I think Claudia was genuinely startled when Bruce slammed his fist on the table.
@AuthorDodgeMerrin3 жыл бұрын
She might not have known it was coming. I know that the scene where Londo climbs on the table nobody but Peter and JMS knew he was going to do that, so all the reactions there are genuine. JMS and/or Bruce might have done the same thing here.

Sinclair had a great sibling-in-arms moment, where he managed to hypnotize her into falling. Then swapping to clean plates to make her think she'd slept through breakfast!

I have always hated how the powers that be in Hollywood never got Claudia other major roles to the point she fled to the UK initially and just did voice acting for a few years in disgust. I always enjoyed the attitude she put into this role and the others she has had in bits and pieces over the years.

This was the scene where the post Z'ha Dum changes in his personality became obvious. You couldn't imagine the character sitting alone in the mess, talking to himself, before Season 4. I think that the only character who understood Sheridan after Z'ha Dum was G'Kar. Both had been touched by Kosh, and had lost their attachment to their own mortality.

What I really love about how Claudia Christian plays Ivanova is those little manmerisms she displays when someone talks to her. The way she is reacting to what is being said. Others would just look at the speaker and maybe nod. She often also seems like she didn't read the script, or reacts as if she didn't. Or maybe she didn't because she seemed genuinely startled when Sheridan hit the table.

I'm really glad Claudia cajoled JMS out of his fixation on the 'stern, no-nonsense' XO that he really seemed insistent on. It was plainly clear with Takashima, and Ivanova for the first few episodes was also really pushed into the Cold Siberian stereotype.

That captures their relationship best. He was her first C.O., and she was his gifted protege. It was an interesting change from the Sinclair/Ivanova relationship which was friendly but professional. The "existing" personal friendship in S1 was Sinclair/Garibaldi. After that, it shifted to Sheridan/Ivanova. The one thing that is missing here is Ivanova questioning Sheridan about his ability to deal with the change in his responsibilities. He chafed at going from a ship's skipper to being commander/military governor of a space station. Ivanova was the first person to notice, and as XO she had the responsibility of looking after him as well as the station.

To me it always seemed like that Susan was interested in Sheridan, and they didn't act on it because of regulations. Susan didn't respond to the advances from Marcus, plus left the station after Sheridan's wedding (I know there were IRL reasons, but still fits). And there were all those scenes with great chemistry.
@AuthorDodgeMerrin3 жыл бұрын
That thought occurred to me as well, but when I more closely examined the dynamic between them their interactions didn't feel romantic at all. The way they talked and teased each other seems more like an older brother and younger sister to me.

If the relationship of deleen and Sheridan wasn't a thing (it was kinda forced by the show writers, the whole thing seemed an odd build up, considering that deleen was giving the flirty eyes to Sinclair before he left after season 1, only to be immediately replaced by Sheridan who filled the role of flirty eyes). Then Sheridan and ivanova would definitely have been a great couple.
