and I’m now very hopeful that this will work! Thank you 😊

I have it on my face, neck, chest, arms, legs and butt. I’m now in my 30s and there’s no signs of it slowing down. Using exfoliants and retinol on my face and chest have helped, and the only thing I have found that really makes a difference everywhere else is consistently exfoliating 3x/week with lactic acid & keeping a tub of hydrating lotion in the shower - I slather it on before I get out. I’ve had it for so long that I don’t usually even think about it anymore, but I can completely understand the people who are self conscious. I am a teacher and often have kids asking me if I am cold because of all my bumps. 🤷‍♀️ Oh well, I work with what I’ve been given.

Thank you for the video. I've been working on my arms for a couple of weeks and for the first time in my life I have soft skin. It went down almost completely. I have more economic friendly approach, so to say, but I am following almost everything mentioned in this video. I started DIY coffee peelings, at the beginning every day (highly recommend for the whole body, used up coffee with some oil, I used olive oil or avocado, you can add up some water with glycerin), then I used a toner with BHA and moisturised the skin with a simple urea cream from the pharmacy (30% was supposed to be super moisturising and my skin was, indeed super plump). I love urea, it is a great humectant that in higher percentages acts as an exfoliant. I guess that is it, simple and super soothing for the body. As mentioned, moisturising is the key. Good luck with my chicken skin fellas, it's doable! And coffee scrub is amazing for all over the body, caffeine is energising on the skin and the whole process, apart from being messy, is extremely relaxing.

I have suffer from KP since I was a teenager and caused me not to use tank tops or any sleeveless blouse. I hate this thing with a PASSION and are incredibly grateful for this video. I always thought it was some sort of acne that comes and goes! Sooo misinformed!

Dr. Andrea Dray has utube on it. Generally sacylic is used. Face washes, creams and liquid leave on products like Paulas Choice 2% salycilic acid is good. She recommends many brands so give a listen

I dont know if you have acne but i went on accutane and ever since I dont have any sebaceous filaments anymore. I cant even squeeze anything out and mine used to be awful! Like pepper all over my nose. When my sister was one accutane they actually squeezed themselves out! It was quite wild to see.

This is probably a big no-no but I use floss. I wind it around my fingers and drag it against the bridge of my nose. (!!!) it removes a lot of the black spots without making my skin mad. I do it about twice a week

I've had really good luck with Eucerin Instensive Repair. Smells way better than Amlactin, but it makes you a greaseball for quite a bit. A smooth, moisturized greaseball.

Thank you so much for the informative guide. So many people have KP and it is difficult to manage. I have noticed if I am well hydrated that it helps tremendously. I also avoid foaming cleansers. I go for hydrating ones only. Anything with urea and lactic acid helps (Eucerin Advanced Repair has both of these ingredients.)

I'm so happy you've addressed this. The KP on my arms is finally calming down but my legs are terrible. I need to shave because I'm really hairy and that has worsen my condition, but I can't pay for laser hair removal treatment right now. So at least I can be proactive with my skin.

This video is super helpful! I've been struggling with KP on my arms ever since I finished accutane, my derm just said that it was normal for my dry skin now and that it would go away on its own, but it's been a year and it hasn't. So now at least I've got some pointers on how to help myself with this. Thank you so much!

Omg! That’s why I have it! I’m 41 and I just recently got KP over the last few months and I could not figure out why. I also just finished accutane. One month before it started.
