@@SherpasDay We had a very scary moment a few years back while Dog sledding with our dogs. A big GSD came running at us out of a yard, and was off leash. We were on the multi use trail with 3 of our dogs attached to a sled, and this massive dog came at us. This was when Shelby was still around, and I just started yelling to her to Hike and Trail to try to get her moving. I had nothing. . . no mace . . nothing to stop this dog from coming at us. Thankfully, Shelby must have known what I was saying, because she listened so well. After what felt like forever, the dog finally turned around . We have never returned to that trail.

You walked out of their territory. My horse has disliked 2 people. She would not let me anywhere near either one of them. She blocks me in the corral. My dog and horse never got along. Both overly protective of me. I had to put my dog down on Thursday. She was 18. Still have my horse. But my heart and house are empty. With Melody, I tell people to get off her paths if she runs and get out of her "house" territory. She was abused before I took her. When she used to come at me In the beginning I had to stand my ground and prove trust. Scared the crap out of me, but with her respect we couldn't be closer. Same with my puppy. Will miss her forever, a house without a dog is not a home. Friday was the first day since I built the house, I've been without a dog. I had all my blankets in the morning, it was strange. Sorry for rambling. Thank you for protecting Sherpa. Looking bigger works with bears,I guess it works with horses too. It's a "coyote" thing here in the states. The horse sees Sherp as a preditor.
@luashelton93204 жыл бұрын
Justin we've got a resurgence of coyotes in rural North Carolina. When I'm the last dump truck driver back to the shop some nights the coyotes start howling closeby, about 15 minutes after the hear engine off. I'm slow to do post trip inspection compared to other drivers. The sound is chilling !I hustle to my car .Eventually they do stalk people if pack populations get too large.

@@luashelton9320 I drove local for a major trucking company in Indianapolis years ago and I was the last truck in so the shop was closed, no one around and I had to pee! So I parked my tractor in front of two trailers that were parked to block the view from the street and I went and peed. Headed back to the truck, climbed up and right in front of my truck was a lone coyote looking up at me!!! Needless to say, I never did that again!! Lol! Ahhhh, the stories us drivers could tell!! Couple that with a whistle around his neck. It can also be used to let others human or animal know that someone is there even with a bit of wind it gets loud enough.

No, you can traumatize animals with that. You do not need to hurt the horses.

I would ask the mechanic to put a tarp or something over the motor . When you first showed the motor I saw watter dripping into far right manifold hole where the stud broke off. If water keeps dripping into the hole it will rust the cylinder walls if it hasn't started already. It could cause your motor major problems like motor replacement. Just looking out for you and sherpa

Very good point you also would need to vacuum the water out. Outside chance but hopefully none of the rings were worn to allow water to get into the oil. The only time I've ever seen vehicles like that is in areas that get almost no rain or perfectly sunny calm days.

If you can get it in England there's a spray repellant that uses a strong citronella scent to distract and deter animals. Not pepper spray. It's called PetSafe Spray Shield Animal Deterrent spray. I use it when dealing with aggressive animals on the job. Also stops other dogs from attacking. And always be talking loud to them and facing the horses when walking away. Slowly.

I’ve just watched this video and know what also happened to Sherpa at a later date too. Holy cow. I’ve been chased by wild horses before and it was one of the scariest moments of my life. It sounds like you handled that situation really well. You sounded very brave and wonderfully protective in a crazy scary situation. Well done Jamie.

A quick lesson in horse language: Ears pinned flat against the head means get out of the way ( left or right of the horse’s path) and call Batdog. Ears perked ears means something got their attention. One ear perked and the other to the side means they’re relaxed. So pay attention to the horse’s ears next time. You don’t have to carry anything special.

Do you feel this way? For me, the best smell in the world -- next to when my son was still a baby fresh out of a bath and in jammies clean out of the dryer -- is the smell of a horse. There is nothing else like it in the world. I love to stand in front of a horse and press my forehead against theirs -- it's like some kind of ancient communication.
