Condolences to his family. How sad. I've taken my eye off the road to look at something in my car and have almost crossed into the oncoming traffic before too, and it's a lesson to learn as it can happen in a split second. Very sad story.

A Semi has a harder time stopping & avoiding someone in their lane….. I pray for both families! That can have a major affect on someone! Same with trains…. they cants stop on a dime! It’s why the law warns people not to cut in front of them(Semi-trucks)too closely!!!! He probably fell asleep under the wheel or other!? He finished his work & left for home at 7am!?

I'm sure that truck driver has a dash cam and will show the cop was likely on his phone.. Remember copl across the country have a legal stipulation and are allowed to use their phones while driving even though the rest of us aren't. Doesn't make much sense because it's the distraction part that is the same for all humans. I see cops on their phones all the time when driving..

By the evidence left on the road, i.e, skid marks, debris, how the vehicle was hit, etc. When the road is closed down before they send the ME and clean up crew, photos are taken along with measurements, they spray paint down as well and they can use all of the info to tell who was at fault. That info is definitely needed if an insurance claim is being filed as well.
